a difference. starting out much clear, very important. and today, it's going to be the warmest day of the seventh day. and yesterday was already pretty one. a cloud here in the tri-valley. you can see a little bit of it from the sales force looking west and you don't see any from the top of our camera that we've got. where we now? we are all sitting in the 40s where will we be this afternoon? i will have more on that in just a few minutes. san francisco marking the anniversary of the 1906 earthquake within the past hour, other officials gathered at the fountain. they observed a moment of silence at the time when the

earthquake struck hundred and 15 years ago. are marking one year since a man was shot and killed in a walmart store by police. it led to legal action against the officer. the socially distance event to celebrate the 33-year-old life will take place this afternoon at the park. one year ago the officer responded to a call about a man with a bat in a store. 42nd he tased him and then shot him. last week an investigator said he failed to de-escalate the situation or use crisis intervention techniques. a lawyer for the family says he was suffering a mental health crisis. this morning police are investigating a pair of homicides after a father and his baby were killed in an early-morning fire.

it happened on stearns avenue. near the oakland zoo. investigators believe it was a deliberate act of arson and they say the incident was connected to a string of other crimes including a murder. we report from oakland on how the cases are connected. stomach they say a homicide triggered several retaliatory attacks. but they say that this family is innocent and not involved with that homicide. witnesses say that somebody threw objects to the windows causing those flames to burn the house. >> they have something exposing them to or three times. >> they killed a 37-year-old and his one-year-old daughter. police say that the father tried to rescue him. >> the father and the child were found there and so, i was really sad but coffee the he has second degree burns to the lower body. >> she was supposed to give

birth this month. >> the woman's mother suffered from birth. they say that she was working as a cashier last saturday when somebody shot and killed the 25- year-old inside of the store. they say that once and a customer got into a dispute before the shooting. the man who shot was recently turned himself in. they believe that what has ties to a local gang. they suspect his associates set fire there wednesday night. detectives say that they may also be responsible for the shooting at another store that injured a cashier on monday. this marks the latest retaliatory attack. >> i don't know why they came here we're not related to him. >> it's really sad that in our community somebody would do something so heinous as like setting a ofi the f e nigh d,kig oceneysay that they were hoping for ul le

after escaping work from their home country. >> we came from yemen because of the war. but, they just followed us to this place. >> the mother is still in the hospital. they are hoping that the baby in her will survive. oakland police and crimestoppers are offering a reward in those cases. they are asking if you have any information to call them. a disturbing site at a house after vandals targeted the home. a pigs head was thrown at the door. police say that the homeowner was likely not the intended target. this is how the crime was actually connected ou what police say appears to be animal blood on the garage, the door and the windows of a home where they

used to live. police say a decapitated pigs head was also thrown on the front porch. they say that broad has worked with the department since 2004 and no longer lives in california. the victim appears to be falsely targeted. >> he was justified and acting with a jet objective reasonableness. >> he testified as a defense expert. he said he believes that he followed his police training when he knelt on his neck for more than nine minutes. they used him to paint a crowd of witnesses as a threat. >> they can see that the focus started to move to the crowd to one point i think that he felt threatened enough that he withdrew his spray canister and gave commands to stay back. so now he's dealing with that.

>> they challenge the testimony by showing a video of that crowd. in downtown santa rosa they say it appears that the same vandals also targeted a large statue in front of the santa rosa mall overnight. they left the side which had a picture of a pig that has since been cleaned up. those suspects matched the descriptions of the people who vandalized the house earlier tonight. >> that was betty reporting. they say that the former officer hasn't lived there for a number of years they also say that his comments do not reflect the values or the police beliefs. happening tomorrow, closing arguments in the murder trial of the former minneapolis police officer who kneeled on george floyd's neck from more than nine minutes. he's facing three charges. ird - degree manslaughter. after closing arguments a jury will then begin its deliberations. meanwhile cities are bracing

for possible protests when that trial is over. in minneapolis they are preparing for violent reactions. planning for potential unrest which could be worse than the rioting after his death last may. crowds were back on the streets at brooklyn center. where another was killed this month. they breached the defense surrounding a police building. they use a chemical irritant to put the crowd back. national guard soldiers had to move into the area. some protesters taken into custody. in sacramento overnight, people floated onto the streets to protest police killings across the united states. they stood in the midtown area. earlier they gathered near the state capital. there were police officers hurt

when they were sprayed with a liquid irritant. and also new this morning demonstrators also angry over police shootings vandalizing a statue of christopher columbus. the word murder was among those painted on the base. they had been targeted across the country because of his interest mistreatment of indigenous people. stomach vigils were held in indianapolis for the eight victims gone down in mass shootings at a fedex facility. the suspect is a former employee who last worked for the company in 2020. so far they are not saying if he knew any of his victims. nikki reports from indianapolis. >> reporter: they gathered saturday evening to remember the victims of the fedex rampage. she lost her grandmother. today she was supposed to celebrate her engagement with her. >> i feel so empty. it's supposed to be one of the biggest days of my life.

>> they say eight people were gunned down by the former worker. a year ago his own mother had reported him saying he may try to die by suicide by cop. they say is put on a mental health prevention and a shotgun was taken from his home. on saturday his family issued a statement offering "sincerest and most heartfelt apologies to the victims and saying, we are devastated at the loss of life caused at a result of his actions. we tried to get him the help he needed. they said that the suspect began firing in the parking lot where he gunned down for people. >> there was no confrontation with anyone i was there. he just appeared to randomly start shooting. >> they say he then entered the facility and killed four more before turning the gun on himself. the 74-year-old showed us this photo just before learning that he died in the massacre.

new this morning, a road is closed after a deadly crash. it happened at about 11:30 p.m. between pepper and greensville roads. they say that the closure will stay in effect until later this morning. police who live there should use the 101 or the old redwood highway as alternate routes. nearly 3800 anti-asianrepo 4occ ns o si endege tsee upport. more than 100 restaurants joined what they called the day of action gi organizations.

a lot of those businesses the chance to take advantage of the extra foot traffic. >> we plan the event in about a month. we needed to do something immediately in the forefront of people's minds. and the responses been absolutely amazing. than a dozen restaurants did something similar in the south bay donating proceeds to stop the hate. let's do a little comparison on daytime highs between today and yesterday. the first thing i want to do is to share where we are going to be for today. they are pretty impressive numbers. these be the warmest temperatures we have hit so far this year. this is just 3 degrees shy of 90. it would be 78 in san jose, but, what we need to do is do the comparison which how much warmer these numbers are.

i think that that's probably what you will notice. but for santa rosa it will be much as much as 10 degrees warmer. we were only the upper 70s. so, going to the middle 80s today will likely feel warmer for concord. you may not notice this today but, this is when you really did the big jump. should we hit that? that will be in 11 degree warm- up here. but, still going to be under the influence a little bit more of those events. it may help keep temperatures down. no clouds here. that's the view looking off towards the east. if you want to find any of that mid-level stratus cloud, you can see just a little bit out of it out there. nobody is there unless you're out on the beaches. and if you look at the

influence on temperatures, we have gotten cooler. it's cooler this morning than it was yesterday. you'lsin thedl by a this will give you a head start here. and it will be an offshore flow here. not at the immediate coast. that will give the temperatures enough to climb from where they were. if we just do the overview, you can see the spread from 86 in livermore to 63 at pacifica. it's not as big of a spread as it was. and the warmest day of the seven day. quite possibly, here if we look at the long range, we are waiting for any possible hope here. i hinted that there was a small chance for light rain. this time we get to is next

people. >> it's all becoming normal. >> despite the damage, they s n major injuries. in the east bay, they shot and killed a man after they say that he nearly killed one of their own. it happened around 4:00 a.m. on unincorporated hayward. they were responding to those reports. that a man assigning them with a gun. a bullet grazed one of their heads. this is a photo of the gun. his identity hasn't been released. they say that he had an extensive and violent criminal history. more than 3 million people have now died from the coronavirus around the world as it spread across the united states they are particularly confirmed with that found in britain.

that is an impressive and intimidating storm. >> if we look at the pacific as a whole, we are looking at the majority of the basin to find it. but now, that category typhoon is going to have its own history over here. and the consequences probably can't be understated at this point. but, it does have an influence on our weather in the long-term. actually going to get caught up on the enough dragging it back and entire ocean. here, you can see a pretty impressive line. late in the month. it is going to pull into a lot of subtropical moisture taking us to the last few days of april. but if this comes together, could be the leftovers from the typhoon in other words, it would be our best shot of rain.

doesn't get here until the last two days. but all this talk, it is connected to that typhoon. i just thought it was an interesting point. if you take a look at this, that's the scene in the tri- valley. it is a beautifully clean start. and, back probably help today if you are going to keep those temperatures relatively cool. but, if not, it's going to be a noticeably warm day. this is our cool spot. but, the daytime highs of the headlines. some of our warmer spots here going to 86 in livermore. degrees warmer than yesterday. so, a subtle warm-up. except that it is a little bit

warmer. because, this is where we will be close to these degrees. even in the city, that is 67 for san francisco. this is going to be close to about 11 degrees warmer than yesterday. we may not make it to 67. if we want to know what happens next, today's the peak. those are our inland numbers. on sunday right here. and after this, you can see it's down here. but even after that, this is for most of the middle part of next late this would be an average daytime high for many inland locations this time of year. so, we are going to stay relatively warm. but it is today. it is the peak.
