this week -- 100 days in office. a new cbs news/ugov poll finds most americans think mr. biden is doing well. 58% approve of his handling of the job, while 42% don't. meantime, the same poll finds 65% think mr. biden is doing a good job handling the coronavirus outbreak. 35% think he's doing a bad job. this comes as the johnson & johnson vaccine resumes use in america. federal officials lifted the pause after an extensive safety review. laura podesta is in new york. laura, what's the reason behind the decision? >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. it was determined that the advantages to the shot far outweighed the disadvantages. the cdc estimated that 600 to 1,ople wav from covid ithno putack into circulation. noth that a few dozen people will develop those dangerous blood clots, and that's why there will now be a new warning on the

label. johnson & johnson's coronavirus vaccine is back in circulation following a nine-day pause. >> we can now say we take this very seriously, we've looked at it. now let's get back and get people vaccinated. >> reporter: millions of doses were placed on hold after a handful of women developed a rare and dangerous type of blood clot. >> statistically, it's still such a low percentage of people. >> reporter: for some americans like victoria wintersburger, the j&j jab is the best option. >> i have three kids and i'm busy, and i thought it would be more efficient. and one less poke in my arm. >> reporter: others will be taking the two-days moderna or pfizer vaccines. >> i was signed up for the johnson & johnson. when everything hit about thepr the population has gotten at least one dose, and 28% are fully vaccinated. >> there are people who are clearly vaccine hesitant. >> reporter: former fda commissioner dr. scott gottlieb

says it's important to find new ways to reach skeptics. >> we can reach with better education and getting the vaccines into the hands of people that they trust like their local physicians. >> reporter: one group health officials worry about reaching is younger people. but 17-year-old delaney belcher hopes her fellow students see the benefits. >> yeah. i have -- maybe a prom, who knows. >> reporter: a european union official told "the new york times" that vaccinated americans should be able to travel to europe this summer. but the president of the european commission did not give the paper a timeline as far as dook th trip arould travel. laura,nk you soting a black man by deputies in north carolina. the sheriff whose deputies shot and killed andrew brown jr. last

wednesday said he'll ask a judge to release the footage. deputies were trying to serve a search and arrest warrant when brown was shot as he tried to drive away. seven deputies have been placed on leave. brown's son says he just wants answers. >> i got to live every day, my newborn, without getting a chance to meet him at all. and that's going to hurt me every day. i just want justice. >> brown's family and people in the community are demanding transparency and the release of the body camera footage. most americans believe that the jury was right to convict former minneapolis police officer derek chauvin in the murder of george floyd. a new cbs news/ugov poll finds 75% think the right verdict was reached last week. the poll spanned racial, age, and partisan groups. looking at race specifically, 70% of the white respondents and 93% of the black respondents young and old agreed with the verdict.

the events in minneapolis also got a mention during last night's academy awards. in the opening minutes of the show, actor and director regina king acknowledged the hardships of the past year. >> we are mourning the loss of so many, and i have to be honest, if things had gone differently this past week in minneapolis, i might have traded in my heels for marching boots. [ applause ] >> king said movies help bring people together during difficult times. this year's selection of nominees showed a big step for racial progress. danya bacchus is in los angeles. what were the biggest highlights of the night? >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. with pandemic protocols in place, oscars producers promised the so how would be like a movie, and it was. for regina king's entrance to "nomadland's" historic win, there was even a surprise twist at the end. the 93rd academy awards took on

cinematic look of its own from los angeles' iconic union station. actress regina king, who made her directorial debut with "one night in miami," addressed the pandemic in her opening monologue. >> it has been quite a year, and we are still smack dab in the middle of it. >> reporter: daniel kaluuya won best supporting actor for "judas and the black messiah." the film chronicles an fbi informant's infiltration of the black panther party. >> it was about telling the truth and getting it out there and making sure people see who this man was. >> reporter: yuh-jung youn was named best supporting actress for the story of a korean american family that moves to an arkansas farm. >> i have just little bit luck i think maybe. i'm luckier than you. [ laughter ] >> reporter: she's the first korean actress to win the award. for the first time ever, almost half the a renowned a humanitarian award and urged americans to reject hate.

[ applause ] or lgbtq. i refuse to hate someone because they are a police officer. >> reporter: "nomadland" scooped up the oscar for best picture. frances mcdormand won best actress for her role in the movie. and chloe zhao became the first woman of color to win best director for film. >> this is for anyone who has the faith and the courage to hold on to the goodness in themselves. >> reporter: near the end of the night, anthony hopkins took best actor for "the father." his second win after "the silence of the lambs." at 83, he's the oldest best actor winner in oscar history. and hopkins' win was something of an upset. many expected the late chadwick boseman to win posthumously for his role in "ma rainey's black bottom." anne-marie? >> danya bacchus in los angeles. thank you very much.

these are the champions -- >> "mortal combat" conquered the weekend box office. the warner bros. movie snagged the top spot earning $22.5 million. it's also streaming on hbo max. "mortal combat" has sold more tickets in the u.s. than any other movie during the pandemic aside from "godzilla versus kong." on the cbs "money watch," why processing is delayed for tens of millions of tax returns, and united airlines is adding flights for a summer travel surge. diane king hall is in new york with those stories and more. good morning, diane. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. well, investors are look forward to a slew of corporate earnings this week, plus a federal reserve monetary policy decision is on deck. on friday stocks ended in positive territory.

the dow rallied 227 points. the nasdaq gained 198, and the s&p 500 added 45. many americans are still waiting for their tax refunds. that's because the irs is holding 29 million tax returns for manual processing, according to the national taxpayer advocate. the organization says the backlog of unprocessed 2019 paper tax returns because the irs closed its offices during the pandemic. on the flip side, the irs has gone through more than 91 million tax returns filed for 2020, and it's issued more than 68 million refunds so far. honda wants to go green. the japanese automaker announced plans to phase out all gasoline-powered vehicles in north america by 2040. it's the latest major automaker with a goal of becoming carbon neutral. the company's ceo expects that 40% of its vehicle sales will be battery or fuel cell powered by the end of the decade. and from the ground to the skies, united airlines is banking on a busy summer travel season.

caitlyn jenner is running for governor of california. the transgender rights activist announced her candidacy for the state's highest office last friday. jenner said that she filed her paperwork and would run a republican. the 71-year-old has criticized governor gavin newsom's handling of the pandemic. newsom is expected to face a recall election in the fall. a texas woman has a felony charge on her record for not returning a vhs tape back in 1999. caron mcbride only learned about it after trying to change her last name following a marriage. the tape in question -- "sabrina the teenage witch." she was charged in march of 2000 for felony embezzlement while the retail location later went out of business in 2008. >> there was no way for her to know that she had this warrant without calling a sheriff's office randomly and saying, hey, do i have a warrant for my arrest for anything?

>> the charges have since been dropped after mcbride's story aired on local tv. she will need an attorney to get the case expunged to clear her record. what's in a name? just ask josh or ask all of them who gathered in lincoln, nebraska, for a pool noodle brawl. >> three, two, one -- [ cheers ] >> this started as a joke. a guy named josh created a josh fight at the start of the pandemic and then challenged all joshes to a duel. the event got the attention of joshes from all over the nation. wiht was the smallest josh of them all. >> we just wanted to be a part of it. big. and yeah, so i mean, his name is josh. so i figured we'd have double the chance of winning, you know. >> 4-year-old josh was honored with a paper crown and bragging rights. the event also helped raise money for local charities.
