it was one week ago this morning a florida highrise condominium collapsed trapping residents inside. today president biden will visit the scene of the deadly disaster. his visit comes as the death toll jumps to 18. rescue crews pulled four more bodies out of the layers of debris and twisted metal including two children. this as officials announce federal experts and outside specialists will gather materials to determine what caused the collapse. laura podesta is tracking the latest details. laura, what's on the agenda for mr. biden's visit when he heads to surfside? >> reporter: good morning. according to the president's public schedule, he will be landing in miami around 9:30 this morning heading straight to the collapse site to be briefed by officials, then he'll be talking to rescuers and family members of the victims before delivering a public address this afrnn. the death toll continues to climb in surfside, florida. now one week since the horrific building collapse.

>> it is also with great sorrow, real pain that i have to share with you that two of these were ildrened 4 and 10. the bodies of their parents, marcus guara and anaely rodriguez were also recovered. >> any loss of life, especially given the unexpected, unprecedented nature of this event is a tragedy. but the loss of our children is >> reporter: search crews working in 12-hour shifts continued to dig through the rubble hoping they might find survivors. >> the chances are low. we don't hide it from the families. we do believe that we can find lives, and we hope to get it. >> reporter: indiana's task force one are headed south to help. >> ohio, pennsylvania, new jersey, the four teams will go down in anticipation of

relieving those that have been working on the pile for several days now. >> reporter: today president biden and first lady jill biden will travel to surfside and visit the families and first responders. >> our hearts are broken for the families. >> reporter: crews have managed to build a ramp that should allow the use of heavier equipment. it's expected to help them open up new pockets of space to search. and rescuers are concerned that their work could hit major hurdles with two storms churning in the atlantic. one of them is forecast to be tropical storm elsa, and that's expected to hit florida early next week. anne-marie? >> laura podesta in new york. thank you so much, laura. well, breaking overnight, a manhattan grand jury has indicted the trump organization and its top executive in connection with tax-related offenses. sources tell cbs news the specific charges against the organization long managed by former president trump are expected to be unsealed today.

allen weisselberg, the company's cfo, is also expected to be indicted with tax-related charges. he's expected to turn himself in to be arraigned today. this morning, bill cosby is free after his sexual assault conviction was overturned. the actor and comedian was released from prison yesterday after spending nearly three years behind bars. cosby was convicted in 2018 of drugging and molesting temple university employee andrea constand. pennsylvania's highest court overturned that ruling. jericka duncan has more on the stunning reversal. >> reporter: as he arrived home, bill cosby flashed a v for victory with his conviction overturned after nearly three years behind bars. pennsylvania's supreme court threw out the 83-year-old comedian's 2018 sexual assault conviction on a technicality. >> demonstrated that they were

-- weren't impervious to the court of public opinion which the lower courts were not. >> reporter: he was served up to ten years for drugging and sexual assaulting andrea constand at his home a decade earlier. she was a sports administrator. the high court said cosby should never have been charged because a former district attorney made a deal with him. in exchange for testimony in a civil case brought by constand, cosby would not face criminal charges. in a strongly worded 79-page opinion, the court ruled that cosby had been denied a fair trial. in an off camera interview, cosby told cbs news that this is about sending a message around the world that what happened to him was unjust, and he said now justice has been served. >> it did not vindicate bil cosby's conduct, and it should not be interpreted as a statement or a finding that he did not engage in the acts of which he has been accused.

>> reporter: the actor's 1980s "cosby show" star phylicia rashad faced backlash after tweeting that a terrible wrong is being righted, later writing that she fully supports sexual assault victims coming forward. reporting from elkins park, pennsylvania, jericka duncan, cbs news. >> jericka went inside cosby's home theaterly after he arrived for a conversation with him. you can hear what he told her coming up on "cbs this morning." and also on "ctm," we will talk with one of his accusers to get her reaction to cosby's release. a judge has denied britney spears' request to have her father removed from her conservatorship at least for now. new court documents reveal the judge denied a month' old request by the pop star's attorney to remove jamie spears as her sole conservator. the documents are not in direct response to last week's hearing when spears pleaded for her dad's removal, calling the

conservatorship abusive. the judge cannot make any ruling based on what the singer said in court last week until she files a petition to terminate her conservatorship. turning to the deadly and historic heat wave baking the pacific northwest. officials in oregon say at least 60 people have died in the extreme heat. more than a dozen deaths have also been linked to the scorching temperatures in washington state. meantime, the mercury is expected to dip in the northeast today after a sweltering heat wave. michael george reports. >> reporter: children in new york city cooled off in spray parks wednesday as temperatures soared. one woman used an umbrella to shade herself from the sun. >> stay inside. it's terrible. it's just muggy and unbearable. >> i'm over it. >> reporter: air continuing service crews have been working around the clock. >> i'm tired. >> reporter: here in new york, it's not just the heat, it's the humidity. public pools like these are a

[ horns ] the blast happened yesterday as

it allows them to profit from endorsements without jeopardizing their eligibility, and it comes as laws permitting college athletes to earn money go into effect today in more than a dozen states. the "seattle times" says a washington state lawmaker is causing controversy after wearing a yellow star of david to protest coronavirus vaccine mandates. state republican representative jim walsh wore the star on his shirt during a speech last weekend to conservative activists. during the holocaust, nazis forced jews to wear yellow stars. a local holocaust education leader said walsh's decision to wear the star was deeply offensive. and our new york station wcbs says a day after the board of elections apologized for giving out wrong numbers in the democratic primary for mayor, it released revised numbers. ballots are being tabulated using the ranked choice voting system allowing people to rank up to five candidates.

york stock exchange with those stories and more. good morning, diane. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. stock futures are indicating a mostly higher open after the three major indices closed out the quarter at or near record highs following a june rally powered by tech stocks. the dow rallied 210 points yesterday. the nasdaq fell 24 while the s&p 500 added 5, logging its fifth straight record close. ford is making some significant cuts to vehicle production in north america this month. company officials say it's due to an ongoing shortage of semiconductor chips impacting the global market. the move will affect eight plants including six in the u.s. for different periods of time running into early august. the cuts are the latest for ford which said earlier this year it expected to lose about half its vehicle production in the second quarter due to the chip issue. amazon's carbon footprint grew last year. mp a 1 increase in its carbon emins

governor greg abbott. a california woman who falsely accused a black teenager of taking her cell phone inside a new york hotel is now facing felony hate crime charges. surveillance video from last december shows 22-year-old miya ponsetto getting into a physical confrontation with 14-year-old keyon harrold jr. she was arraigned yesterday in manhattan. she pleaded not guilty to charges including second-degree unlawful imprisonment as a hate crime. in a january interview with "cbs this morning's" gayle king, she defended herself. >> i was approaching the people that had been in because in my mind anybody exiting is probably the one that -- might be the one that is trying to steal my phone. i admit, yes, i could have approached the situation differently. >> ponsetto's phone was found in an uber after she accused the teenager of taking it. so coming up on "cbs this morning," we will talk with dax shepard and monica padman, host

>> reporter: officials say the teen suffered a hand injury and was airlifted to harvard ucla medical center to undergo surgery. >> due to the injury and the remote location, we decided to expand support via air ambulance to a local area hospital. >> reporter: lifeguards tell us the father and son were in the water off of a quiet part of the island. >> that portion of catalina island is very secluded. it's -- kind of hike in only camping along those portions of beach. >> reporter: boy scott of emerald bay tell us the victim was at a youth camp. in a statement a boy scouts of america spokesperson added, "our onsite doctor and paramedic provided first aid and called in additional medical personnel who transported the individual to a hospital. our thoughts are with this young man and his family, and we will continue to support them in any way we can." chrilowe tells cbs news based on witness descriptions, it was believed to be a great white shark that was about ten feet in length.
