good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, we're going to begin with a powerful winter storm affecting at least 160 million people across the country. arctic air is blasting through the u.s., already putting the midwest and the southwest in a deep freeze. overnight duluth, minnesota, felt like negative 42 degrees with the windchill. and chicago, it felt like negative 16, and negative 17 in dallas. last night president biden approved at emergency declaration for the state of texas to provide federal aid. all 254 counties there are under a winter storm warning. in oklahoma city, the nasty weather caused a crash involving two semi trucks. several people were taken to the hospital. mireya villarreal reports on the brutal winter weather. >> reporter: a massive snowstorm leaves tens of without power. strong winds and heavy snow targeting the pacific northwest first. >> it's been tough.

we have no gas. we're all electric at our house. so heat in the house has been the biggest issue. >> reporter: in washington, a massive pileup shut down the westbound lanes of i-90 on saturday for hours. officials blaming treacherous road conditions for this big-rig fire in oklahoma city where roads are covered with snow. kate collins is heading north with 80,000 pounds behind her. >> my biggest concern i think on the road was inexperienced drivers going very, very slowly on the freeway and then swerving a lot because they don't know where the lines are. >> yeah! >> reporter: but many are heeding the warning and staying home, making the most of this winter wonderland. for the first time in texas, all 254 counties are under a winter storm warning. the temperature in dallas already colder than in anchorage, alaska. >> right now we have two major weather systems coming together across the country. a very strong storm track right here. some of the coldest air on earth, the polar vortex, forcing

wished that lawmakers be intimid intimidated. even after he knew violence was taking place, he continued to basically sanction the mob being there. >> reporter: with the trial now history, lawmakers plan to tackle covid relief once they return here to the capitol from recess. president biden has said he is willing to compromise on who gets $1,400 stimulus checks based on income. he may have to separately pursue a $15 minimum wage in stages. vermont senator bernie sanders wants the hike included. >> we've got to raise the rage to a living wage of $15 an hour. that's what the american people want. that's what i intend to do. >> reporter: house democrats are working to push through president biden's nearly $2 trillion plan while some republicans want to cut the cost by about two-thirds.

on friday, the dow gained 27 points. the nasdaq added 69 points, and the s&p 500 was up 18. amazon is suing new york's attorney general over covid-19 demands. the company argues letitia james exceeded her authority in seeking to penalize amazon over its covid safety protocols and the firing of one of its outspoken workers. in a complaint filed friday, amazon says james threatened to sue if amazon didn't agree to her list of demands, including rehiring the worker and paying him large sums of cash. james calls the lawsuit a sad attempt at distracting from its safety record. starting today, more people will be able to hit the slot machines in las vegas. nevada's governor says he's rolling back covid restrictions in phases. in november, capacity was capped at 25% at venues. that will jump to 35% today at

today marks ten years since larry the cat moved into 10 downing street. the official home of the british prime minister. larry was brought in a decade ago to clean up a rodent infestation. he now makes himself very much at home there. a government website says larry spends his days greeting guests, inspecting security, and testing antique furniture for napping quality. nasa's latest mars rover is expected to land on the red planet on thursday. the "perseverance" rover began its 300 million mile journey to mars when it blasted off from cape canaveral last july. the six-wheeled rover will search for ancient microscopic life and collect rocks that will be returned to earth in about a decade. and tennis star naomi osaka is proving to be popular with more than just tennis fans. >> flying around her. there it is. a fan yells out -- there's a butterfly on your legs. and naomi osaka's going to take it to safety.
