of the weather. >> we can see san jose fine. it is hazy down here. we are not looking at overcast skies for the south bay. we are for much of the immediate bay. cooler air today because of this. for everybody the currents right now are in the 50s everywhere you go with the exception of san francisco. a relatively 60 in santa rosa. a typically cool upper 40s. as far as the rest of the day goes, we will warm up to 90. so much better than what we have been doing for the last several days. the cool down has really set in in earnest. developing this morning, a shooting this oakland last night sent a huge crowd running during a juneteenth celebration. one person was killed, five others were injured. we have the latest details from oakland. >> police sat down lake shore a new

a -- avenue for six hours to conduct their investigation. >> oakland police and witnesses say more than 1,000 people were on lake shore avenue. many were celebrating the juneteenth holiday when gunfire broke out. you can see in the surveillance video people ran for safety after they heard the gunshots. >> people in front of me started running away from me towards the gazebo. i turned around, like 300 people were running at me. i sort of stepped into the bush with my dog. and they kind of ran around me. >> some people and a parent pushed the stroller into a nearby garage to get away from the shooting. >> i thought it was maybe a fireworks. >> after the large crowd cleared out of the the scene, police placed 31 evidence markers on the ground near the intersection of lake shore and brooklyn avenues. oakland police say six people were shot from 16 years told 27 years old. a 22-year-old man died. a cellphone video shows people

helping a woman who was shot. >> i pray she will make it to the hospital. she ain't okay. she is bleeding a lot. please, lord, let her make it to the hospital. >> police say they were already in the area doing traffic control when the shooting happened around 6:20 people. >> they saw a suspect running northbound whom they took into custody with a firearm. it ultimately led to two suspects being taken into custody. >> they are still looking into the motive and whether it was shootout between two suspects. >> we are encouraging the community partner with us and give us their support. >> police are asking anyone with cellphone video or surveillance video of the shooting to come forward. >> lets have an era of cultural sensitivity because this act of violence has nothing to do with black or brown people but rather policy. the policy to allow people to

obtain, purchase and carry firearm and not be responsible human beings to own one. >> police say the five victims -- [ indiscernible ] back to you. >> for all the latest updates head to our website kpix.com. we are learning a former uc davis student who vanished in russia has been found dead. police say 34-year-old's katherine's body was found. she moved there to study law at a russian university. investigators say she was last seen on tuesday after getting into a car. her mother said her daughter sent her a text message expressing alarm because she was in that car with a stranger. no word on a motive for the killing or how she died.

in a statement uc davis said we are saddened to hear about the death. our thoughts are with her family and friends during this extremely difficult time. to southern california. a violent arrest caught on video. the chefs deputy involved has been taken off duty after security camera video appeared to show him kicking a suspect in the head. reporter candice has details. >> this video was alarming. it all started when officers tried to pull the suspect over for a traffic violation. check out this video obtained by tmz. it was shot by a camera from a nearby toyota dealership in victorville. it shows the suspect getting out from under a car. investigators say that he was hiding in a parking lot after leading deputies on a high-speed chase and then ditching his motorcycle. you can see him slouch over as he makes his way past a couple of parked cars. eventually he's confronted by a deputy with a flashlight. well the suspect complies, puts his hands in the air, gets on

the ground and that is when the deputy kicks the man in the head twice. in a statement under sheriff shannon admit as use of force occurred. >> we know the community's trust is the platform which enables us to do our jobs. the deputy involved in this incident was immediately taken off duty and placed on administrative leave. a criminal investigation is being conducted. this investigation will be submitted to the district attorney. >> a security company that monitors the parking lot was the one who alerted victorville police about the video. the suspect has been identified as 33-year-old willy jones. he was checked out by medics and has since been released on bail. >> the suspect has been booked on the charge of felony evading after reportedly failing to stop

at multiple traffic signals. a deadly crash at the start of a pride parade in south florida. authorities say the driver of a pickup truck slammed into spectators killing one man and injuring others. it happened just before 7:00 p.m. local time on saturday at willton manners. a senior official has told cbs news early indications are that the crash was an accident. the official went on to say the driver reportedly told police that his foot became stuck between the gas pedal and the brake causing him to lose control of the truck. >> we can confirm that two people were injured as a result of this incident. both males were transported to broward health medical center where one was pronounced deceased. the other male is expected to survive. >> the truck narrowly missed hitting the congresswoman. there were lots of juneteenth celebrations across the bay area this week to commemorate the end

of slavery in our country. hundreds of people gathered at the fifth annual juneteenth festival. this was the first time they got to celebrate it as a national holiday. till then memory was kept alive by the african-american community. event goers say now more people understand why it is so important and we are celebrating. >> with all that has gone on, we are really being lifted up so that the nation, the world sees our contributions and that truly blacks matter. >> americans across the country also celebrated juneteenth. in milwaukee thousands of people kicked off the day in a huge parade. in fort worth, texas, hundreds went on a 2 and a half mile mark. in washington d.c. people celebrated with marches and live bands entertaining the crowds. the time now is 6:08.

looking live at san francisco where many were out and about. kpix 5 was out enjoying the saturday night in chinatown. >> [music playing] the sounds of the piano and people socializing filled the lounge at lion's den. people can pack indoor bars and clubs yet again and masks will no long before mandated for vaccinated people. >> it is not like slam all of a sudden lines out the door. on a thursday night we were doing really well. the coolest thing she we could bring our bar stools back to the bar. we were not allowed during covid to have anybody dance. everybody had to have a seat. >> there are no capacity limits anymore but the service industry

is still hurting for workers. >> the problem is getting staffing. that is the big issue right now. right now all of the entertainment clubs are open. they are all looking. it is very hard. >> on broadway there was a line for a table. it is seeing the return of locals and tourists to almost pre-pandemic levels. >> we have had so many guests mention to us on the way in the door that they chose san francisco because we had such a high vaccination rate and we were doing a great job as a community. >> china alive said its recently added 48 more seats to accommodate guests. >> it is so nice to be in a restaurant and hear the buzz of the city. >> we are just so grateful to see everybody walking our way everyday. to see chinatown coming back. >> not all businesses have been fortunate enough to make it this far. >> i work down in the financial district. it was hard to walk past kerne and all of the lunch spots and

my coffee shop. i showed my kids the coffee shop i go boarded up closed. video this morning after rescue mission in napa county. a helicopter was called to the park on saturday where rescue crews hoist add mountain biker who fell 50-feet down a ravine. the biker was flown to the hospital . we are also learning a chp helicopter rescued a woman stuck between two rocks. rescue swimmers responded last night calling for the helicopter to rescue her. she was also transported to a trauma center. on the fire watch, an update on the willow fire. the blaze has grown to more than 2,000 acres sending blooms of smoke over the moment ray -- monterrey bay. no buildings have burned so far.

the terrain is so rugged it is almost inaccessible to ground crews. cal fire is aggressively fighting the flames with air tankers. crews have established a base camp in king city. hundreds are under evacuation orders over 300 firefighters are tackling the blaze. the smoke is expected to reach the bay area. a two acre blaze burned close to commercial buildings in fair field yesterday. firefighters posted this video of the flames consuming a field of dry brush around 11:00 a.m. the fire burned off of highway 12 just south of watney way. luckily crews knocked it down before it spread to any buildings or vehicles. we will take a look ahead to future cast to show you that ploom of smoke coming off the fire. let's get to the forecast first. that is the view from our roof look back at the bay bridge.

it is gray out there. it is not over here. that is looking at lafayette. you are looking right up highway 24. gorgeous sunshine here. that is the way it looks for a good part of the inland bay area. you can see a little bit of stratuses come over the hills. in san jose you are waking up to clear skies. it is hazy but you don't have the mid level clouds. it is 56 degrees for san jose. 58 in concord and a cool 48 for santa rosa. there is san francisco at 60. interesting map this morning when you take a look at where the excessive heat warnings exist. it is almost as if you have taken a big bite out of it right here. that and ran come. you can -- is not random. it takes that little bite of the the excessive heat warning. plenty way of stratus cloud here

from the on shore flow. it is clear in the south bay. we have a little bit of it trying to creep over into the east bay. by the way there is the block of smoke coming off the willow fire. the higher the concentration of smoke -- deeper the red. as long as that fire continues to burn, and put smoke into the atmosphere, it will drift our way. the question is how much smoke does it put into the air? that is the question really. if it puts enough in the atmosphere will try to bring it our way. it still remains to be seen how much smoke will become off that fire today. there is the forecast looking past the 6-day and 7-day forecasts. we are going to see a higher likelihood of warmer than average temperatures. you will see that begin to show up again as we get towards the end of the 7-day forecast working into friday and saturday. the temperatures will start climbing on us. before i get into

-- the 7-day. we will go to 90 in campbell and san jose. we will hit 85 in mountain view. redwood city goes to 86. we get over into the inland valleys of the east bay and this is where we are only going to 90. for most places you still have to go to 92 in pittsburgh and 94 in livermore. the entire corridor up and down 680 only goes 90. it will be a warm 95 in nevado. only 83 in santa rosa. there are the low 100s that still show up for -- nice cool down till we get to friday and saturday. once we get to friday and saturday that is when the temperatures will climb again. doesn't look too bad at this point but this is that warmer than average where you see the 94 showing up for next weekend.

the san francisco sea lions. ronald doubled off of alex wood. he brought in a come of runs. the phillies took the lead. bottom of the inning brandon bell splash hit into cove and tied the game at 6. that was it for the giants offense. here came the phillies. they retook the lead in the 6th. that scored another run. 8-6 phillies. next inning again a three run job. he a career high six rbi in the game. phillies won it 13-6. guy little dugout for the a's at the giants yesterday. several -- seven in a row. they led 4-1.

sunlight on the buildings downtown. it is hazy but at least you are not looking at the gray that has much of the immediate bay covered. here is another look looking right up highway 24. we will take a look at the forecast. current numbers have us around 60 in most locations. 90 for inland locations, that is it w. 90 is still above average but it is better than where we have been. now to an update on a story we first brought you yesterday. 60 people were displaced from their homes in san francisco after a fire tore through a six story apartment building. wilson walker spoke to residents who jumped into action to help their neighbors escape. >> somebody came my door. bang, bang, bang. fire, fire. >> there was black smoke. we could tell there was a lot of heat coming off the 4th floor.

>> when i opened the front door it was nothing but black smoke. i couldn't go down the stairs in the building. i had to go out the window. >> with the fire quickly spreading most of the building residents went racing for the first escape they could find. some however would not be able to make it out on their own. >> we have a lot of para mreejic people in the building. i went into rescue mode and started banging on doors. >> y'all carried him out? >> yes, sir. the only stairwell is in the middle of the building. it is very steep and it was like -- not engulfed but there was stuff raining down the stairwell. >>. >> came downstairs. >> outside paul hickman encountered the man who lives in the unit where the fire is thought to have possibly started. >> he said my hands are on fire.

>> most residents were unharmed. some were clearly still shaken after they made their way to safety. >> they are just nervous, traumatized by what is happening. it is like really scary. out of nowhere the fire started. >> my whole apartment is burned. i have no clothes. i have nothing. the only clothes on my back. >> there is some hope the bottom three floors are not badly damaged and everyone is grateful this wasn't much more costly. >> i feel good i'm alive and everybody is safe. that is the main thing. >> if there is another bit of good news it is the building is owned by the corporation so they are already working to relocate tenants into other available units. back to you. >> developing this morning, three children were injured after gunfire broke out in an outdoor birthday party in canada. one of the victims is just a baby, a year old.

the shooting happened last night. a 23-year-old man was also injured. right now their conditions are unknown. as for the motive, a police inspector staid children were not targeted. juneteenth is a time for celebration and a time for reflection. it is an opportunity to reflect that while slavery ended, discrimination and racial violence did not. cbs skylar henry has more on this weekend's celebrations around the country. >> from dancing in the nation's capitol, to a parade in galveston, americans across the country are celebrating june -- juneteenth. the first federal holiday since martin luther king jr. day was declared in 1983. >> i they connection to the past is what we really have done well

the u.s. population is fully vaccinated. that is around 149 mill whereon people. the cdc also says the current pace of having a nations in the u.s. is about 1.3 million doses per day. in california more than 19 million people are roughly vaccinated. partial having a nations cover an additional 3.5 million. about 10% of the state's population. americans are enjoying a father's day weekend with fewer covid restrictions but president biden is emphasizing the pandemic is not over yet. michael george has the latest. >> father's day is especially poignant for jeff sweat of los angeles who nearly died of covid-19 over the winter. through and think we don't take for granted being together anymore. >> the 49-year-old father of three said goodbye to his family on a zoom call from his hospital bed. >> we came so close to losing him. i think we should take keeping

him as a gift. >> about 65% of eligible american adults have had at least one covid vaccine dose. president biden's goal is for 70% by july 4th. >> on july 4th we will celebrate our independence from the virus as we celebrate our independence of our nation. we want everyone, everyone to be able to do that. >> only 15 states in the district of columbia have surpassed that 70% threshold. many remain far behind, especially in the deep south. as vaccination rates decline, the fast spreading and more contagious delta variant first detected in india is now found in 49 states. a recent study found one dose of the pfizer vaccine is only about 33% effective against delta variant while both doses offer about 88% protection. >> the millions of people who have only gotten one dose are at risk.

the storm dumped heavy rain as it moved through the southwest yesterday. this is what is left behind after a tornado hit alabama. drone footage shows the splirnted remains of homes and schools. you can see trucks jumbled in that debris along with trees toppled by high winds. at least 50 buildings were either damaged or completely destroyed. this storm first made landfall in louisiana early yesterday morning leaving entire neighborhoods flooded. check out the inside of this home this sdell. going to start out with a pretty view this morning to show you how extensive the marine layer has been for a good part of the immediate bay. this is the camera that sits up on mount tam. it is looking out towards the east. you get a gorgeous view from

here. it is real pretty to watch the last 15 minutes of this as the cloud surge on shore. let me give you another view outside. of course if you are inland you have clear skies at this point in the day starting out kwies nicely. an over knew on the marine layer will give us the best idea on how widespread it is. you see most of the south bay here is looking up at relatively sunny skies. livermore you are looking at clear skies. north bay you are waking up to some gray. we are get into plenty of sunshine. lets take a look at the daytime highs underneath the sunshine that the majority of plus have within the next hour or two. we will go to the low 90s to day. 90 in campbell. we will top out at 95 in

fremont. redwood city goes to 86. only going to 90 for the majority of these locations. walnut creek in the upper 80s already. it will still be 94 in livermore. we will top out in the mid 70s for much of the east bay shoreline and we are back to the mid 80s as we climb farther into moraine. nevado 85 today. san rafael 82. similar numbers to that for santa rosa. we will top out in the mid 80s there. if we look at the long range pattern, there is a warm up coming. so when we get to the 7-day forecast in a moment there is really good news. for the first half of this week -- today looks good. still a little warmer than average. monday, tuesday and wednesday will be great. cooler temperatures. we will see daytime highs in the upper 70s. as we look past the first half

of this week and go out into the long range the 6 to 10 day forecast now we are starting to look into the early part of next week. there is a high degree of confidence of warmer temperatures coming back. low 80s sound great. 82 on tuesday. 81 on wednesday. the bay doesn't go through a lot of change here. you can definitely see an upswing in the pattern as we get to the second half of the 7-day forecast. warmer numbers coming back. back to you. for nearly two decades kpix has been telling the story of students rising above scholars and their amazing achievements. we have never been part of the story until now. we received a surprise e-mail
