at king road and story road. a car struck a pedestrian and immediately fled the scene. right now, we're waiting to hear back from police with more official information. the fatal crash marks san jose's 34th traffic death in 2021. 14 of them have involved pedestrians. there have been nine in the past month alone. developing this morning, we're learning more about the murder of a teen-age girl that rocked one san francisco neighborhood. she was sitting on a skateboard when she was shot in front of her family. it happened friday night in the bay view. another woman was also injured. kpix 5 has more details from the bay view. >> reporter: we're learning more about the teenage victim. after her killing, her family said how much they missed her and put pictures on a public account. she was a very happy teen who loved to sing and dance.

>> don't keep shooting these kids man. >> reporter: a skateboard left in the middle of the street. a.i. saw a little girl and i said somebody shot the little girl. and she was laying on her side. all her family was there. her dad was hollering. they shot my daughter. they shot my daughter. >> reporter: police and neighbors say the father put the teenager and a 45-year-old woman shot in his truck and rushed them to the hospital. police did not stay how the 45- year-old woman is related to the girl. the woman is in stable condition and expected to survive. neighbors are upset and frightened by the shooting. a.i. don't want to go outside. aye don't want to -- it is scary. >> it breaks my heart. it really breaks my heart to hear a young baby girl playing on a skateboard got killed minding her own business. that could have been my little

girl. >> reporter: the shooting happened around 6:45 friday evening. police circled the six shell casings they recovered. at least one shot hit a house. >> we don't know if it was targeted or random but a 16- year-old female lost her life due to gun violence. that is why it is so important for anyone with information to come forward. ofamly member posted videos and pictures on social media calling the violence senseless. neighbors say before the shooting, the teenage girl and her family were plague outside of their house like they always do. >> neighbors say the family is friendly and respect full, always say hi and bye. >> we have to look out for our communities. the last thing we should do is let off firearms in our own hood. >> no suspects and no motive. >> reporter: this is the city's

29th homicide of the year. in san francisco, kpix 5. >> a man is in critical condition condition. it happened before 6:00 along virginia avenue. the motive remains unclear. no word yet on any suspects. >> mask mandates could return as early as next week. it comes after a new cdc study says that vaccinated people with the delta variant could spread it to others just as easily as unvaccinated people. bay area health officials have already recommended that people wear masks indoors but the san francisco health director said their health department has been discussing indoor mask mandates along with other counties. six counties reported more than 8,000 new covid deaths in the last week. that is an increase of more than 30% from the previous week.

we asked ucsf disease expert about possible mask mandates. a.i. do think that it is likely that counties will increase including our own have mask mandates. it doesn't mean you can't do the things you were going to do, but now, you will do it with a mask. >> daily case numbers are now higher than they were at this time last year. however, the doctor thinks we could see some improvement over the next few months. this has been such a rollercoaster and it keeps going back and forth. this is a good thing, the uk had about six or seven week ahead of us and the same modeling doing here and we hope mid- to late september that is when the cases will blum met. let's get through another month and a half of pandemic and then we'll get back to a better state. >> some encouraging news. vaccination rates are raising

across the bay area counties and they have been higher than the state average. according to data, salano county saw a 46% jump. on the fire watch, good news from the dixie fire line. some evacuation orders have been lifted. it is a welcomed change after the fire grew 20,000 acres in a matter of hours. the fire has slowed down since friday. growing a couple hundred acres, but some are worried the fire could flare-up, yet, again, and containment remains stuck at 24% and more than 10,000 structures are under threat. >> >> check out this video of cal fire air drops. the fire has burned over 240,000 acres. that is an area eight times the zeta of the city and county of san francisco. the good news, firefighters have beefed up most of the western perimeter of the laze

near populated areas. here in the bay area, a brushfire forced emergency crews to shut off two lanes of traffic on 580 yes they gained control of the burn in about 30 minutes but not before the fire scorched at least 15 acres. >> a going now to capitol hill this morning the over 3 million americans are now at risk of being forced from their homes. the nationwide eviction moratorium expired at midnight. lawmakers said they were blindsided by joe biden's inaction as it neared. some were furious he called on congress to provide a last- minute solution. one lawmaker camped out in protest on the capital steps but a recent court decision, prevent as not. this is not okay. we cannot just allow humans 7 million of them possibly to over the next few weeks be sent out to the streets. our states and our localities need to push the money out.

c1 a >> welcome back. the time is 6:12. san jose. we have an update to a battling disappearance of a runner. search teams looked in hard to reach areas but they didn't find any significant evidence leading to phillip. the 37-year-old husband and father of two disappeared three weeks ago after going for a run- in pleasanton ridge regional park. even though they didn't find anything, pleasanton police are still an lazing gps data from drones and crews on the ground. >> in the future if we have more analysis of the data and it leads to the same

learning a 17-year-old jogger was attacked along this bike path friday morning. police say she was jogging north along national boulevard when she noticed a man on a bike raiding behind her. she tried to get the away from the man. >> he was intently watching her while one of his pants in his pants possibly committing a lewd act. a he hit her in the head with an unknown object briefly knocking her out. she regained consciousness and saw the man ride away. they have a vague description of the man and searching for a motive in this stray length attack. she was stunned by what happened. a there are always like weirdoes walking around and stuff, but typically they don't bother somebody so that person must have been an outsider because they are the same people walking around here. >> it is a reminder for walkers

and runners to stay vigilant, know your surroundings no matter what time of day you're jogging and keep a phone with them if they don't feel safe and should contact police. >> the victim has a serious head injury and expected to be okay. people are asking anyone who witnessed this attack to give them a call. now, let's go to a check on the weather with meteorologist darren peck. how is it looking out there this morning? are we going to see sunshine any tame? >> we will. most of the bay area will get there, but some places today are waking up to more clouds than you have had for the past week or so. try val list is one of them. i want to show you the unique vantage point. this is from highland peak. it sits in the hills above the tri valley and the camera is looking down into the tri valley. this is a time lapse of the last 50 minutes so you can see the onshore surge. it is like you're driving in on

580 and going out towards livermore that way. the clouds have made it there. they are certainly here. that is the view from treasure island back to the city. over san jose, you'll have clear skies here if you don't already overhead. it has been pretty typical this week. san jose proper into downtown the clouds haven't gotten far enough south there, but cupertino, you'll will have. 59 in san jose. >> look at the cloud shield here. much of the santa clara valley has them, but downtown san jose southward from that stran taj point in the clear. there is the patchiness for the tri valley. how long does it take to get rid of them? >> we'll play it forward to about there. that gets us ahead to 11:35. then we got into the familiar

pattern where everybody has sun except through the golden gate and the city. even if we take this to 1:00 in the afternoon, there is this patch of marine layer for the west half of the city coming through the golden gate and probably even more patchiness redeveloping. that's what we have been doing for the last several days. we will get some mist. in the city, you might have some down along the peninsula and east bay hills. if you look at the big picture, more rain, actual rain to the sierra today. there has been a pattern this week with the thunderstorms in the mountains but today they are starting to get pushed back into the desert southwest so that pattern will start to quiet down. at home, sunshine for the rest of the day. daytime highs almost exactly on

the but fon for average, upper 70s to low 80s for the south bay. a getting into the immediate bayou feel a little cooler. right on the mark for average there. upper 80s. maybe a few 90s showing up there. the temperatures are so much caller here. although, as you get into the stral lis of marin and sonoma, we have some there and 77 and mid-90s up north. seven-day forecast. i'll show you how things play out for san francisco, oakland and san jose. no change. we're going to keep doing exactly what we're doing today for the next several days. to bring out some of the microclimates i'll show you hat we will be doing for the inland valleys of the east by, north bay valleys and the coast. no change. we're going to hold this line. we might get warmer inland by thursday. it shouldn't really be a

blocking access. flooding is causing more problems income come. glen haven north of denver is known to have flash floods. residents are on stand by to evacuate as rain continues to fall this weekend. now, let's get a look at our local forecast with darren peck. darren. >> going to start out with the view looking up highway 24 from lafayette. you can see the clouds have made it this far inland. a little farther inland than the past few days. we can watch the time lapse. the vantage point from this is above highway 24 looking west so those clouds coming onshore and working their way over towards the valley into the deob blow valley and we haven't seen quite as many as yesterday. it is a little cooler inland is the point i'm trying to make here. cities got great clouds. no surprise there.

even though it does look relatively clear from this view looking at san jose, you can see sunlight hitting the buildings but this camera is looking south and they are waking up to the same cloud deck. first, we rang pretty much upper 50s just about everywhere. if we switch now, here are the clouds streaming in and some getting into the tri valley. you're get into the southern urge of the south bay, and you're looking at clear skies. but we're going to melt it all back. by the time we get to about the 11:00 hour, it is sunshine for everybody with the exception of the west half of the stay where we will see as we have, and now this first day of august, a persistent marine layer right at the bridge and probably streaming into the east bay hills. plenty of sunshine everywhere else. if you want to experience the gray, you know where to go.

>> daytime highs in the upper os. today for sunnyvale 79. we get over into the inland valleys where temperatures are climbing to near 90 but the majority of these are in the 80s. i mean, even 84 for san ramon. 85 for dublin. that is a really nice return to temperatures below average for inland valleys. into the bay shoreline, upper 60s. we'll be in the mid 80s in santa rosa and upper 80s for napa. no 100s for lake county. that is the first time we have been able to forecast no 100s. >> whether the dixie fire or the new fire that started in the coast rang, not nearly as

who lost one of their own on the job. current philip was killed last weekend during a standoff. the community came together in bakersfield to honor the 35- year-old deputy. >> when you lose an officer, in the line of duty or even just from natural causes, it affects everybody. >> reporter: that was the case today when people showed up in large numbers with flags and signs to remember philip's life less than a week after the tragic shooting that left him a suspect and flee others dead. >> i'm sure his team expresses a loss. i felt it was necessary for me to be here to at least give my support. >> one of the a ten tees dez it is much deeper than some realize. a.i. retired and i was a s.w.a.t. commander during my a sanements and so it is a brotherhood.

this morning the sacramento history museum is reeling from a smash and grab robbery after thieves stole some gold rush artifacts. a door to the museum was boarded up with my wad today. police responded this morning after an alarm tripped. they found several damaged display cases. museum workers say the thieves

>> it is 6:55. time for a look at this mornings top stories. this morning san jose police are investigating a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian. it happened just after midnight near king and storey roads. police say a car hit the victim and immediately fled the scene. vaccinations are on an upwards trend across bay area counties as concern perusers about the delta variant of the virus. first dose vaccinations jumped 46% from july 9th to the 27th . some evacuation orders have been lifted off the dixie fire. growth has slowed since friday. so far the fire burned more than 240,000 acres, and containment still sits at 24%.
