assistant rosa in the upper 40s -- the temperatures in santa rosa in the upper 40s. be ready for that. the takeaway on this forecast for today, cloudy, mid-60s for daytime highs. light rain the next few hours. we'll look at that in just a bit. for now, back to you, devin. >> thank you, jim. one of the largestmas evident locked down yesterday. the police were searching for what they believed was a gunman, an active shooter inside of the mall. he's more on terrified shoppers. >> telling everyone to like run away. >> reporter: s.w.a.t. teams and law enforcement officers scrambled to search inside the mall. looking for a possible shooter son after a call reporting gunfire inside of the burlington coat factory came in around 5:30 this evening. >> we had to automatically switch to, you know, searching the interior of the mall. we believed based on the reports that we had, there was a shooting that had occurred. >> reporter: stores with want into lockdown, closing stole

gates. people inside stores expected the worst outcome. >> we were all hiding there and keeping quiet. as much as possible. >> reporter: no witnesses we spoke to said, they heard gunshots. police eventually escorted out employees and customers to safety. >> like empty inside. and they, they rush me out of the main entrance, the rear entrance. honestly, i thought i was going to be arrested for being inside. >> reporter: authorities detained suspects for questioning. no weapons were found or retrieved. there was no evident of a shooting or any victims after a thorough search of the entire mall and the shelter in place. >> everybody did their part to ensure the safety of the community. and that allowed us to conduct a quick thorough and efficient search. help those that were sheltered in place, escorted them outside of the mall and insured there was no one inside that was injured. >> reporter: police gave the all clear about two hours after the initial 911 call for help. they're not saying whether the three people they detained are

minors or not. look at how bold those thieves are. stealing a bunch of stuff from the suv in the middle of the day and a busy street near fisherman's wharf. sophia was in town for outside land. she said the victims told her that they had to end their vacation early because of the crime. opening statements got underway in a closely watched trial for the three men accused of killing ahmad arbery in georgia. the state argues that gregory mcmichael and his son wrongfully assumed he was a burglar. they chased him with their pickup truck and shot him last february. the lead prosecutor played cell phone video showing the deadly attack. >> those three defendantants committed four felonies against mr. arbery. >> he's not jogging. he's running away into the

neighborhood possibly armed. travis mcmichael, honestly and lawfully attempted to detain ahmad arberry, according to the law and shot and killed him in self-defense. >> reporter: the three white defendantants are charged with murder and other felony counts. the jury is predominantly white with only one black juror. the city of san francisco is expected to pay $2.5 million to settle a lawsuit of the killing of an unarmed black man by a rookie police officer. o'neil was shot and killed in december of 2017 as he jumped out of the stole know california state -- stolen california state lottery minivan. the officer shot him from the passenger seat of a squad car. it was just his fourth day on the job. the officer was fired three months later. he now faces a manslaughter charge. the board of supervisors is expected to formally approve the settlement on tuesday. a san francisco police sergeant was arrested on

suspicion of robbing a right aid in san mateo. sergeant devin cole was offduty when he was arrested wednesday evening. he's been released from jail on bond and placed on unpaid leave pending an internal investigation. police say that he joined the department 27 years ago in 1994. >> we received a call for service that there was an in- progress robbery. and our officers arrived on scene shortly thereafter. where they,in fact, encountered an individual who is later identified as the suspect who was arrested and they were able to safely arrest him on scene. >> cole worked as a homeless outreach officer for the police department. a former member of the usc athletic department has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for her rons -- donna h accused of arranging for more than two dozen student toes get

into uscs and pleaded guilty to wire fraud on friday. a one-way one-block alley in a neighborhood in san francisco has people feeling worried. willo street has the highest concentration of tents in san francisco, according to city data. and residents from the luxury condo next to it said the problem exploded only since covid. what is the solution? kpix 5s bitty yu has been investigating this story for weeks. here's what she uncovered. >> reporter: it's a street residence that say they're afraid to drive through. most won't dire walk through it day or night. >> it's pretty consistently nerve-racking. this is just -- seems to be a safe space for chop shops, drug trafficking. the garbage, first of all, like that is a huge health concern. rats. >> reporter: and it's all within feet of the artani, a modern condominium on van ness where units sold for more than

$1 million. >> what would you say is the most egregious part of that alley way? >> probably the threats of violence. the threats of violence to us, other residents in the building. i have seen people physically fighting and i myself was leaving once and a man approached my car yelling obscenities and threatening me, which is really scary. there was a guy who passed out in front of our door with a needle hanging out of his arm. all day long, and our children had to walk past that. >> reporter: the residents say they're confronted with unwanted activity as soon as they exit the garage. they shared photos of a man they say, regularly urinating. the smell permeates the entire garage. they say, another tries to break into their garage. others are captured damaging their property, even trespassing and stealing packages. >> i can't really reconcile

just the fact that this criminal activity is allowed to happen. i myself have called the cops a number of times. >> reporter: as recently as october 5th , the city came and did a complete sweep of the street. seen here in this photo. but by the next day, the tents and the trash had returned. >> the police don't actually come when we call 911. we're actively being threatened by someone who is wielding a club or knife much they don't come. >> reporter: the san francisco police directed our inquiry to the healthy streets operation center, which coordinates the city's response to quality of life issues. the department of emergency management said that city teams visited willow street on 24 different days this year and place more than 150 people in navigation centers, hospitals, or shelters. they also removed more than 375 empty tents. still, the crisis has driven away customers, according to this local business owner. >> absolutely. we don't feel safe here because

the virus of those becoming infected and we're secured millions of doses. the therapy would be another tool in our toolbox to protect people from the one of the outcomes of covid. >> we also have more good news from the u.k. that country approved another covid-fighting pill. this is from merck. the studies show the merck pill reduced hospital situations and deaths by half. amongst recently infected people and that pill has been approved for people with at least one risk factor for covid and including being over 60 years old, being obese or having heart disease. >> to have a drug like this and an antiviral that is potent and able to be taken orally is an important moment and marks a milestone. >> it's set for review in the u.s. later this month. the pfizer pill needs to be submitted for authorization. health officials warn that none of the treatments is a substitute forgetting the vaccine. and the city of oroville is getting tang after saying it

this is going make a humongous difference. >> reporter: in san mateo, max darrow kpix 5. the u.s. job market is seeing major. provement. the latest report shows that buesr the holidays, are adding more workers. the labor department said the employers adds more than 530,000 jobs in october, the most since july. last month, the unemployment rate dropped from 4.8%fo 4.6. >> reporter: think economists are pleased with the report and shows a nice bounce back after somewhat weakened reports the previous two months. >> it was hiring across several sectors of the economy, including -- and shipping companies added workers and are looking for more help. u.p.s. is holding in-person and virtual job fares across the country this weekend. the company plans to hour more than 100,000 seasonal workers and said that third of the staff will be hired for full-

time jobs. and amazon and wal-mart each want 150,000 workers, tearing the 100,000 and todayex needs 90,000 for the busy shopping and shipping season. >> and a live look at the embarcadero in san francisco. the city may need to raise parts of the famous waterfront by much is feet. the chronicle reports it's part of the shoreline defense strategy to prepare the waterfront for raising bay waters and impacts of a major earthquake. but, there is no timetable for when that work must be done. and the focus in the forecast. it's monday night and tuesday. there is another good rain maker coming our way. we'll stack a look outside and that is the camera sitting on treasure island. and you might encounter patchy fog in the north bay. showed you the visibilities off of the top of the newscast and

north of santa rosa. fog is better today than it was yesterday. if you were an early morning riser, the fog won't be as widespread for saturday morning as it was on friday. north bay, under keep a eye out. very light showers. if we come into the closer look, we can't rule out a possibility over the late morning. that is 10:00 a.m. we see a few light showers show up through sonoma county and through noon. wa jeff light rain we see. this is the only place that comes to an end. and clouds. they around for saturday. sunday, more sunshine and monday night, it rains. performs for today in the mid- and upper 60s under cloudy skies. you will barely notice. there is no real change. let's look to the headline in this forecast. the storm coming our way for monday night and tuesday. you have to look out here. as we play forward in the models, it starts to develop. and that looks pretty good into the second half of monday.

it's still not come on shore yet. you can see a very well- organized system out there. let's put that into a little bit of closer perspective. we have to lose lose a little bit. we're to far out to see real explicit details. we come away with a good idea there. monday night into tuesday want a good rain maker moves across the bay are. the best of the rain will come from monday not through tuesday morning. we'll have scattered showers throughout the day on tuesday and to see how much rain we get out of it, this is the perspective. the light rain coming through and falls to the north except for a few sprinkles. we're going to advance this and stay are the it on monday afternoon and we'll let it play from monday afternoon through tuesday and this is the rain. that is an inch and a half, as we look at the heavier totals. france with a half an inch of rain and san jose picking up about a half an inch of rain

from that. san francisco would be closer. that would be widespread rain on monday night and tuesday, that will impact the tuesday morning commute. we're way ahead of ourselves here and that is the main event. it will clear out in time for wednesday and thursday and sunshine back on the forecast. there is the seven-day for france and oakland and san jose. it's the same story. the rain coming in on monday night. heaviest overnight on monday into tuesday. and a few showers lingering into wednesday. and lot look at that. stormy today. the clouds are sticking around. we'll get light rain in the late morning but the north bay and then you get sunshine for sunday. sunday is the nicer day of the two this weekend. for that storm coming in monday into tuesday, i saw the heaviest rain is to the north. what about the areas like santa cruz mountains in. >> once you get an elevation, you will pick up more rain. san jose looks like a half an inch of rain. i think if that holes true, you

,since it happened in broad daylight. shaun chitniss is re-evaluating whether they can stay there. >> reporter: people walking along haite street friday were learning about a shooting that happened on this block the day before around 1:00 p.m. the memorial for the man who died on the scene throughout the day. >> it's a next step. anything violent is abnormal for me. it feels look overall, the city is trending in that direction. >> reporter: he doesn't look to far from thursday's shooting and lives even closer to the gunshots fired and another shooting in his neighborhood late last month. >> a bullet from the shooting entered my bedroom. fortunately stopped by the dresser. >> he went to bed that night not knowing about the stray bullet, giving him time to process what happened and how close he was to that shooting. >> we didn't find out we had the bullet until the day after. i did some investigating. >> other residents who lived in

i'm jeff glor in monew york. president biden about to deliver an infrastructure bill. the president's build back better act still on hold. listen in. >> -- 5. million jobs since we took office on january 20th. recent unemployment rate of 4.6%. two full years earlier than the vast majority economist projected that would happen, and we've, we're just getting started. we did something that's long overdue. that long has been talked about in washington. never actually has been done. house of representatives passed an infrastructure investment and jobs act. a fancy way of saying, a bipartisan infrastructure bill.

a once in a generation investment that's going to create millions of jobs, modernize the infrastructure, our roads, bridges, broadband and a whole range of things to turn the climate crisis into an opportunity. and puts us on a path to win the economic competition of the 21st century we faced with china and other large countries and the rest of the world. it's going to create more jobs, good-paying jobs, union jobs and can't be outsourced and they're going to transform our transportation system with the most significant investments in passenger rail, the most significant investment in 50 years, in roads and bridges. the most significant investment in 70 years, and more investment in public transit than we've ever, ever made. period. the going to modernize our ports and airports. i'm going to some of our ports next week, to freight rail. increasing that as -- look, we have bottlenecks across the country. we're doing so much with this
