anne-marie green. of course we begin with what america iskiut - bueers rted thnsasch it's their first championship in 18 years and second overall. quarterback tom brady led the way throwing for 201 yards and three touchdowns. he was named super bowl mvp. this is his seventh title, cementing his legacy as arguably the greatest quarterback of all time. after the game, brady said that he is proud of the team. >> you know, really all year we believed in ourselves. our coaches believed in us. we believe in ourselves. and again, we were going up against a great team tonight. just happy we got the job done. >> skyler henry is in tampa. you know, like -- every time after every big win like this for tom brady, the question always comes up -- is this it, is he going to retire, is he going to be here next year, was this his last game?

reopen. president biden pledged to reopen schools within the first 100 days as president, and health officials in south africa say they're pausing the country's rollout of astrazeneca's vaccine after a study showed it did little to protect from the covid variant first detected there. this morning we are remembering former secretary of state george shultz. he died saturday at his home on the campus of stanford university. shultz played a central role in helping to end the cold war when he served as president reagan's chief diplomat from 1982 to 1989. prior to that he served in three cabinet-level posts in the nixon administration. george shultz was 100 years old. coming up, a skier in alaska is airlifted to safety after being attacked by a bear. and blinding lights. the weeknd dazzles the crowd at the super bowl halftime show. this is the "cbs morning news." making every moment in the morning brighter. tropicana sip your sunshine. a dramatic rescue in alaska after a back-country skier was mauled by a bear. video from saturday shows coast guard crew members being lowered from a jayhawk helicopter in the snowy terrain below. they hauled up the injured skier in the chopper. the man reportedly suffered injuries to his head and hands but was talking and responsive during the rescue. a female referee has made history at the super bowl, and there was a deadly avalanche. those are some of the headlines on the "morning newsstand." "the salt lake tribune" reports that crews recovered the bodies of four utah skiers killed in an avalanche. the skiers, all in their 20s and from the salt lake city area were buried in the snow when the avalanche hit. they were in separate groups. four others were also buried in the avalanche but dug themselves out. >> it was a beautiful day.

absolutely beautiful day. sun was shining. pretty warm out. and i'm sure that's what these people were out just enjoying the sunshine and the beautiful weather and thought they'd go for a great ski and have it ended in a tragedy like this. >> authorities say they were not able to recover the bodies until yesterday due to the snowy conditions. experts say that dangerous avalanche conditions in the area will persist. the "associated press" reports treasury secretary janet yellen said president biden's relief plan could restore full employment to the country by next year. the first woman ever to lead the treasury department said the country is still in a deep hole with millions of lost jobs. republicans say the proposal is too expensive. they cited criticism from former treasury secretary under president clinton, larry somers. somers said the plan could trigger runaway inflation. and "the san jose mercury news" says sarah thompson made

2.5 hours. the research found people working from home are potentially taking shorter lunch breaks. there's even data to suggest more people are working holidays. on thanksgiving, the company noticed a 41% increase in traffic on businesses on line servers. a pay incentive for kroger employees. the grocery chain will pay workers $100 if they get a covid-19 shot. the cincinnati-headquartered supermarket chain said the cash would be given to all associates who receive the full manufacturer recommended doses of the vaccine. kroger said workers who can't get the vaccine due to medical or religious reasons can also get the extra $100 if they complete a health and safety course. and now people can own a cool souvenir. the weeknd and the nfl are -- the weeknd and the nfl are selling t-shirts, hoodies, and jackets. it features a skeleton wearing facial bandages mimicking those
