watch cbs in bay area with the kpix 5 news app. this is the cbs overnight news. in an exclusive interview with cbs's face the nation. prime minister, benjamin netanyahu said that there's no clear end in sight between israel and the palestinians in the gaza strip, he defended the military strikes the civilians have taken the brunt of the violence. today, alternative least 42 people died including ten children. israel blames hamas saying it's targeting leaders and infrastructure linked to the

militant group. >> reporter: the horror in gaza is only getting worse. after israeli air strikes flattened three buildings today, killing at least 33 palestinians bringing the death toll to nearly 200. it's the deadliest single day attack since fighting broke out a week ago. gaza's ministry of health said nearly 60 children are among the dead. as rescuers dig through the rubble, they call out asking if anyone can hear them and get a response. he said yes. i hear you. before being pulled out despite the devastation across gaza, hamas is continuing the rocket campaign against israel. 3,000 rockets have been fired in to israeli territory. the vast majority are intercept bid what is known as the iron dome missile defense system. but not all are caught. causing damage like this, in the

this is the "cbs overnight news." thanks for staying with us. opening ceremonies for the summer limb picks in tokyo are scheduled to take place on july 22rd. the games were postponed last year because of the coronavirus pandemic, but the international olympic committee said it has no intention of postponing them again. others are not so sure, the country is battling another wave of covid-19 infections and the recent poll shows 70% of people in japan want the games
