break kicks off in florida, crowds of partygoers are much larger compared to last year. the state has reduced restrictions even though it has the most coronavirus variant cases in the u.s. meantime, more countries in europe are suspending the use of the astrazeneca shot. there are concerns over blood clotting though there has been no evidence that the vaccine is to blame. naomi ruchim is new york. naomi, there is some vaccine news here as well? >> reporter: well, anne-marie, we have some good news to start off the day, 38 million americans are now fully vaccinated. and there are now two states opening the vaccine up to eryone old e that being said, with spring break going on there is a lot of concern over both travel and crowding. today, mississippi becomes the second state joining alaska allowing anyone 16 and older to get vaccinated. >> i think it would be great for

mississippi so we can get back to some kind of normalcy. we all need it. >> reporter: more than 11% of the u.s. population is fully vaccinated to leaving many states to loosen restrictions. >> that will make more people happy. >> reporter: president biden has directed states to make shots available to everyone by may 1st. >> shots in arms and money in pockets. >> reporter: the president will travel the country this week, promoting his covid relief bill. >> we have to prove to the american people their government can deliver for them and doubt without waste or fraud. >> reporter: today, mr. biden visits a small business near philadelphia, while the first lady and members of the administration also crisscross america. >> with the america rescue plan, help is here. >> reporter: the head of the cdc, though, is urging americans not to take a victory lap just yet. she insists the coronavirus surge is still possible, if americans aren't cautious as they travel for spring break. >> it climbed last spring, they

climbed again in the summer. they will climb now. >> reporter: down in south florida -- >> we came down here from the midwest to enjoy some sun. >> reporter: local officials have cause for concern. >> we've got too many people coming just acting out and we've got covid at the same time. >> reporter: florida has the most known area of the highly contagious variant. for anyone 16 and older, anne-marie, that doesn't apply to the young spring breakers. that's where the concern is, that those folks are not vaccinated. and they'll be crowding. and that could lead to yet another covid surge. anne-marie. >> yeah, of course. then they travel to florida and then they go back home to wherever they came from. and then the cycle continues. naomi ruchim in new york, thank you very much. so, this morning, the biden administration is scrambling to shelter an influx of migrant children at the u.s./mexico border. right now, there are plans to house up to 3,000 immigrant

teenagers at this convention center in dallas. now, it could open up as soon as this week and be used for up to 90 days.es ay, led by house gop leader kevin mccarthy. they're blaming the border crisis on the new administration. but the white house is pushing back. >> the sad part about all of this didn't have to happen. there's no other way to claim it than a biden border crisis. >> the options here are send the kids back on a journey. send them to unvetted homes or work to expedite moving them to shelters. that's exactly what we're focused on doing. >> 4200 children are currently being held at overcrowded processing facilities. that's a 30% surge in the last week. two men have been charged with assaulting capitol police officer brian sicknick. who died after responding to the capitol riot. 32-year-old julian khater and 39-year-old george tanios were

arrested on sunday. they were allegedly caught on video at the start of the january riot. investigators say khater was spraying a canister of bear spray at officer sicknick and two others. sicknick collapsed later and died the following day. investigators are still awaiting the full autopsy results into his death. there are new developments in the probe of the misconduct of governor cuomo and one of his accusers spent four hours talking about it. jericka duncan has more. >> reporter: the embattled governor of new york saying nothing about the swirling accusations. >> sometimes, god comes and he knocks you on your rear end for one reason or another. >> reporter: but the independent investigation is picking up steam. cbs news has learned, charlotte bennett, one of the seven women who have accused the governor of sexual harassment or misconduct

and who sat down with norah for an exclusive interview met with investigators. according to bennett's attorney, the meeting lasted more than four hours. bennett provided more than 120 pages of contemporaneous records and claims that bennett provided information that the governor had a preoccupation with his hand size and what the large size of his hand indicated to charlotte and other members of his staff. on monday, for the first time, the president weighed in on whether the governor should resign. >> i think the investigation is under way. >> reporter: governor cuomo denies he sexually harassed anyone, but the seven, including the most recent, called for the governor to resign from democrats in the state house and the majority of the new york congressional delegation. new york state party chairman jay jacob. >> i believe we should have an investigation, it should be an independent one, which we have, and i think we need to wait for the results and then make a

determination. >> reporter: there's controversies over the state's vaccine czar who reportedly made call to try to garner support for governor cuomo. the chair of the state's party said that czar was not the right person to make those calls. jericka duncan, cbs news, new york. in a setback for gay catholics, the vatican says the catholic church cannot bless same-sex unions. pope francis approved the two-page statement released yesterday. it came in response to questions raised by some pastors who sought to be more inclusive of gay couples. and the vatican says the church should welcome gay people with respect and sensitivity but not endorse their union saying god cannot bless sin. well, coming up, the fbi reveals the motives behind the christmas day bombing in nashville. and emotional reaction, comedian tiffany haddish shares the moment she learned she won a grammy. this is the "cbs morning news."

the senate has confirmed the mexico representative deb haaland could be the interior secretary. she becomes the first native-american to become a cabinet member. four republicans voted yes, she will lead the kept that overseas the country's tribal and public land. several republicans oppose haaland over the support of the green new deal and the position for projects and fracking. and there are new details about the national bombing on christmas day and there might be another delay in the george floyd case. those are some the headlines on the morning newsstand. "minnesota star tribune" reports an attorney for the ex-police officer charged in george floyd's death asked the judge to delay and move the trial. the lawyer for derek chauvin said last week's announcement that the city reached a $27 million before its family could

make a fair trial impossible. nine jurors have already been selected. floyd died last may after chauvin pressed his knee against his neck for almost nine minutes. the "san diego union tribune" said three people were killed and a driver injured when a driver drove into a tunnel and plowed into an encampment. the car was headed into a tunnel when it ran into several people sheltering in tents. one man said it happened so fast, he had no time to get out of the way. >> right here on the right side. the elbow and the sides, cut. i have road rash. >> police arrested the 71-year-old driver, he faces several charges including vehicular manslaughter and driving while impaired by drugs. and the tennesseean reports the fbi says a man who detonated a bomb in downtown nashville on

the pharmaceutical company said it began dosing candidates with vaccine that could potentially be stored and shipped in refrigerators instead of freezers. if it works, that means the shot could be handled by ordinary pharmacies that aren't equipped with ultra low freezers. the move could help with vaccine rollout in developing countries. the faa will continue to crack down on unruly passengers by extending its zero tolerance policy. major u.s. carriers have reported more than 500 cases of customers acting out since late december. most of those cases involve passengers refusing to follow airline and federal mask mandates. the faa says its zero tolerance policy which began in january will stala f a least as long as the federal mask mandate is in effect. and history has been made, former starbucks executive ross sa lind brewer took over her new role as ceo of walgreens yesterday.
