good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. we begin this morning with the g7 summit which kicks off in england. president biden and other global leaders will outline their plan to donate at least one billion covid vaccine shots to countries in need. mr. biden and british prime minister johnson had their first face-to-face meeting yesterday. they affirmed the alliance between the u.s. and uk and signed a revised version of the atlantic charter. ian lee is live in london. a busy day on tap for mr. biden. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. that's right. there's a lot to discuss including a global minimum corporate tax rate, how to tackle climate change. president biden is also expected to try to convince allies to take a tougher stance on china. and of course, confronting the coronavirus pandemic. the g7 nations are donating one billion vaccines to the rest of

the world. >> we're doing this to save lives, to end this pandemic. that's it. period. >> reporter: the u.s. is leading the way with 500 million doses of pfizer's vaccine. >> 100 leand lower middle-income countries, they will be the beneficiaries. >> reporter: french president macron said the european union must have the same ambition as the united states. his country is donating 30 million doses by the end of the year. the united kingdom will add 100 million. the seven wealthy nations are expected to outline their commitments later today as the summit officially begins. >> everybody's absolutely thrilled to see you. >> reporter: president biden received a warm welcome from british prime minister boris johnson on thursday. >> there's so much they want to do with us from security, nato, to climate change. and it's fantastic. it's a breath of fresh air. >> reporter: as the biden administration looks to re-establish america's role as a

global leader, first lady jill biden wore this message on her jacket. >> i think that we're bringing love from america. i think that's important now that people feel a sense of unity from all the countries and feel a sense of hope after this year of the pandemic. >> reporter: the first lady said she and her husband are looking forward to meeting queen elizabeth on sunday and insists president biden is overprepared for his meeting with russian president vladimir putin next week. anne-marie, president biden has a tailwind heading into his first overseas trip. the image of the united states around the world has sharply improved since he took office. according to a recent pew research poll, confidence in america went from 17% under president trump to 75% under president biden while the favorability of the u.s. jumped from 34% to 62%. >> well, that is quite a leap. ian lee in london. thank you so much. so breaking overnight, the justice department under former

president trump seized data from at least two democratic members of the house intelligence committee. cbs news confirmed the doj subpoenaed apple in 2017 and 2018 for information as it was trying to find the source of news leaks about trump associates in russia. it targeted at least two committee members, aides, and family members including a minor. among those whose records were seized, democratic representatives eric swalwell and adam schiff. schiff who is now the panel's chair is calling for an investigation along with other democrats. in a statement, schiff said "the politicization of the department and the attacks on the rule of law are among the most dangerous assaults on our democracy carried out by the former president." the subpoenas did not turn up anything relevant. both the justi depcetment and apple have not commented. authorities are searching for a motive in a deadly supermarket shooting in florida. it happened yesterday morning

at a publix in royal palm beach. a man shot and killed a grandmother and her 1-year-old grandson before fatally shooting himself. authorities say the shooter pulled out a gun in the produce aisle. witnesses describe a frantic scene after the gunshots rang out. >> one worker, a publix worker, said hey, hey, run, run, run. shooting, shooting, shooting. >> as i was about 100 feet from the doors, everyone started coming out yelling "active shooter, shots fired. get out. get out." >> the sheriff's office says there is no known relationship between the shooter and victims. pennsylvania police are looking for a man in connection with a series of explosions at his townhouse that led to a massive fire. it started when a code enforcement officer went to the man's home near philadelphia for an inspection yesterday. he allegedly pulled out a gun and threatened the officer. additional officers arrived and engaged with the man before he

went back in his home. that's when a series of blasts were heard. the fire spread to at least two other homes. it's unclear if the man's body is in the rubble. and there is some concern this morning when it comes to covid and vaccinating young adults. new research shows a possible link between the vaccine and rare cases of heart inflammation. nikki battiste explains. >> reporter: the race to vaccinate. the fda announcing it will extend the expiration date for the johnson & johnson vaccine by six weeks. for parents nationwide, there's a mixture of worry and hope. a drop of more than 50% in new covid cases among kids last week compared to the week before. mderna applied for emergency use authorization for its vaccine in children as young as 12. new data shows a possible link between a second dose of the covid-19 vaccine and myocarditis

and d introducining jelly bes with two t times more e biot. the wife of the mexican drug kingpin known as el chapo pleaded guilty to federal charges in the u.s. of helping her husband run his multibillion dollar drug empire. emma coronel espuiro appeared in federal court yesterday to plead guilty to three charges as part of a plea deal. she's facing more than a decade in prison when she's sentenced in september. el chapo is serving a life sentence in colorado. the first muslim federal judge in the u.s. was confirmed, and there are disturbing accusations against a football coach. those are some of the headlines on the "morning newsstand." the "associated press" reports the son of legendary university of michigan football coach bo schembechler and two former players say the coach knew they were being molested by the longtime doctor. yesterday the 62-year-old matt

schembechler and two players said that they were among hundreds abused by dr. robert anderson. anderson worked at the school for nearly 40 years. he died in 2008. matt said that he was just 10-years-old when the abuse started. he said when he told his father, his dad became violent. >> he screamed, "i don't want to hear this. i'm not hearing this." i tried to tell him repeatedly, but my effort earned me a punch in the chest. >> a report commissioned by the school found that bo schembechler and others were aware of complaints against dr. anderson but he was allowed to remain at the university. bo died in 2016. -- in 2006. "the washington post" says the senate confirmed the first muslim federal judge in american history. the senate voted 83-16 to approve his nomination to the u.s. district court in new jersey. karashi is currently a u.s. magistrate judge. he also worked as a federal prosecutor, a military

latest report released yesterday. the dow added 19 points, the nasdaq rallied 108 points, and the s&p 500 was also up 19 points, setting a new closing record. a bipartisan group of senators reached a deal on infrastructure. multiple sources tell cbs news the group's plan includes a $579 billion in new spending over five years. the plan is focused on physical infrastructure and does not include tax increases. democrats and republicans also appear to be coming together on how to pay for the plan. a major point of contention during talks. the biden administration says it has been briefed on the plan but questions remain. say good-bye to american airlines' in-flight magazine. the june issue of "american way" will be the air carrier's very last. american stopped publishing the backseat read during the pandemic and decided against bringing it back. dedelta and southwest already canceled their magagazines. experts say the airlines are

regularly as chief legal analyst. south africa is investigating a woman's claim that she gave birth to a record ten babies. a newspaper in the capital of peoria -- rather, pretoria, says the woman and her husband claim she gave birth to the babies prematurely on monday. it would be the world's first recorded case of decuplets. the seven boys and three girls have not been seen publicly or captured on camera. the father says the babies were delivered in a hospital, but officials say there's no record of the babies' birth at any hospital. and a dog's devotion to its sick owner was on full display. a woman's golden retriever tried to get on an ambulance as she was being put on board. the medical personnel refused to allow the dog to get on. but that did not stop it. as she was being driven to the hospital, the dog followed the ambulance all the way there. the owner was taken inside while the dog patiently waited outside.

the subpoenas did not turn up anything relevant. the cost of living is on the rise, and so are fears of inflation. the labor department says consumer prices jumped 5% in may from a year earlier. that is the biggest gain in nearly 13 years. here's carter evans. >> reporter: with inflation hitting the grocery store, kenneth weinstein had to figure out ways to stretch his dollars. >> you learn to make due. i never used to eat ramen noodles, but now probably two, three times a week. >> reporter: nationwide, shoppers are paying more. whole milk up more than 7% from a year ago. citrus fruit up 9%. bacon, 13%. when you see prices rise this quick, does it concern you? >> if it continues to rise this quickly yes. but we don't expect that to be the case. >> reporter: ucla senior economist leo feller says many companies are still recovering from pandemic-related shortages. at the same time, many americans are flush with stimulus cash.
