plays out, headlines, the first one talks about that small chance of north bay showers today and tomorrow. bay area-wide rain returns monday and it will be windy on monday as. we another good system coming our way to start off this next week. the cloudy out there this morning. those clouds have helped to keep the temperatures relatively warm. if we look at the current numbers right now as we check out the scene over the tri- valley. a lot of places here in the upper 40s. mid-40s if you are inland, san jose, santa rosa. we are going to warm up into the mid- and upper 50s today for highs today. santa clara county's brush with death in an ambush attack on a checker country road may never have happened. deputy sukhdeep gill is charged

with making the whole thing up and filing a false police report. >> why would you concoct a story that good detectives are going to unravel. >> reporter: nearly one year ago, deputy gill made this frantic call over his police other. >> shots fired, shots fired. >> reporter: deputy gill's miraculous survival story involved his body camera stopping a bullet through the chest as he stood on a dark rural road in morgan hill. at the time, investigators vowed to find the suspect. >> it was an unprovoked attack. >> reporter: investigators say the suspect turned out to be deputy gill himself. >> the fact weren't adding up. >> reporter: da investigators say the evidence including ballistics didn't match the deputy's account. no other details were release giant food any time we have an instance like this that hurts our reputation an our trust with the community, it is tough and we are disappointed. >> reporter: i'm assuming you

santa clara county is extending its zero bail policy in an effort to keep populations low and limit covid- 19 transmissions. the superior court bench extend the plan through at least the end of june. this means that bail for all misdemeanor and felony offenses must be set at zero dollars except for the most serious crimes. judges will have the ultimate discretion on whether or not to is set bail in each case. taking a live look out to the white house. the biden administering has issued a new mask mandate for all public transit in the u.s. the cdc unveiling the order last night and taking effect on monday night. the mandate means that everybody must wear a mask at train and subway stations as well as in bus terminals an and airports. masks are required while traveling, disembarking or embarking on any conveyance within the united states. there is a new time line for children to get vaccinated

you why i would say it will have to try real hard to do that. look at the storms sitting out there. you no, watch what happens. we'll come in for a close-up, play this all the way through today. not much has happened. we'll go all the way through sunday and that storm is just like in a holding pattern. just sits out there until monument then on monday afternoon, the shower will come back in across the entire bay area. but before monday, there is still the opportunity for us to see some rain here in the north bay particularly sonoma county. so this is tomorrow morning. we'll see a few light showers and then into the late morning. and then it gets pushed back out to sea. if we look at the rainfall total, keep in mind the majority of this falls on sunday. we pick up about a tenth of a inof rain. a little bit less farther south than that. that is it for the weekend inform you want to find rain, you got to be up there. all right. now, let's take a look ahead to the bigger picture and that

monday rain and there it is right there. showers wash across the entire bay area throughout the day on monday and into tuesday. it will rain both days. monday will be the more impressive of the two. we'll keep a chance of showers just hanging around throughout the day on tuesday. we pick up about half inch of rain and it will get windy on monday. watch what happens. monday late morning, monday into the early evening, those are strong south winds gusting to 30. this won't be anything like the wind events we've seen over last week and a half. but still, it will be windy on monday. and yes, this storm will deliver more snow to the sierra. it was nice to see six to eight feet of snow in most places. some maces got as much as 10 feet of snow. we can use more. we are still only at about 60 to 70% of average for snowfall in the sierra. even after the huge four-day period with lots of snow. so in the seven-day forecast,

you see we've got rain on there for monday and tuesday. bay area-wide, let's in the fur get we have a few light showers that will move across the north bay for mainly sunday. it could get a light shower today up in sonoma county but it wouldn't be much. and after we finish on tuesday, we'll be done. and we'll get right back into sunshine and the daytime highs will warm right back up into the low 60s. so you with another look at all this coming up in the next half hour. emily, back over to you. happening thank you, chefs in downtown san jose are offering takeout meals to help the needy. the goal is to help hundreds of people would have lost their jobs including furloughed restaurant workers. each meal foals $25. every time someone maces an order, the chefs will cook two meals, one for the customer and one for a donation. orders are made on the chef's market website and pickups are on south second street. that happens today and tomorrow between 11:00 and 6:00.

welcome back. thank you for joining us. i'm emily turner. let's start with half hour with a check of our weather. >> got a nice warm start out there this morning. a lot of clouds over much of the bay area. so the temperatures have stayed in the mid- and upper 40s. there are a couple of issues coming our way with rain. the first one gets here as we get to tomorrow. actually even today, there is a chance for a few light showers minister north bay today. but it wouldn't amount to much. it is really more likely tomorrow that happens again exclusively in the north bay. it is not until monday when the rain arrives for everybody. we'll get widespread rain through here again to start the week and it will be windy with that system as that rain comes in as well. look at that beautiful deck of

newly released body camera video is giving us a new look at the chaos during the seige on the capitol. >> the footage was taken from a capitol police officer's body camera video as trump supporters mobbed the capitol. it was shown at a hearing yesterday for a u.s. marine veteran in michigan who is accused of salting officers with a hockey stick. investigators say a napa bids owner accused of possessing pipe bombs may have been targeting governor gavin newsom. fbi agents say they found dozens of illegal guns, explosives and pipe bombs at the home and business of ian rogers. the 44-year-old who you see here has ties to right wing extremist groups. an fbi agent testified they found text messages on rogers' phone indicating he planned to attack the governor and move on to the offices of facebook and twitter. according to the napa valley register, rogers' defense

attorney insists he never intended to carry out the threats. ikea is now requiring customers to sign a waiver before buying certain items. according to the swedish retailer, u.s. customers must be told on attach the dress is to the wall and must accept the risk before they can buy the items. move comes after ikea recalled millions of dresser which were prone to tipping over. some parent and children in the east bay are calling on the governor to reopen youth sports. they held this rally in san ramon yesterday only. student athletes say they're done sitting on the sidelines and it is not just their fitness and athletic skills at stake. several parents we spoke to say they're concerned a pause in youth sports is affecting children's mental health as well. >> not being able to go on a run and have fun with my teammates, not being able to go compete with other people in different schools is hard.

we've already collected over 600 laptops and tablets and we've had some even mailed in from santa rosa and we had somebody who donated 50 laptops at a single time. so it will make such a huge difference to so many people. i know when we announced that we were doing this laptop donation drive, we had families reach out to us as soon as they learned about it because they wanted to know how they can get access to one of these devices. so right now, with the library offering free hot spots for checkouts and we're also looking for other ways to get people connected, one of the big things is that they still need a device. we are hoping that this donation drive going to help. >> so useful. is there a specific type of a laptop or tablet that you prefer to get? >> yeah. so it would be windows operated laptops or tablets. so we just can't repurpose the apple devices but if it is windows operated, we invite

people to donate those to us if they have a tablet or laptop they are just not using. the hp will refresh it and give them back to us. if you want to help bridge the digital divide by donating a laptop, you can go to any san jose public library and drop off your donation. remember, they are only accepting those with windows operating systems. stormwatch this morning, an unusual scene in southern california. hail at manhattan beach. same system that dumped rain on the bay area is actually responsible for the hail and widespread flooding to our south. this week, tahoe was buried if the biggest snowstorm of the season so far. some see resorts across the sierra nevada are reporting more than six feet of snow. as molly ginter reports, one family's home got snowed in. >> we have more to do. let me show you this door now.

i don't know how to show on zoom. but can you see that? >> reporter: still up her neck in snow, mary and her family have spent hours digging out. they come up to the cabin in tahoe city every year but this year they got quite a surprise. >> we woke up in the morning, it was a complete cave. every single window was completely just covered with snow. >> i was a bit worried. i was worried we wouldn't able to get out the door but it was a bit lower by the door luckily. i thought it was kind of cool. i felt like we were enclosed may snow cave. >> you get a little bit excited when you see something different but i was nervous too. i felt a little claustrophobic and it made me worry about the heating event possibly being clogged. i knew i wanted to start shoveling. >> lucky for mary, her kid got to work. >> it took me like 45 minutes to shovel out the car. i tried to shovel out the deck and it looks like i barely did

get in on the act. widespread bay area-wide rain on monday. let's see how this all plays out. can you see high-def doppler is on. it has some green to but you got to get way up north to find it. now you see our opportunity for rain. watch what happens with this thing. just play this all the way into sunday. the still off coast. watch all day sunday. it is just held off the coast. it is like it just hits a holding pattern. and then by monday, the showers finanally get hehere for everyb but befofore we get to that monday rain for everybody, there are a few showers that will manage to sneak in for just the north bay today and tomorrow. here is a good example. that is sunday morning. a few light showers up in sonoma county through the late morning. and then things get pulled back off the coast late sunday as the system gets ready to get in here with rain for everybody on monday. but if we look at how much rain we could see in just the north bay for today an tomorrow, it is not much.

maybe a tenth of an inch of rain. let's jump ahead now. this is late sunday night into monday and here comes the rain. now right there, through the afternoon and evening, we see widespread showers bay area- wide that will linger into tuesday. not only a monday rainmaker. it is monday and tuesday. and when you look at the grand total for both days, we pick up 1/2 inch of rain from that and it will get windy on the leading edge of t look at those gusts monday afternoon and evening. 40miles an hour gust half moon bay. 24miles an hour gusts in fremont. strong southling winds on monday as the system comes in. and now the snow item. if we watch the accumulation for snow on there, that appear not bad for two days. we pick up close to two feet of snow up at donner pass. it doesn't sound like much now considering all of the snow we just got. even with the huge snow makes are we just saw, we are still

experience the joy of music. >> reporter: they volunteered since 2017 at music mission san francisco, a mission district nonprofit that puts together a free youth orchestra for dozens of students aged seven to 15. cohigh pressure founder margaret gonzalez says the guerreros have inspired their students. >> it is wonderful to have them. they do it from their heart because they love it. >> cleo, a lowell high senior, plays the harp, piano and violin. neil, a harvard university sophomore plays piano and viola. margaret as you the siblings are role models. >> they have such a spark in them that it is hard to find. >> we are going to do a problem. >> neil and cleo also tutor in academe i gos. cleo start a free program over two years ago now meeting over doom. the pair assists underserved student with homework and gets them excited about learning. students like this 11th grader who improved several gaze to

but what about something a bit more on the wild side? one eldorado county wildlife rescue is recruiting stay at homework toes give wildlife a second chance. last year, sierra wildlife rescue volunteers helped 1300 animals. everything from song birds to fawns, coyotes, and even skunks which i think takes a brave soul. volunteers can care for all of these wild animals in their homes until they are ready to be released back into the wild. >> gives us a pretty rare chance to be that close to wildlife. it just takes love, attention and care. it is kind of like feeding a teenager. you just got to make sure the room is clean and they get their meals and they don't do anything stupid. groundhog day is going virtual. punxsutawney phil is still expected to make an appearance on tuesday in pennsylvania. however, no crowd will be on hand for the traditional celebration at gobblers knob. instead, the local groundhog club will host virtual events

it is a time for a look at this morning's top stories. a new mask mandate is about to begin for all form of public trance ate cross the country. the cdc now says everyone must wear a mask while boarding, disembarking and traveling and at all train stations an airline terminals. the new rule begins on monday night. there a new time line for kids to get vaccinated. dr.anthony fauci says trials on children will happen over the next couple of months. he hopes that all kids under 16 can be vaccinately late spring. a santa clara county sheriff's deputy is under arrest for filing a false report. he said he was ambushed and that a body camera stopped a bullet. but da investigators say the evidence including ballistics do not match his account. a zero bail policy is being extended in santa clara county to keep jail population is low
