i'm anne marie green. we begin with that christmas parade tragedy in wisconsin. the driver who allegedly plowed into a parade and killed five people will appear in court inedn a icurball h posted $1,000 ble an two w ago for anoth od mng >> reporter: investigators say brooks has a criminal record that dates back to 1999 and was faced with criminal charges. he was accused with running over his child's mother with his suv. >> facing five counts of homicide for killing five people in the parade.

>> 10 to 15 people down in the street. >> last night, community gathered. >> this is a small first step in healing. >> five people were killed. four part of the performance group called the dancing granies. others injured include several children. >> i remember the sounds of an engine revving as if the motorist was flooring it. jo brooks had been involved in a domestic incident minutes before h drove into the parade. >> we had barricades up and he drove right through. >> he has a criminal regard that dates back to 1999 and includes three felony gun charges.

earlier this month, he was accused of running over his child's mother with his suv. >> the youngest of the victims battling injuries this morning is just three years old. alise from new york, thank you. jury deliberations expected today in the hearing. the defense says they were trying to make a citizens arrest. >> ahmaud arbery's mother wept. one step closer to closure as closing arguments in the trial of the men accused of murdering her son. >> all three of these men made assumptions and made their decision to attack ahmaud arbery

in their driveways because he was a black man running down the street. >> prosecutor told the state's side that three men charged with murder could not have made a citizen's arrest because arbery could not have committed a crime. while chasing arbery through the neighborhood and confronting him. it was travis mcmichael, the man who pulled the trigger who committed a felony. >> imagine if armed robbers came in and said i had to protect myself. >> defense attorneys argued they were just defending themselves when they tried to detain arbery. >> travis trying to yank this gun. is there any question he is assaulting mcmichael. >> defense says he didn't pull the trigger and it was arbery's

actions that lead to the confrontation. he said he didn't know what was happening or that mcmichael had a weapon. >> if found guilty, they could fies life in prison. at least 48 million americans are expected to travel by car this thanksgiving holiday and they may get help with gas prices. a senior white house official confirms that president biden will announce today he's tapping into the strategic patrol petroleum reserve. to counter rising gas prices. the administration has been pushing countries including china and japan do the same. the national average has risen to $3.41 a gallon according to triple a. >> in the meantime, 41 million americans plan to fly. tsa says it is not concerned with staffing issues.

almost all the families of those killed and wounded in the 2018 parkland massacre are reached a settlement with the federal government. the families of 16 of those killed at the high school sued over the fbi's failure to follow on a tip that cruz intended to attack. he pleaded guilty last month and faces a possible death sentence. lebron james learned his punishment and donald trump's former fixer has been freed. those are some of the headlines. routers reports michael cohen, donald trump's former attorney completed his three-year prison term. he walked out a free man. sentenced in 2018 after pleading guilty to several crimes.

cohen spent more than a year in prison before serving 18 months in home confinement in his home apartment. he said he would continue to cooperate with law enforcement. a report there is a call for action against groups of thieves who ransacked high-end stores and marijuana stores and pharmacies. the groups consisted of dozens of people armed with hammers and crow bars swarmed storz. in some cases, thieves used gun fire to storm their way into stores. the governor promised stronger police presence. >> you will see substantially more starting today in and around areas highly trafficked coming into the holiday season, black friday and shopping malls. >> the thefts are believed to be part of a sophisticated criminal network that recruits mainly
