[ laughter ] >> we begin with some very good news and an exciting milestone in the fight against the coronavirus. today half of all adults in america are fully vaccinated. more than 60% of the adults in the u.s. have had at least one shot and there's also been major progress in vaccinating kids. studies show the pfizer and moderna vaccines are safe and 100% effective in kids as young as 12, but some parents are still nervous about the shot. our lead national correspondent

david begnaud is in los angeles where officials just launched a program to vaccinate kids at school. david, how is it going so far? >> kind of slow. when we came to this school in downtown los angeles yesterday they only had two kids in line and the organizers were pretty disappointed about it. over 13 days here in the los angeles unified school district, they'll do these pop-up clinics at 250 schools. it's one thing to get the kids to say sure, i'll take the vaccine, but you also need mom and dad to give their permission and in some situations that's becoming more difficult to get. >> that's it. >> all right. thank you. >> feel that at all? >> no. ? see? it is back to school for dr. jerry abraham. >> is this your dad? >> kids ages 12 and up are eligible for the vaccine and he's partnered with the l.a. school district to get students the shot, but his latest vaccination campaign has a unique challenge. >> we've had very difficult

conversations with moms and dads about why their kids should be vaccinated. we hear the microchipping. we hear you're going to grow a tail, become a mutant, it will affect your reproductive organs. none of those things are true. > to help combat that misinformation, dr. abraham helped to launch a canvassing effort called get out the shot. they go door to door across various communities to educate people and get them registered for the vaccine. this effort is a far cry from the early days when the vaccine was first available. that's when dr. abraham's clinic was overwhelmed with vaccine demand. >> that was the easy part. now you've got students who really want it because it can mean getting to join the basketball team or getting to go to a clippers game or to the movies, but now your parents are saying we don't have enough information. it is really heartbreaking to see someone who wants to get vaccinated and then they're not able to because their family doesn't want them to. >> he told us about one of those

young people and we went to meet him. 17-year-old yovani balthazar. he even signed up some of his peers and when it came to get the vaccine his mother said no. not even dr. abraham could convince her otherwise. >> she was afraid of me getting the vaccine because of, like, the side effects. >> how long did it take to convince your mom to allow you to get it? >> it took a couple of weeks. two weeks and we talked to my doctor to get the green light and now my mom is in. >> black, brown, yellow or white, your vaccine and your choice and you have questions and everyone has the right to have their questions answered. we believe it is in your child's best interest, in our community's best interest that everyone over 12 who has no medical contraindications gets vaccinated. that is what we know. >> right now pfizer is the vaccine being given to the kids, but moderna is about to be thrown into the mix. the pharmaceutical company says

real soon they'll request emergency use authorization. moderna says the results from the vaccine trial shows that moderna's vaccine is 100% effective in kids ages 12 to 17. >> all right. 100% effective. normally a good thing. thank you very much, david. >> the investigations of former president donald trump and his company are entering a serious new phase now. cbs news has learned that one of those probes is bringing evidence to a new grand jury which could potentially lead to criminal charges. the former president calls the investigation purely political, driven by highly partisan democrat prosecutors. cbs news legal analyst rikki klieman joins us to discuss. good morning to you, rikki. how big a deal -- >> good morning. >> how big a deal is this latest development? should donald trump be worried? he doesn't sound lik he is. >> yes, it is a big deal and yes, donald trump should be very worried. cy vance, the district attorney,

has investigated this case with a team of prosecutors, investigators and forensic accountants for two years. for him to go to the next step of impaneling a special grand jury really means that they are looking at a possible prosecution. the question is of who or what? the trump organization, donald trump himself, his children or alan weisselberg? we need to talk about alan weisselberg. he holds the keys to the kingdom. he's the chief financial officer and the treasurer, there is no transaction that did not go through alan weisselberg. how did this all begin? michael cohen testified in congress and he said that values of properties were inflated in order to get loans, deflated in order to pay taxes. so what would the d.a. be looking at? possible charmes of bank fraud, insurance fraud, tax fraud.

this is a problem for donald trump if alan weisselberg becomes a witness against him. >> so what is his defense at this point? >> his defense is i did what i was told. my accountants looked at it. my banks looked at it. my financial people looked at it and i signed the documents. i never had any intent to break any law. that's always the defense, gayle, in cases like this. >> all right, rikki klieman, thank you. good to see you. we go now to washington where republicans are encountering a challenge from within over the identity of the party. congresswoman marjorie taylor greene is once again facing condemnation, this time from both parties for comparing mask mandates and vaccines to the holocaust. kris van cleave is on capitol hill. the congresswoman has been ashs khussed for doing this for the attention, i'm sorry, and it seems to be working.

>> well, good morning. there is bipartisan agreement that the rhetoric coming out of congresswoman marjorie taylor greene is wrong, but that's not stopping her. in fact, just hours after being condemned by republican leadership on the hill she doubled down. >> congresswoman marjorie taylor greene made this comparison on a podcast lashing out against house speaker nancy pelosi's decision to requiring them for wearing masks on the floor. >> we can look back at history where people were made to wear a gold star and treated like second-class citizens so much so that they were taken on trains and taken to gas chambers in nazi, germany. >> vaccinated employees get a vaccination logo just like the nazis forced jewish people to wear a gold star. it prompted republican rebukes. >> this is one of frequent outbursts that are outrageous and reprehensible.

>> i think we should kick her out of the conference and prevent her coming to conference meetings and benefiting from conference materials. >> house minority leader kevin mccarthy called her comments appalling and there was no talk of consequences. buck worked for two house speakers and said leadership has few tools left. >> frankly, saying things like this right now continues to be rewarded in media attention and fund raising and having people talk about them. that's what they're searching for. >> greene is blaming democrats for the outcry writing i'm sorry some of my words make people uncomfortable, but this is what the american left is all about. chuck schumer is the first jewish senate majority leader. >> these are sickening, reprehensible comments and she should stop this vile language immediately. >> at least one democrat in the house is pushing to have greene expelled. another would like to seek a censure resolution. it is unclear if either of those would make it to the floor for a

vote. democrats did strip greene of her committee memberships based on previous comments they deemed offensive. as for greene she uses the controversy to fund raise and she is raising millions of dollars so there's no reason for her to stop. anthony? >> kris, thank you. the family of george floyd remains determined to get congress to pass police reform legislation in his name. family members met with president biden and vice president harris yesterday at the white house one year to the day after he was killed. they had hoped to have a signin justice and policing act, but lawmakers are still negotiating. george floyd's nephew, brandon williams after they were meeting. >> he's not happy about it not being met. all in all, heanted to be rid and meaningful. >> the family also visited black

lives matter plaza which was created not far from the white house. yesterday darnella frazier who filmed floyd's death also flee pleaded for reform. she yowrote, shouldn't have to take people to actually go through something. it's right from wrong. it was his first public comment since dissident journalist and his girlfriend were taken off the plane and arrested on sunday. the move led to sanctions by the european union, charlie d'agata reports on belarus' effort to justify what other officials are calling a hijacking. >> president aleksander lukashenko came out swinging, strangling belarus and saying it was a total lie that the plane was forced down. defiance expected of the man nicknamed the last dictator europe. he doubled down that it was a

bomb threat that forced that ryanair passenger plane down on sunday. western leaders believe it was instead a plot to arrest activist roman protasevich seen here in what is believed to be a forced confession monday. [ speaking foreign language ] >> in a transcript released by lukashenko's government the ryanair pilot repeatedly questions the controller over the forced diversion. this recommendation to minsk, where did it come from? arrival, airport authorities? the controller replies, this is our recommendation. >> protasevich's companion apparently under duress confessing to being the editor of anoverent social media channel. friends and family now fear for their lives.

protasevich's mother natalya made an urgent plea to world leaders. >> translator: i am begging for help. i am begging for help, she says. please save him. they're going to kill him in there. she has not heard from her son roman since he was detained. for cbs this morning, charlie d'agata, london. this morning facebook releases its first-ever threat report on efforts to spread political misinformation on its platform. the company removed more than 150 so-called influence operations after criticism that it failed to block russian interference in 2016. senior investigative correspondent katherine spoke with facebook about the findings. good morning to you. what's the big takeaway here. >> gayle, the nearly 40-page report by cbs news found a growing number of groups right here at home manipulating information for political and financial gain. facebook stress the problem is very real in other countries.

leading up to the 2020 campaigns, facebook investigators found election meddling by traditional adversaries like russia and iran was compounded by new efforts to distort the facts. >> that was actually one of the big surprises. >> nathanial is facebook's head of security policy. >> domestic interferencer both experience challenges and you have to tackle them both at the same time. it's not just u.s. elections. according to the report, facebook has identified influence operations that came from over 50 countries in 30 languages, on every continent except antarctica. >> in the united states we see these types of activities linked to marketing firms, linked to sort of political actors and linked to fringe groups or conspiracy theory groups. >> what does domestic interference look like? imagine a perk r firm or marketing firm that hires a few people in the united states to use their social media accounts

and to advocate for particular issues or on behalf of a particular candidate. >> glieser said facebook started taking down such operations in 2017. >> among the threats, facebook observed perception hacks designed to undermine voter confidence. >> one of the key claims they've seen people make is that they've hacked election systems and that is people playing on the fear that that happened and they're trying to weaponize uncertainty and weaponize our own fears. >> for a lay person it's hard to know what's real, what's trustworthy. what would you say to them? >> ask who is reporting it? who is behind them and how much do you know about that person and can you get more context? >> it is exploiting political divisions because these influence operations cap it willize on fear and uncertainty. the facebook report comes as president biden is set to meet middle of next month with the

but we couldn't do it without you. thank you, san francisco. gracias, san francisco. -thank you. -[ speaks native language ] let's keep making a differene together. welcome back to "cbs this morning." we have a big development in a case we first reported on 18 months ago. the mother of two idaho children who disappeared in 2019 is now accused of killing them. the remains of tylee ryan and joshua "jj" vallow were buried on the property of lori vallow's new husband, chad daybell. vallow and daybell were charged with first-degree murder yesterday, nearly one year after the bodies were found. jamie yuccas has more on the indictment. >> reporter: this was the scene at the idaho home of chad daybell andin june of last year where authorities discovered the bodies of 16-year-old tylee ryan and 7-year-old joshua "jj"

vallow. daybell as well as his new wife lori vallow, the children's mother, were charged with multiple felonies, including conspiracy to hide the children's remains. they both pleaded not guilty. now a grand jury has indicted them for murder. >> the penalty for the most serious charges range from life in prison without the possibility of parole to the death penalty. >> reporter: daybell married vallow in 2019, just two weeks after the death of his wife, tammy. the timing raised the suspicions of authorities who had her body exhumed. the autopsy report is still pending. daybell is charged with murder and insurance fraud in connection with her death, as well. >> lori daybell was also indicted on the charge of grand theft related to social security survivor benefits allocated for the care of minors tylee ryan and j.j. vallow that were appropriated after the children were missing. >> reporter: according to court documents and a friend's testimony, the couple espoused doomsday religious beliefs, and

. breaking news out of san jose. there is an active shooting investigation at a light-rail train yard facility. we do not know if anyone is hurt. we do know santa clara sheriff's office is responding. there is a lot of law enforcement in that area as we can see from our live view from chopper 5. we are trying to get more details. we know it's on younger avenue. no word if anyone is hurt. officials have confirmed there's that inve happening right now. an active shooter investigation. we have crews headed to the scene and we are going to update you as soon as we

know more. as we take a look at the royswant to focus on that san jose area. there are closures because of that active shooter. as i zoom in there's a lot of congestion in anda and and around. the freeway is still moving okay in that area but i will zoom out and you can see traffic getting busy out of the south bay as you head along 101 northbound and as you work toward mountain view. there was an accident at 101 near ellis and that's causing a back up. we will keep you updated on that. the rest of your roadway still busy this morning if you are going out of the south bay. again we are going to find out more details but we don't know if anyone is hurt. wew chopr 5 is over the scene right now. a lot of law enforcement in that area. if you look closely you can see police tape surrounding the building in that area as they secure a perimeter. a lot of police cars on one

side of the street. we did see an ambulance earlier from our look from chopper 5. as far as the active shooter situation all we know is that it is being investigated by law enforcement. we are going to take a look at a map so we can give you a closer idea of where this is. as gianna said you can see how close it is to the highway right there. now law enforcement has asked everybody who is trying to get into that area to just stay away. this is an active shooter investigation and so they want everybody to stay out of that area. there are a lot of buildings in the area right there. let's see. if we can see it's a railyard facility. you can see that -- they are kind of focusing on a one of the trains right there 't a lot of yoth

beinouatnn law enforcement their gun drawn. s drawn. we see an ambulance. i can't tell if they put anyone on that ambulance but a lot of people in the area. several agencies have reported to the scene and are helping out with this investigation. they are going to stage some information for the media hopefully very soon so we can get details on what's going on. again, they are telling everybody who needs to be in that area to just stay away as they investigate this active shooter situation. if you are just tuning in, we are live over this light-rail station. this is in san jose. it's a light-rail facility there.

fire trucks, police trucks, ambulance, police cars, s.w.a.t members, they are all there for this investigation. this is a map taking a look at where that is. its right near the highway in that area. association you certainly want to be careful if you are going to drive on that highway and not to have any slowing or looking to just keep going where you are going and to stay away from that area. we are going to take a loot from chopper 5 as they are starting to zoom out a little bit. kind of hard to see with some low lying clouds. it looks like some fog in that area right now as we start to get more detail. . law enforcement officials responding to that scene. as you said, we don't see any guns drawn or high

situation there. it seems pretty calm right now. we are still waiting for the details to confirm in there have been any injuries from that active shooter investigation and if anyone has been taken in to custody. >> it's obvious that multiple agencies have responded to this. look at how many police cars lined up on that street right now. you see a lot of law enforcement just standing in that area as they secure it. a lot of police tape. now we are looking at some tracks and, you know, it be look like whatever happened may have happened in the back of this building or very close to the tracks there. >> it seems like a pretty big area that police have closed off to traffic and once again they are warning people not to come into that particular area.

it's hard to tell if anyone is on that ambulance or they had a gurney out. we are working on details. let's check in with gianna on the traffic situation around that area. obviously the surface streets are going to start getting conguested as they close off the roadways. the

enforcement. it doesn't look like -- it may be a dire situation on what happened earlier but it doesn't look very active at this point as far as -- anyone running or anyone filing out of that building. you know very early in the morning we don't know how many people were at that facility at this time. >> we don't know people were working there or people were commuting in that area. we just don't know a lot at this point in time. we do know it's a busy area. its right by 880. it's an area a lot of people are familiar with. this first happened but haven't given much more details other than an active shooter investigation. >> and chopper 5. chopper 5 is trying to do a good job to show us the scene, to kind of show us what may be going on. you see a lot of law enforcement but it's hard to

tell from there. you see them gathering in to one part of the area as chopper 5 is starting to zoom out now. kind of going away from that. we do know that our crew has arrived at the scene. hopefully we will hear from them shortly. they are just trying that doesn't mean -- you know someone isn't on their right now. >> once again our crew has arrived there. we are told but they are looking for a safe spot to set up. when they get that live shot up we will be able to bring you more information from the ground.

you can see that big heavy police presence and so many areas blocked off right now to traffic. let's check in with gianna for a work around if you are going in that area. >> i will show you a map of a zoomed in portion of this area where this is happening. younger street first near the light-rail facility. there are closures in and around there and we are starting to see back up on surrounding streets so avoid the area if you can. i will tell you what's open. east taylor is open though its busy. it's not far from 880. freeways moving at okay paces though i'm starting to see a back up building from slightly slower speeds along 880 itself in that area. freeways are open. it's surface street was the problems. north surface street to north first street. east heading open but as you see all that red and yellow in that area is really

threat and the facility has been evacuated. i will update as more information becomes available. this is from the mayor saying several people being treated. >> we have seen ambulances in that area. the ambulances have not taken off. we just hope that everybody who has been treated is doing okay. we don't know if there were any more severe injuries or deaths. the shooter is down. we have seen tweets santa clara county sheriff. we want to check back in with gianna and look at the traffic situation in that area. so many streets are now blocked off as police get that going. >> a lot of people heading to work. you can see in the maps this is close to 87 guadalupe parkway and 880 not far from the freeways.

when he with were looking at chopper 5 you could see 880 moving there off in the distance. the freeway is moving at the limit. there's slight slowing on 880. it comes and goes. as far as the closures since it's close to the surface streets there are closures. if you look at the maps all that red and yellow are the portions of closures in effect. first street, younger, third street. parts of heading street as well. looks like most of 4th street may be open but definitely avoid it in the meantime. you can use taylor street as an alternate. a lot of the closures are affecting third street near younger, near first street. all in that pocket near that light-rail facility. as far as the freeways go 880, 87 are open. we aren't seeing any congestion but it could be from the freeway so may cause slowing and that morning commute is in full swing. the closures on that area near younger and first and

will affect surrounding streets. justin said that he was on east heading which is very close to there but that's about a block out. those closures in effect as well. try to avoid that area if you can. we will let you know if anything else shuts down in and around that area and let you know when the lanes open up. obviously a big situation in that area. justin andrews right now and we heard that lynn is on the scene right now and he does have some source that he tweeted about some information from some of his sources. we are hoping to hear from him. >> a live look from chopper 5. a view if you were just joining us. a huge police presence after word of an active shooter. we got word that's shooter is down. there seems to be no threat in the area any longer. we are waiting for more

and younger obviously that's where the incident is happening right now. surrounding streets are also closed as well. that includes parts of heading street. parts of third streets. parts of 4th street. those are closure that are set up in and around that area. yeah this isn't far from 880 or 87 that whole area where the 87 intersection happened. the freeways look good. they are open. we are not seeing any people slowing or anything like that. if you want to use the freeway. if that's an option for the morning commute that may be the best bet. surface streets in anda under are first and young require shut down through there. i'm seeing parts of taylor that are open. that's the possibility, 10th street as well. you can see all that yellow and red just concentrated in the myl of the map. that's where the incident is with the situation and we have a lot of closures. if you can avoid the area until lanes open up. until the investigation is over. until we have more information. that's probably your best bet. these closure also continue for most of the morning and it's the morning commute. a lot of people getting out the

facility kind of in industrial area. a lot of people probably making their which to work and police needed to get them out of there. we have seen some members of law enforcement with their guns out, not drawn, again the shoot serrano longer a threat in that area. what what are you seeing a lot of law enforcement gathering. this is from earlier when they were -- pretty early in to the investigation. we got that word from the mayor that there were several people treated. we haven't received any word about the extent of the injuries. >> in that video we saw about six ambulances lined up but here in our live look from chopper 5 there are about three on the scene. we are trying to get information about any possible victims in they have been taken to the hospital.

if they are being treated on scene and what exactly happened at this light-rail yard facility. >> as we know from covering cases like this, over the years, when something like that happens, the first response from law enforcement is to block off the area because you want to protect the public and want to protection the shooting investigation as well. that's what we are seeing playing out here. it's a big area and the media as well keeping far off. that's where we expect to get more information. >> we have two ground crews right now so they are trying to work on getting more information for us. we do expect more from santa clara sheriff's office in just about five minutes. hopefully we will learn a little more if there were any victims in what went on there ier th morning. reportme in tly after seven this morning of

an achive shooter investigation. again, the mayor tweeting a short time ago that several people are being treated. we don't know in that's on the scene. the shoot serrano longer a treat buzz santa clara county has confirmed the shooter is down. >> lynn is close to the scene. he is just working on getting him to a camera. you are live. you have been receiving information from your sources. what have you heard >> we have multiple sources now confirm that we have multiple victims in this shooting at the vta light-rail yard on younger street in san jose this is all part of the county government center. the vta yard is next to the sheriff's headquarters. we are -- getting ready for a briefing right now. we are waiting for word officially on the number of potential victims, one source earlier today said that there were multiple

sources and we are looking for word officially from the sheriff's department and the san jose police department. this all got started around 6:45 this morning with reports of an ache thankful shooter in the vta light-rail yard. in is where the light-rail trains come and park overnight. not sure what sort of staffing would be on scene. there are multiple agencies. the san jose police department and the county sheriff's department as well as san jose fire and if we can kind of look at the scene right here. one of the aspects that have is that from our sources the shooter committed suicide and so at this point it's more of a recovery situation rather than active shooter. they aren't taking cover. at this point it does look like it'll be a recovery

situation with multiple victims reported here in san jose. back to you. >> yeah. that's what we are talk about. when we saw a look over -- from chopper 5, where there were a few ambulances on the scene but they weren't taking off. that could possibly mean that victims are being treated inside that ambulance on the scene or taken to the hospital or as you said, maybe a recovery activity. >> that's right. there are multiple ambulances here. we can't really see it from our vantage point. with rebeing kept at least a block away here. the fire department is here with multiple trucks. i don't see ambulances from our vantage point at this point. if you can see all the way down the street you see the group of officers and then in the far distance several police cars with lights, that is the entrance to the vta headquarters of the vta light-rail headquarters.

that's a service yard that's where the trains come and park overnight. that is an achive, very active area during a formal commute time. coming out of coronavirus it may be less so than it would normally be during heavy commute times. this is the type of situation that these officers have trained for for a long time and unfortunately this active shooter situation happened here in san jose this morning. we are waiting word on how many victims there are and how many injuries there may have been. one source said that there have been no police officer injuries or casulti, s associated this. >> and beyond the law enforcement presence and of course the media is there anyone else gathered out l that may have been in the area when it went down >> it's hard to tell at this point because when

this got started there are only two roads and they have both about been blocked off. we aren't able to get any closer. traffic may have been backed up on 880, highway 880 which backs up to a cyylone fence on the back side of the light-rail yard. so that may be one vantage point where they may have been in danger or saw something and that area right now is also being covered by the police department as this investigation continues this is going to be a very long and lengthy investigation with multiple ve reawaiting word from official sources here at a podium that was set up just a few minutes ago and we are told we are going to get a briefing at 8:30 from the sheriff's department. >> it's 8:30 now. hopefully we get that information in a moment. while we wait can we get an

idea of what that area is like. we have seen shots from chopper 5 this huge facility yard. many buildings, vta head quarters and is it -- you know is there a neighborhood around there or -- just businesses >> this is the county government center. the district attorney's office is right next to us right here. the main county building is and a large parking lot th sheriff's department is there. next to the vta light-rail station. it's sort of a -- a cul-de-sac area. we are on san pedro street. the other way is on younger street. there's a neighborhood next to younger street across first street. it doesn't appear that anyone neighbors or anything like that was effected by this shooting morning.

>> and for those who may just be joins us give us a break down of what you heard happened so far. >> there was a shooting, a possible shooting and a suicide of the shooter. woe are hearing there are multiple victims associated with this. police and fire as well as the santa clara count a sheriff which appears to be the lead agency in all of this is on scene investigating. does appear that the shooter was somehow taken down. whether it was from person's own hand or not. we are trying to get confirmation but sources said it was a suicide as well as the shooting. the number of victims is still unclear at this point. we just got a -- a little blurb from the sheriff's spokesman saying there are multiple victims here. >> multiple victims on the scene. you know like you said you have

covered situations like this. you talked about the posturing of law enforcement. obviously the -- the threat is no locker there with reports or the report confirmed that the shooter is down. with multiple victims, possible multiple victims, you will get the briefing here. . >> we are waiting to hear from sheriff's county officials to talk about this investigation and what happened there this morning. they are going to give us an update in a moment and let's listen in. >> the public information officer for the santa clara county sheriff's office. good morning everybody. about 6:34 a.m. this morning, santa clara communications center received multiple 911 calls, a

shots fired call. multiple shots fired call in the area of 101. west younger avenue in the city of san jose. this building is a vta control center. transportation authority control center. it's a hub that stores multiple trains and maintenance yard as well. multiple deputies including surrounding law enforcement agencies arrived to the scene for an ache thankful shooter investigation. the information i can tell you now is preliminary. i can confirm that we do have multiple victims and we have multiple casulties. i can't conofficial the exact number injuries and fatilities but they are multiple. this is still an ongoing investigation. we have multiple agencies here helping us out with law enforcement side as long as -- with the county fire side, city fire department and multiple agencies.

multiple victims. >> yeah. this is really the worst case situation when you hear of an ache thankful shooter situation to have it confirmed by law enforcement that you have multiple victims. they have not saying how many victims there are at this point. from the size and scope of the response and the number of investigators here as well as emergency people this is a very serious event. they say this got started a little after six this morning with reports coming into the county communications center of an achive shooter at the vta light-rail yard on younger street in san jose. arriving officers did find a scene, we are told that the shooter possibly committed suicide after committing these several homicides here in san jose. the investigation is just getting started. it'll be a while before we get

any new information but we are told that another briefing will be happening possibly in an hour or so. that from the sheriff's department just a few minutes ago. multiple police agencies as well as san jose police, san jose fire, the sheriff's office are investigating at this point. we have know more in the coming minutes but again as you said, a very uncle situation.

bert is lyyou are eyare to get eye view of what happened. this facility itself, there are a few times it is sort of an office complex and a place where the driver's will, you know, lounge between their shifts before or after their shifts as vta light-rail drivers. there is also a garage type of facility that is a tapped to the light-rail station for services of these vehicles. next to that are multiple, mullible tracks where the vta trains will come in for the night before they would head out again. we have maybe a dozen tracks with lking about fality, probab four to five acres of facility with several buildings attached.

we don't know exactly where this shooting took place. most of the people would probably be associated with that lounge area and/or offices in that complex. >> beyond that complex for those not familiar with that area, describe the area round that facility. we mentioned office buildings as well. we know the sheriff's office is nearby. >> yeah. the vta light-rail train station is kind of wedged between younger street and the 880 freeway on the back side is the 880 freeway. from that you can actually see it as you are going northbound on 880. you can see all the trains that are stacked up there understanding normal times. next to that is the sheriff's department which is just -- its right next door to the vta light-rail station. then across the street is a parking lot for the

county employees and that is becoming the main staging area for all of the police and fire and officers who are coming in to help investigate the case. that parking lot is now the staging area. next to that parking lot is the county government center where the main county building is. the district attorney's office here in santa clara county. that's across the street. we are talking about an attack this morning on one branch of county government center. the vta station. >> we when you were talking about that park lot we were looking at a live look from chopper 5 and saw a long line of police officers. we assume investigators, going into one of the facilities buildings. >> yeah. like i said there's going to be a lot of investigators here. what they are trying to do is look for as much evidence as possible, in terms

county government center. arriving officers found multiple havings as well as what they presume was the shooter who had taken his own life. i say his or her own life. at t the area sealed we don't know about casulties. or what happened to them. we have not seen a lot of ambulances coming in and out of here. its been pretty much what looks like a recovery scene as opposed to an achive shooter scene. the postures of the officer is that the threat is over. the threat is down. they are in a recovery mode looking over and gathering evidence and will be at some point today extracting the bodies. >> it's good news to hear that the threat is over. terrible to just think about the families out there that lost loved ones today.

what is being said. just about eight minutes ago tweeted our hears are pained for the families of those we are lost in this horrible shooting. the shooter is dead and more information will be provided later and we are expecting that information hopefully around 9:30. >> yeah. once again when all of this went down of course the big question was is the public in danger with this active shooter. the shoot certify dead but not confirms this that suspect was shot by law enforcement or if that person took their own life. we know the shooter is down and there is no long ernie threat to the surrounding area. >> no threat and as lynn said this is a not only the investigation as to what happened but also a recovery mission. especially when you talk about multiple casulties. investigators on the roof of though facility in the parking lot of that facility
