milestone in the battle against covid as tens of millions of americans prepare to travel for memorial day weekend. 50% of people in the u.s. 18 and older are now fully vaccinated. this comes as moderna says its vaccine could soon be available for kids as young as 12. laura podesta is in new york. laura, how soon are we talking? >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. as soon as next month, that's when the company says it will be requesting fda authorization. so far studies show it is 100% effective in kids 12 and older. so if approved, it could join pfizer as a vaccine option for that age group. the head of the cdc has this message for americans heading into the holiday weekend -- >> if you are vaccinated, you are protected, and you can enjoy your memorial day. if you are not vaccinated, our guidance has not changed for you. you remain at risk of infection. you still need to mask and take other precautions. >> reporter: preparations are

says he doesn't expect a vaccine for children under 12 to be available in time for the new school year. that's because dr. fauci said that the results from clinical trials won't be ready until the end of the year. anne-marie? >> laura podesta in new york. thank you so much, laura. well, at least one person is dead and three unaccounted for after a fire-fighting helicopter crashed in central florida during a training exercise. the faa says the chopper crashed into a marsh near an airport in leesburg. footage shows black smoke billowing into the air. four people were on board the black hawk helicopter at the time. authorities say the incident appears to be a total loss, and no survivors have been found. the faa and the ntsb are investigating the crash. manhattan's district attorney who is leading the criminal probe into former president trump's business dealings has reportedly convened

be censured or expelled. she's not backing down. greene blamed the media and the american left for stoking outrage over her remarks. nikole killion, cbs news, capitol hill. president biden met with george floyd's family on the one-year anniversary of his death. floyd's family came to the white house yesterday, and they met with mr. biden, the vice president, and congressional leaders behind closed doors. floyd's brother, terrence, says that he's hopeful police reform will happen. >> being here today is an honor. you know, to meet with the president and the vice president and for them to show their concern to our family and for them to actually give an ear to our concerns and how we feel on the situation. >> last night people in minneapolis gathered for a candlelight vigil at the site of where floyd died while in police custody. a woman is facing assault charges after she allegedly attacked a southwest flight attendant knocking out two of her teeth.

a passenger took cell phone video of the woman being escorted off the plane by police on sunday. they were on a flight from sacramento to san diego. witnesses say everything was fine until they landed. >> apparently what she did was she stood up and took off her seat belt, and the flight attendant told her to put it back on. and she attacked her. >> start at each other, and next time i saw -- don't touch me, they're yelling. the lady stood up and pow. and then she knocked her out on the floor. >> the flight attendant will be okay. the president of the southwest flight attendants union says that she wants more federal air marshals and a tougher stance against disruptive passengers. coming up, a tangled situation. a parachuter in california misses his mark. and miracle survival. a man missing for more than two weeks in the oregon wilderness

better starts with breyers. a man attempting a parachute jump in southern california got caught in power lines. power companies crews were called to lake elsinore to free the man. he was dangling above the ground. power had to be cut to the lines in order to free him. he was lowered in a bucket lift and taken to a hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. a man missing for more than two weeks in the oregon wilderness was found alive, and there's a key summit for president biden next month. those are some of the headlines on the "morning newsstand." the "associated press" reports president biden will meet face to face next month with russian president vladimir putin. the two leaders will meet at a summit june 16th in geneva. they're expected to discuss several topics including russia's actions in ukraine, election interference, and the

pandemic. the white house says that there are no preconditions. the meeting will take place after mr. biden attends a g-7 meeting in britain and a nato summit in belgium. "the new york times" says idaho couple lori vallow and chad daybell were charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of vallow's two children. a grand jury indicted the couple on several charges in connection with the deaths of 17-year-old tylee ryan and 7-year-old joshua "jj" vallow. chad daybell was also charged with murdering his previous wife weeks before he married lori vallow.+y;k the children di=peared in pq 2019, their remains were found buried in the back yard of chadw daybell's home.hby[wg 69-year-old man missing in the oregon wilderness for 17 nights was found alive.$a harry burleigh was reported missing may 7th after he did not come home from a fishing and camping trip. rescue crews searched but could
