less than 30 laps to go. 27 to go in this one. the local driver who gets to race with the superstars, doug coby, is out ahead of this field. greg biffle second, tony stewart third. right across the top of the screen. who has what left to make a run? it tony stewart been saving something, trying to let loose soon? has coby used up too much? we will find out. next week, it is onto something completely different. another halfil-m track, but a dirt surface instead of paved. knoxville raceway in iowa. next saturday night at 8:00 here on cbs. talk about putting some people out of their comfort zone. oh, boy. it will be a great show. >> danica: i remember the first time tony asked me to do "prelude to the dream" at a track that he owns, and i reluctantly said yes. i kind of felt like i had to because he was my bus -- >> allen: your bus, yep. >> danica: i'm going to be

really honest beer if i did not practice at all because i wanted to have the excuse that i did not practice. that is why i sucked. >> allen: [laughs] >> danica: because i could not -- not in my comfort zone, but i did it. >> allen: how did it work out? >> danica: i crashed. >> allen: okay. >> danica: you crash in something like that, i put it out of my mind. >> allen: seriously, for some of these drivers, they have never raced on dirt in their life. marco andretti got in a friend's open wheel car on a dirt track after the racing had all finished for the night and everybody had left, to get a few laughs on dirt because he had never done it before. this was a wild back. ernie francis jr. went to a local track in south florida last saturday night. these guys are trying to figure it out, that should be a great show next saturday night. >> danica: speaking of ernie francis jr., he is the only thing that stands between marco and castroneves right now. i mean, maybe my dream can come true.
7:02 pm
maybe we will have another -- what do we call that? a friendly fun flag? maybe we get another fun flag with 20ish to go. not sure how that will go, but i think that -- i think biffle's got something for coby. >> allen: i'm still keeping an eye on stewart in the orange car. >> danica: from what i've seen from smoke is even from the first heat, it seems like his car comes on more and more as the race goes on. and he is hanging in there. >> allen: he is hanging in. and again, that 20 laps will go by in a hurry that are left to go in this race, but a lot can change in 20 laughs. 20 laps. what a dream so far for doug coby at the head of this field for tony stewart, one of the founders of this series. tony was the one that did a lot of calling around to drivers and saying "hey, you need to come do
7:03 pm
this," and what tony said this was all about was being able to have drivers show their personalities, have fun, take a lot of the things that championship racing, i'll call it, when you are competing for a series title at the big times, kind of... have difficulty in doing. >> danica: the fun factor out of it -- it gets very serious. >> allen: we can put cameras in places that may be, if you are racing for one team against another, they won't let you. >> danica: sure. there's times where you have a helmet cam, and sometimes as a driver you don't want that burden of having a camera. sometimes you also don't want them to see the tack to see what temperatures are being run, they are all kinds of games that get played. >> allen: sure. all these drivers are here to have fun, but they are all here to win, also, and the one that is in command of this one as we get down to the final 15 laps is doug coby. this is a guy who won his first
7:04 pm
championship at stafford back in 2000 in a full fender car -- >> 15 to go, 1-5. >> danica: you know, as i local cross the lap times, you see coby and biffle, biffle was .4 quicker on the last, but that when they matched each other, so i'm not sure... not sure if maybe coby is setting the pace now. >> allen: wanted to get in the lead and control the race. at the end of the second heat he said he used up a little of his car to get to the front. he has managed the gap greg biffle as we get to the closing laps. >> danica: one of the things you can have as an advantage for a guy like coby who has been here so many times and has 10,000 laps here is that you really as a driver start to identify the little things on the track that can help you, if you are tight, if you are loose. i know that was something in cup that i would be so grateful for
7:05 pm
from drivers when they would pass along a little information here and they are, and what i would learn it for myself like, oh, man, if i hit the seam a little tight to turn, things like that. coby is going to know every square inch of this track to help them to the furthest extent, more than those who have not been here before. >> allen: coming up to paul tracy, remember tracy's car damaged in an incident early in the night. >> danica: does not look comfortable. >> allen: he has been struggling to keep it between the walls. the leader is behind cleanly and without incident. greg biffle trying to keep the pressure on. >> danica: keep in mind they don't have spotters. that moment, if you have a spotter, somebody telling paul tracy that traffic is behind him, but he does not have that. it looks like he is having to hang on for dear life anyway. these are things that normally, you would see, perhaps, a different way of acting around
7:06 pm
cars, but they are out there on their own. >> allen: steward, bobby labonte third and fourth, wearing some of the lap traffic, as well, does not seem he is going to catch up with helio castroneves. let's talk about this guy up front, 41 years old, six time nascar modified tour champion. the only driver to win four consecutive titles in that division, and the meaning of this to him, he felt the burden of representing all the guys that raced at all these local tracks, not just at stafford, but all over the country, trying to represent them well tonight. and then he'd look at you and say, by the way, i want to win. because that is what racers do. he wants to win. he will make a lot of fans happy. he is giving up part of a chance at his championship because his race car is racing tonight in upstate new york with another
7:07 pm
driver behind the wheel. he gave that up and compromised his chance to win his series championship to be here tonight and compete against these guys. >> danica: you think it added more fuel to the fire, or that he was racing guys like biffle, stewart, labonte -- >> allen: caution. caution, a car throwing sparks, is that marco andretti? >> danica: looks like the black car. yes, it is. guys, this is the dream come true. six to go! >> coming in. >> danica: blew a tire? he had some bodywork damage just behind that right front. you can see where the flap is back, right where it says camping world, that has been flapped back the whole time. i don't know if that is any part of what could have been going on underneath or if perhaps there is a lot of bodywork damage on the front, i don't know if he
7:08 pm
caught the wall earlier that we -- you laps earlier we did not see. >> allen: that tire is locked up. wow, that is different. >> danica: are not the best technical girl, but i can say what i would say on the radio right now, the right fron, slow turn, locked up. >> allen: i don't know what it is, but it is real important. 's all right, this changes everything, caution out inside the final five laps. srx crew will go and have a look. >> danica: they managed to get it off, so it was not something that burned or melted in there. probably bodywork. who knows, debris. he could have driven over something, too. >> allen: they will have a good look before they send markel out there to go back up to speed. >> danica: cut that off, we don't need that hanging. it took me until i raced nascar
7:09 pm
until asked me what they saw was. >> allen: you do not use that an indycar. >> danica: you don't, not a lot of coming back from bodywork damage in indycar. got some on board to listen to. went right to the rim. >> allen: possibility to set some of the damage on the right front, the cooling was effective. all kind of things that could've happened, and we will find out after the race is over, but right now we are doubling up and getting ready to go back racing in one more lap. and so, lookee here, greg biffle to doug coby's outside and tony stewart on his back bumper, bobby labonte on the outside of row number two. and we will have a sprint to the
