with you. i'm anne-marie green. we begin with a pivotal moment in the homicide trial of kyle rittenhouse. the teenager took the stand yesterday in his defense, and at times crying during his testimony. rittenhouse is charged with killing two men and wounding a third last year. he claimed he acted in self-defense and feared for his life. laura podesta has the latest developments. >> reporter: kyle rittenhouse took the stand in his trial wednesday 14 months after shooting three people, two of them fatally, during protests in kenosha, wisconsin. >> the person that attacked me first threatened to kill me twice. >> reporter: the 18-year-old sobbed as he described that night in august, 2020. >> run -- >> reporter: during cross-examination, the prosecution questioned rittenhouse's self-defense claims. >> you're telling us that you

morning following the tragedy at travis scott's concert that left at least eight people dead and hundreds injured. houston's police chief says organizers of the astroworld music festival have not provided investigators with clear records about security staffing working the grounds before the deadly crowd surge. >> we're going to hold people accountable, and i think that the family, we owe that to them. and people have to understand that's why we're moving with this investigation and doing the best job that we can do on it. we owe that to them. >> the police chief said that he met with travis scott before friday's concert, expressing concerns about crowd control. scott briefly halted the show but played on even after authorities declared a mass casualty event. a crew member on alec baldwin's latest movie has filed a lawsuit after a deadly on-set shooting. the head of lighting for the movie "rust" filed the suit in an l.a. court alleging

widespread negligence that caused him severe emotional distress. it names nearly two dozen defendants including alec baldwin. according to legal documents, the actor shot and killed the t and this morning, four astronauts are heading to the international space station. they'll conduct experiments and maintenance before returning to earth in the spring. mark strassmann has more. three, two -- >> reporter: against florida's night sky, four astronauts blasted off late wednesday -- >> and lift off -- >> reporter: their crew dragon spacecraft headed for the international space station and a six-month stay. weather and an undisclosed medical issue with a crew member delayed the nasa and spacex crew three launch atop the falcon 9 rocket for nearly two weeks. on board, three nasa astronauts, flight attendant commander raja chari and crewmates tom mashburn and kayla barron, barron also a navy submarine warfare officer.

>> does it feel as though you're going from living in a metal can under water to living in a metal can up in space? >> i look at the space station -- what other people think about, but i go that's a submarine in space. upade. >> reporter: before the flight, he's iace. >> then i'll have a chance to sit back and say, okay, this is actually real. >> crew three is on their way to the international space station. [ cheers ] >> reporter: crew dragon will be in position to rendezvous and dock autonomously with the space station thursday evening. their home for the next six months comes with quite a view. mark strassmann, cbs news, at the kennedy space center. last night's launch was the fifth passenger flight for spacex overall. it also marked the 600th person to reach space in the past 60 years. >> back here on earth, there's encouraging progress to protect children from covid. the white house says more than

900,000 kids between the ages of 5 and 11 have received their first vaccine shot so far. they say another 700,000 appointments have been set up for that same age group. more than 20,000 vaccination sites are up and running across the nation. meantime in texas, a federal juha disabilities act. the ruling allows months of legal wrangling between parents and the state. the cost of living is on the rise. the labor department says that consumer prices jumped more than 6% in the past year. that's the biggest inflation rate since 1990. anthony pura reports. >> reporter: a trip to the grocery store is leading to sticker shock for some shoppers, including delores serio. what have you been noticing at the stores? >> sky-high prices. >> reporter: a new report from the labor department shows overall grocery prices jumped more than 5% in the last year.

meat prices are up with beef roast soaring almost 25%, and bacon increasing 20%. staples like eggs and coffee are also on the rise. >> i used to shop based on what i like. now i shop based on price and what i can afford. >> reporter: it's not only food, just about everything we buy is more expensive, from clothes to used cars. gas has skyrocketed, up nearly 50% in the past year. >> i believe demand will remain strong, supply will remain constrained, and unfortunately higher prices will be here probably for the next six, maybe nine months. >> reporter: supply chain slowdowns and current prices means americans will be spending more on thanksgiving dinner this year. nearly everything it takes to make the typical holiday feast is pricier. >> they're definitely up -- >> reporter: alan arzoian owner of handy market in burbank, california, says that includes the turkey. >> this year we've seen a substantial increase in our wholesale pricing.

the money will go to children exposed to the lead, adults who can prove they were impacted, and anyone who paid water bills. singer elton john received a high honor, and another capitol rioter was sentenced. those are some of the headlines on the "morning newsstand." "the washington post" reports a new jersey gym owner was sentenced to nearly 3.5 years in prison for assaulting a police officer during the january 6th riot at the u.s. capitol. 44-year-old scott fairlamb was seen on video punching a washington, d.c., officer outside the capitol. it is the longest sentence imposed since the attack and the first for assaulting an officer. fairlamb pleaded guilty earlier this year and apologized for his actions. and "usa today" says elton john received one of the highest awards that can be given by queen elizabeth. the 74-year-old singer was presented with the order of the companions of honor yesterday by prince charles during a ceremony

on the cbs "money watch," disabled passengers, and mariah carey is collaborating with a fast food chain for a holiday treat. diane king hall is at the new york stock exchange with those stories and more. good morning, diane. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. well, this morning stock futures are pointing to a flat open after a selloff yesterday following new data showing elevated inflation. the dow dropped 240 points. the nasdaq skidded 263, and the s&p 500 lost 38, dropping from back-to-back sessions. the justice department is suing uber accusing the ride-sharing company of discriminating against disabled people. the federal government says uber unfairly targets those passengers by charging them fees when drivers have to wait for them to board their vehicles. the surcharge kicks in two minutes after an uber driver arrives and until the car begins its trip. uber says it's made changes and denies the allegations. elon musk kept the promise

he made to twitter. the tesla ceo sold about 4.5 million shares of his stock raising over $5 billion. more than $1 billion will go toward paying tax obligations for stock options. musk owns about 170 million tesla shares. last weekend he said he would sell 10% based on the results of a poll he conducted on twitter. and this may be all you want for christmas. mcdonald's is teaming up with singer mariah carey to deliver 12 days of free food. the mariah menu will feature one item free of charge each day through christmas eve. customers just have to make a minimum purchase of $1 on the restaurant's mobile app. the menu rolls out december 13th. anne-marie? >> this is my kind of advent calendar. like the first one i think is a big mac. like it's not like they're going, you know, cheap on the whole thing. it's pretty good. >> yeah. >> of course -- >> i love me some mariah carey -- >> i cannot get that mariah carey song out of my brain. >> "all i want for christmas is

our top stories this morning -- kyle rittenhouse took the stand yesterday at his murder trial. at times sobbing during his testimony. he claimed he acted in self-defense and feared for his life when he shot and killed two people during protests in kenosha, wisconsin, last year. and spacex launched four astronauts to the international space station last night. weather and an undisclosed medical issue held up the launch nearly two weeks. their capsule will dock at the station later this evening, kicking off a six-month science and research operation. there are new details about the sexual misconduct investigation into former

governor andrew cuomo. the state's attorney general released hundreds of pages of transcripts of cuomo getting questioned about the accusations. jericka duncan has more. >> reporter: throughout the 11-hour deposition, former new york governor andrew cuomo was often combative with investigators and repeatedly denied inappropriate behavior. the 515-page transcript was leased by the state's attorney general, letitia james. she launched an investigation that found cuomo groped, kissed, and made sexually suggestive comments to 11 women. former cuomo aide brittany commisso who claims cuomo groped her in the executive mansion sat down with me for an exclusive interview in august. >> he put his hand up my blouse and cupped my breast over my bra. >> reporter: but cuomo told investigators that never happened saying, "it would be an act of insanity to touch a woman's breast and make myself vulnerable to a woman for such an accusation." >> i cannot go into any detail

-- >> reporter: the incident prompted a separate investigation by the albany county sheriff's office which filed a criminal complaint against cuomo last month of forcible touching. the district attorney is now investigating. >> let me be clear -- that never happened. >> reporter: when asked if he's ever kissed any staff members on the lips, cuomo replied, "i kiss on the cheek. there may be an occasion where a staff member kissed me on the lips, but i kiss on the cheek as a rule." another alleged incident involves an unnamed female state trooper on cuomo's security detail who claims she was harassed and inappropriately touched. she told investigators, "i felt like completely violated because to me like that's between my chest and my privates." cuomo's attorney criticized the state attorney general saying she's trying to prejudice people against cuomo when he's facing a pending criminal charge. we also learned cuomo's final words to investigators after being questioned for 11 hours. he said, quote, i would like to
