charges in the capitol trial investigation. good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne marie green. after two weeks of tears and testimony, the homicide trial of kyle rittenhouse is in the hands of the jury. lawyers from both sides made their best case to the jury of 12. today, that jury will begin deliberating. we have more from new york. >> good morning. 500 national guard troops are standing by in kenosha, wisconsin as the community awaits a verdict. that could come down as early as today. >> jury deliberations begin today in kyle rittenhouse's homicide trial. briefly serving on the defense team. >> this is an extremely divisive case. i think people will be unhappy no matter how this comes out. >> during eight days, rittenhouse's own appearance may stand out the most.

>> attorneys for the 18-year-old said he acted in self-defense when he shot three men killing two during protests in wisconsin last year. >> every person who was shot was attacking kyle. one with a skate board. one with his hands. one with his feet. one with a gun. >> prosecutors argued he provoked violence by bringing a firearm. he went to kenosha to help protect local businesses and provide first aid. >> the defendant gets to run around with a gun all night but we aren't supposed to take him as a threat. no. him. >> facing five criminal accounts including first degree homicide. the judge is allowing several lesser charges if they acquit him.

>> one account. dismissed. the possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under the age of 18. they argue there was a law that had an exception that applied in this case. >> thank you so much. amid rising tensions between the u.s. and china, president biden and his counter part took part in a high-stakes virtual meeting. they met with each other for more than three hours. president biden opened by saying i the goal should be ensured that competition between the two countries does not bare into conflict. they addressed many issues including cyber security. china's human rights issues and the commitment to protect taiwan. earlier in the day, president biden signed the massive infrastructure deal into law putting $550 billion in new money into transportation, broad

talk about being in the right place at the right time. a maryland man drove into the marina. amazingly a water rescue crew happened to be filming a water safety video. the elderly man was trapped in the car. the dive team jumped into real-life action. busted a car window and pulled the man to safety. >> i wonder if they included that in a new video. a long-serving senator announced he is retiring. some traveling to the u.s. will have to wait.

>> axios reports the u.s. is halting refugee admissions until january 11. since august, more than 70,000 afghans have relocated to the u.s. following the taliban regaining control of the country. the state department is limiting the number entering the u.s. to focus on the massive effort to process and resettle thousands 0 of afghans and also waiving work permit and green card applications for evacuaties. a report patrick leahy will not seek reelection. elected to the first of eight terms in 1974. the first democrat facing reelection next year to say he will retire. the election to replace him will be critical to democrats as they try to maintain control of the

senate. the texas tribune reports former congressman beto o'rourke is running to be the next governor of the state. he criticized abbott over the state's power grid failure. o'rourke lost his bid for the democratic presidential nomination last year and narrowly loss the senate nomination to ted cruz in 2018. still to come, a guitar played by eric clapton is bringing huge bids at auction.
