morning with the latest challenge on the fight against the coronavirus outbreak. a variant first detected in south africa is now here in the u.s. it's infected at least two people in different parts of south carolina. and this strain could cous and more resistant to some vaccines. debra alfarone is in washington. what else do we know about this dangerous mutation? >> reporter: we know that the existing vaccines don't work as well with this new strain to fight it. that's why moderna and pfizer are both working hard to find new ways to fight this strain. a dangerous new coronavirus strain has turned up in the united states, infecting two patients in different parts of south carolina. >> there is no known travel history and no known connection between the cases. >> reporter: this variant was initially detected in south africa. it's believed to be more contagious and possibly more resistant to vaccines. >> the more uncontrolled spread

helped shares of gamestop rise nearly 2,000%. the strategy created big losses for hedge funds who bet that the gaming retailer would collapse. shares dropped 44% yesterday after robin hood restricted buying gamestop shares. the move triggered a class-action lawsuit and outrage fom investors and lawmakers. >> i think robin hood's actions today were extremely unusual which is why they are attracting 's a vy boecision to make >> the u.s. house financial services and senate banking committees said that they will hold hearings on the state of the stock market following robin hood's temporary decision to put limits on buying stock. hollywood has lost a legend. award-winning actress cicely tyson died yesterday at the age of 96. her death comes just two days

constitution" says six workers at a georgia poultry plant were killed after a liquid nitrogen look at the foundation food group plant in gainesville. 11 people were taken to the hospital. at least three in critical. the company says it appears a nitrogen line ruptured. liquid nitrogen is used for refrigeration. the leak sent workers running from the building. >> i was moving this morning and all of a sudden i seen everybody just come rushing out. and i pulled up here and parked and started watching. there was two or three people fell out on the ground. >> the cause of the leak is under investigation. the "tampa bay times reports that people visiting tampa's popular outdoor destinations during upcoming super bowl events will have to an masks. executive order requiring masks to be worn in parts of downtown surrounding raymond james stadium and in other tourist hot spots. those caught not wearing a mask can be fined up to $500.

million. a record for the renaissance painter. the portrait called "young man holding a rondel" was bout yesterday during a virtual auction at sotheby's in new york. it is one of only about a dozen botticelli portraits known to exist. >> there are a number of artists that i think we all can say that are -- they're olympian really in their genius. and botticelli's one of those. >> the last time the painting was up for auction was in 1982. it sold for just over $1 million. and if you missed the tv series "game of thrones," you are going to like this news. it's reported that an animated version of the emmy word-winning show is being developed by hbo-max. it's aimed at adult audiences, though.
