period of time. there are a knew stragglers, mainly in the north bay. as we look out live from our camera, no rain here for the east bay, none down here. that's a live look down in san jose where we did get measurable rain. we got about a 1/100ths of an inch. there was about another tenth of an inch that fell from a separate system but i'm just focusing on the last 12 hours. if you're getting ready to step outside, it's relatively warm because of all the cloud cover but it will breezy today. once the sun comes up it will feel a bit cool thanks to a wind chill factor. >> i'll be back with what comes next in the complete forecast. for now emily, back to you.

to get teachers vaccinated. the governor said they will set aside vaccines for educators starting next month. that's about 75,000 doses starting on march 1st. this weekend for the first time residents 65 and older can drop in to get vaccinated. it runs through tuesday at building 30 on petrero avenue. in oakland, vaccinations are available today and tomorrow at the native-american health center on international boulevard. anyone covered in phase 1a and 1b are eligible. they can provide up to 250 vaccinations each day but an appointment is required. to get more information, just head to our website kpix.com/vaccine.

on the road to recovery. the trivalley restaurant industry is using a new tactic to bounce back. dozens of restaurants are joining the safety trivalley and offering special deals. the promotion runs through the end of the month. last night in pleasanton many outdoor tables were filled out as diners came out. more than 40 restaurants from danville to pleasanton are taking part in the taste trivalley's you recall pull event. the goal is to survive the pandemic, including local businesses which are really hurting the most. >> the restaurants really needed to have something to boost us. some of these restaurants aren't making it. we said we will not let that happen in the tri-valley. >> it's no secret sales are down. >> the more you taste, the higher your chance of wenning a

after this week's devastating storm there's a new crisis. half the population is suffering from a water problem. >> there was no warning. there was no warning of, hey, our whole infrastructure might collapse in the next couple of days. >> for exactly one week nathan and his girlfriend who live in austin have done without hot water. they lost water completely on wednesday, forcing them and so many other to gather snow to boil for water. then they lost power. >> which is kind of funny because we had heard on the news that they were restoring power and we lost power today

>> reporter: for one week nathan and their neighbors haven't been able to leave their home because of icy roads >> you can't drive on the roads. nothing is being delivered. if you get to the store they're out of water and food >> reporter: thousands of miles from texas, she's doe stating $1 for each one served. her family lives without water. >> it's hard to tell if you don't live there you had bad it is, just basing it on the news. it's definitely worrying and stressful >> reporter: nathan said the first day there was some sun. so he seized the opportunity to drive out of state for a hotel for food and finally some heat and hot water. >> i mean, it's ral complete disaster. we'll have our first showers in the last i have no days.

the most frustrating part is the state leaders >> reporter: reporting for kpix. >> . it rained. unless you were up at the right time, you missed it. it moved across the entire bay area. so we picked up about 16/100ths of an inch of rain. it was a weak cold front and was able to bring rain down into the the area. we got measurable rain out of it. now we could get a let lit more. you can see a few showers, the stragglers just hanging on in the north bay but they're falling apart and light snow falling in the sierra but that wouldn't amount to too much

either. we only got a few inches. here we are seeing light fill the sky. sunrise is coming up. you can see the leftover clouds. it will feel a bit cool today. not because of what the thermometer is saying, at least in the morning the numbers in the low and mid-40s are relatively warm if you're up early on saturday morning. typically, we'll see numbers into the mid-30s this time of the day but all the clouds allow the temperatures to stay in the mid to upper 40s. what will make this feel cold is the winds. winds sustained in the teens aren't all that bad it's the occasional gust. watch out. the screen gets brighter. anywhere that's shaded in the bands of red, that's where we can see gusts in the 20s. the futurecast, it stays that way, pretty much all the way through late morning until we

get into late afternoon. then by 3, 4:00 in the afternoon, the winds should get a little bit better and it will feel better. low 60s for daytime highs today. it will come in pretty much right where they should be for this team of the year. all in all those two things it makes for a nice day. new off the next seven days we're going to get noticeable warmer from here f it's low 60s today, take a look at tuesday. 72 for the daytime high. we'll go ten degrees from what today's numbers are. we don't stay there long but warm up to 72 degrees by early next week. this will be a very sunny and rain free week. new the concern is not just the next seven days as we look at the long-term forecast, there's not a lot of hope for that. we'll take a look at this

live, from the cbs bay area, this is kpix 5 news. >> thank you for joining us. i'm emily turner. let's start with darren peck. still some clouds out there. >> clouds and rain. we got that pulled up first just to last the last few hours of the showers kind of dissolving. if you missed the rain, it wasn't much. i will show you the totals. we're already seeing breaks in the clouds. that's a live look from the top of the sales force tower looking off toward the east over the bay bridge. how did we do with rain? we picked up about 17/100ths of

an inch. the second system fell in yesterday. it was night to see rain get down into the southbound. it will feel better temperature wise. that doesn't mean this will stay warm when you step outside. the current numbers are in the upper 40s to lower 50s. that's good on the thermometer. that's mainly because the clouds help keep us relatively warm. it's the wind that will make us feel cooler. when we check back in, we'll talk about a wind chill factor and noticeable warmup. emily, back over to you. now to some breaking news, shopping police are investigating two separate shootings overnight. one of them happened hard 1:45 a.m. at west alma avenue at the agave sports bar and grill. in the video you can see two wounded women being put no ambulances and officers held several men against the wall as they examined evidence at the

scene. san jose police are also reporting a separate shooting, this one at around 1:30 this morning leaving an adult with life-threatening injuries. crime scene tape blocked off a portion of cocoa way on story way on the east side of town. young athletes are celebrating a major win. state officials gave the green light for the return of school sports like football. students on the high school team held a conditioning session yesterday but they will have to wait long tore actually play games. the new guidelines ally to those with low coronavirus cases which includes most of the bay area. for a look at most of the guidelines, check out our sports stories on kpix.com. taking a live look at the white house now, president biden toured a coronavirus vaccine plant on friday as severe weather delayed millions of doses from being shipped.

natalie brand has the latest from washington >> reporter: as he toured a pfizer manufacturing plant in michigan producing covid-19, president biden said despite progress, new challenges have surfaced. >> in a knew days we'll cross 500,000 americans who have died from covid-19. i can't give you a date when this crisis will end but i can tell you we're e doing g everer possssible to have that day co sooner rather than later >> reporter: that includes ramping up vaccine production. pfizer said they will be able to increase the number of doses saying it's on track to reach 200 million doses by the end of the may. president biden worked to ensure those who are hesitant while areas are facing canceled

trading one crisis for another. power has been prestored but there is a shortage of clean drinking water. about 7 million texans are under orders to boil their water before they drink it if they have tap water at all. in fact one town in north texas is urging homeowners to call for help to shut off the water to leaking pipes. >> we want to control the meter boxes. instead of one house having no water, we have a whole street without water and a larger repair. >> public works officials are concerned that frozen and busted pipes are beginning to thaw. a driver crashed into this water hydrant in tarzana in los angeles. it caused a huge mess. the water spilled out on to the

neighbors in one orange county community are coming together to help out a family. it happened when teens in the area began harassing a new asian american family who moved in. >> reporter: you're looking at people running up to the home pounding on the door, at times flashing lights at the camera so they can't be identified and

running off. one left a pornographic print. some threw rocks and hurled racial insults. >> the sheriff come here seven times >> reporter: detectives stepped up patrols and told them to install cameras and a the only thing that stopped, neighbors, setting up guards in shifts so he and his wife can sleep.. this neighbor spread the word on the community facebook page. >> the reaction we received from the community is unlike anything else >> reporter: every night neighbors sign up to guard their home. >> they come this way. they see us and they turn around. will this make them stop forever? probably not but at least the family can have some peace. >> as you can see from the

that came through. and as we take a look at doppler, there's nothing going on there, maybe a few showers that di involves a they work across the bay. we can't rule out the chance that you might get a light shower over the next two to three hours from the straggler of the system but it won't add up to a whole lot. 40 in santa rosa. at left it's not 34, which it uld coeasily have been. oakland is 52. the winds will make it feel cooler. wind speeds, they're sustained about 15 they're gusting higher than that, no the 20s. when we put it into futurecast and watch the gusts stay that way, then the winds will start to come down a bit. that will make it feel better. when we hit the afternoon highs

and go into the low 60s you won't have too much of a wind chill factor but will have to factor in. vallejo will top out at 62. san ramone at 69. we'll go to 61 in san leandro. santa rosa going to 62 and numbers in the far north go to the low 60s. watch what happens with the rain between now and early march. i will let that play all the way through. there's march 2nd. this is taking us out 12 days from now. you can see where the focus of the rain will continue. this follows up on the trend for most of the winter so far. we got one good one mental was in late january we we had the atmosphere with the heavy rain

and strong wind this was good in terms of helping us make up for rainfall deficits. there were other things. here's the seven-day forecast. we know this will not be raining here, but the temperatures are also part of this story and there is a nice warmup coming our way. daytime highs will climb into the 70s. we'll get a short bulls really, monday and tuesday where the temperatures will spike. it will feel like spring and then we'll start to cool down a bet after we get to the middle part of next week. >> i know we need the rain but it's hard to get mad with the forecast. >> daytime highs will be climbing. it's easy to forget about the rainfall deficit. >> that is perfect california

the project urban park cleanup after encountering a child living in a van eye saw the conditions of the streets around me >> reporter: and vincent recalled what it was like to be homeless. >> i would sleep literally in the middle of the sidewalk for safety and people would step over me >> reporter: so he began cleaning homeless encampments. the homeless, like scott appreciate it. >> i appreciate it. >> they know that you're coming with care and compassion and you want help them >> reporter: he's reaching out the same way someone helped him get on their neat. >> everyone is looking for basically the same thing, someone who cares

the streets of this bay area neighborhood used to look a whole lot different and then the black population started vanish. enter a super bowl champion who is tackling a new mission, a former 49ers who wants to help connect and feed a small fraction of those who need it. this morning we continue to look at race in the bay area through the lens of those who make a difference. >> once this covid hit, i knew i had to do something

>> reporter: the filmore district. >> zucchini >> reporter: so was this 65 6'1" and 175 pounds leader, dennis brown. >> we're here in filmore and there's a strong african- american community here >> reporter: if the name dennis brown sounds familiar, what he did making plays for the 49ers for seven seasons might jar your memory what draws him now? >> i grew up with food insecurity. i was homeless as a child, homeless as an adult. being part of the san francisco- marin food bank gives mow a lot of satisfaction. the reason why i got involved is because i think in our african-american, in our community we're missing out on

this >> reporter: . >> i would call it the sin of renewal >> reporter: he speaks of the city's redevelopment project that wiped out four prime city blocks of the neighborhood which in the 1970 as was 80% black the damage was catastrophic. >> 883 businesses were closed. by the way, my aunt tugie's store was one of them all with the promise, hey, don't worry. we'll bring you back. not only did they never come back but you looked at the stats, the african-american population plummeted from 12%, 13%, to down under 3% >> reporter: in fact, the bay area census shows, the percentage of black african- american in san francisco dropped from 13% in 190 to 11%
