right now, scary moments outside of a high school football game. there was gunfire outside the stadium, and panic inside. a dangerous new strain of the coronavirus is alarming scientists around the world. good morning. thank you so much for joining us. let's start with a quick check of our weather. it is a good morning to be out there on the road. you know what the temperatures feel like. it is in the low 40s. that is very much in line with what we were doing for yesterday morning and the day before that. as we look across the forecast for today, low 70s today.

plenty of sunshine. back over to you. we begin with breaking news this morning. of water main ruptured overnight. 90 minutes ago police shut down charlton drive and they have since reopened the road letter urging drivers to use caution. two men were hurt after gunfire a rep that at a high school parking lot. it happened last night at westmont high school before san jose and campbell. they are trying to figure out what led up to the shooting. students took cover as the shots rang out. they have not established a motive. a student describe for us the scene as that shooting began. >> all of a sudden you heard five shots at least.

everyone did not know what it was at first. all of the students scattered away and started running. that is when everyone realized the team dropped. i was running to the back of the school not even knowing where i was going. >> the two victims are expected to recover. that happened during a regional championship game. looking live out at union square this morning, san francisco police were out in full force this morning. ttare have to sustain this type re? >> i safe, and i like it. >> i love seeing the increased

visibility. >> some shots had extra security guards keeping a close eye. they added security procedures did not stop shoppers. >> reporter: people braved the crowds to see the crowds and do some shopping. police officers were highly visible on every corner. >> a big box retailers outside the city like this best by, shoppers were out looking to score good deals. she picked up a math book pro. >> it's usually $2800 and i got a $2200. >> reporter: for many shoppers, it was the first time shopping in person since the pandemic began. how does it feel to be back out? >> i like it. i got a 65 inch tv.

you to shop their stores. not only do they provide quality shopping opportunities, but they keep your community thriving. a line outside the santa clara convention center looked a lot like the ones you would see outside of a mall or big box sure. the shoppers were there to support 300 small businesses taking part in holiday mart. president biden plans to shop small today and sent out a message encouraging others to do the same. small businesses are not only the entrance of our economic progress, but they are the heart and soul of our communities. police issued a citywide tactical alert in los angeles. here is more from beverly grove .

>> reporter: police respond to another high-end heist on melrose place and beverly grove. of robbery at a luxury italian fashion house. from overhead, we could see a store employee wiping her face with the towel. it is the latest in a stream of crimes from the bay area to socal. and canoga park, nordstrom was hit and a security guard was attacked with hairspray. on this black friday, police are on high visibility patrols. people can see the officers are there. we found uniformed officers on foot patrol at the century city mall >> we are monitoring this very closely and we have a great relationship with lapd and we are working closely with them to make sure that we are prepared. cruise boarded-up shattered windows outside of the

nordstrom at the grove. lapd believe someone used a sledgehammer to break the window for a group of up to 20 people to get inside the store. officers are on extra patrols with contracted private security. on friday night, police received another robbery report added designer jeans store on south la brea in hancock park. it is not known how much merchandise or money was taken from here or the shop and beverly grove. another smash and grab played out in los angeles county and this time at a home depot. deputies say a large group of people apparently stole sledgehammers. a gilroy shooting killed a sacramento man and left another person wounded. they were riding in a car on wednesday evening but it was sprayed with bullets. no arrests have been made so far. fire crews battled this

fire which created a huge fireball. cal fire says the driver noticed smoke coming from the trailer and quickly disconnected his truck. investigators think a wall heater set off a fire that left damage at this apartment building in santa rosa. no one was home when it broke out yesterday afternoon. the property owners son suffered minor cuts when he broke a window to rescue a trapped cat. the clock is ticking this morning on a new u.s. travel ban fueled by a new coven variants. flights will be restricted from several countries and it will take effect on monday. as we report from san jose, it may be too late to keep it out of the country. >> reporter: do you think the president made the right move?

>> yes. we've got to nip it in the bud. >> reporter: a new variant known as omicron. after nearly 6 months dealing with the delta variant, they say nothing about covid is surprising anymore. >> we are so used to it now it seems normal now. >> reporter: the world health organization's labeling omicron a highly transmissible variant of concern. >> it is only a matter of time until we see this variant in the u.s.? >> there is a lot of travel between south africa and the u.s.. >> reporter: the omicron variance concerning features are found on the spike protein. 10 mutations on the edge of the spike protein which allows the virus to attach to the body. that might make it stickier and

six many parts of the bay area are celebrating the holiday season. a band made its way down niles boulevard to celebrate the festival of lights. classic cars towed into bright and colorful floats. dogs made their way down that parade route in style.

>> it is a great start to the holiday season. it gives it that official kickoff of seeing all the decorations out there and everyone being festive and getting out. >> hundreds gathered data park could see the christmas tree lighting. the sights and sounds of the holiday season are back in san jose. christmas in the park's return to downtown san jose. visitors can stroll through different themed areas where thousands of lights are seeing to a soundtrack. there is also a drive-through display at cunningham park. >> a big thank you to all the volunteers that may christmas in the park the amazing spectacle that it is. we have people that have been volunteering for decades. >> christmas trees are up and gary deli square.

fog there. morning temperatures in the low 40s at their coldest. we could easily have been down into the mid-30s. there is a little bit of an issue up around santa rosa because the airport is down to .5 miles. if you're on the road are about to get on the road in the northbay, you will likely had some patchy fog. everywhere else, you can see just fine. low-level clouds out there. as a clear route, we have relatively clear skies which we were just seeing from our net work of cameras. this will let the temperature drop a little. temperatures are going down a little more from where i just showed you. it will stay relatively clear for the rest of the day. daytime highs will climb back up into the low 70s. it will be 67 and fremont.

redwood city, 68. we get back over into the heart of the bay and the numbers are also mid-60s. as we get closer into mendocino and lake county, we see 70s hanging on. a big picture will show was an interesting pattern. it is a pattern in the pacific we haven't had to think about. the storms are still there and pointed at the same spot for the last two weeks and the next week to come. devastating amounts of rain and british columbia. we get one today and another one will come on monday. copious amounts of rain to british columbia and down to the pacific northwest. there is plenty of rain up there but nothing from the california line south. this pattern holds.

it is nice to finish off the weekend with sunshine and 70s but as we get into early december, we probably don't want to see too many 70s. we need rain. as good as october was, we are still in a drought. the way this long-range forecast is looking, it is staying warm and sunday. by the time we get to july, it did not rain at all last winter. this pattern that we are locked in now for the next 10 days, we are into the heart of the rainy season. we should be getting storms right now. you don't think about it when you get lulled into sunday and 70s. >> it was a beautiful thanksgiving, but we do need some rain. we needed dust off that rain dance? >> looking at the long-range forecast, there is nothing out there. still ahead on kpix5 and

lives. power outages lingered on friday. the power has been restored the most areas. a warning for online shoppers. experts say that thousands of fake websites are popping up and stealing money from shoppers. here are some tips on how to avoid getting scammed. >> reporter: this iowa high school senior wanted to buy some merchandise from billy irish. >> i found this official site and i started looking around in shopping. >> reporter: he purchased the bundle he saw on instagram and the price tag was almost $100. when the transaction hit his bank account it showed nearly $79. >> i started to look up reviews on the website. there are over 1000 people

reviewing this website saying it is a scam. >> reporter: what has happened in terms of your money and merchandise? >> i don't have the merchandise or my money. >> reporter: thousands of consumers have lost money in scammers posing as legitimate online retailers. >> we have seen at 2000% increase over the last few months. >> reporter: his company has counted over 5000 fake websites. as criminals take advantage of consumers need for products in short supply. >> walmart, amazon, best buy. they don't have the toy you want in stock and did you google it and find this boutique company that is offering the bicycle that your daughter wants. it really is not a company but a front for transnational criminal groups.

>> reporter: those criminals fake sites are launched from overseas and becoming increasingly sophisticated. >> they learn as they go just like you and i. it is like a virus that spreads. it does not stop until the consumers stop falling for the trick. >> reporter: cbs news, new york. amazon employees protested on black friday. they say the e-commerce giant puts profits over people. organizers are calling for the company to make changes. a dozen chinese companies have been needed, added to a trade blacklist. they could undermine national security and officials fear

emerging there allergies could be used for quantum computing efforts that would support china's military. many of the firms have helped to modernize china's army. antioch police have arrested a woman who tried to set fire to a house and the person inside. smoke was pouring out of the house when fire crews arrived yesterday morning. she targeted the resident. >> she did pour gas on the other occupant of the home. he was not injured. he remained at the house. she set fire to the back of the house. >> the women was arrested and the victim is okay. a sideshow in palo alto left two people critically hurt when they tried to flee from police. most of the cars sped away but a chevy camaro sideswiped a patrol car before veering off the roadway into a tree.

a young man and woman were in the car and not wearing their seat belts. they are in intensive care this morning. no officers were hurt. san francisco fire crews rescued a drowning coyote from the bay. the fire department said bystanders call for help after seeing the coyote struggled to swim. they made a lasso to keep the coyotes head above water. he was treated and then transferred to a care center. they called him phoenix and said that he will be okay. a big rig fleet of the future. a style of semi truck that is battery operated. we test drove one of the trucks and have more on how they could make a big impact on our impact, environment and drivers. >> reporter: this is an all

electric big rig. these battery-powered semi trucks are something you could soon see on the roadways? >> right here we've got the freightliner one of our fully battery electric trucks. these are fully battery electric. there is no engine in them and in a lot of the moving parts are removed from the truck. >> reporter: there are numerous advantages. lower maintenance costs, but the biggest is a positive impacts on the environment? >> if you were to just replace one truck, that is the equivalent of 10 passenger cars off of the road. >> reporter: cisco is often seen on the sides of big rig's and trucks. they are a leading distribution company. >> our drivers had a chance to take the vehicle out a different routes and testing

boreal mountain spent a week before reopening making snow themselves and prepping for the official start of snow season. excited to make first tracks, tom and his son chose snowboarding over shopping? >> no christmas shopping today. >> reporter: would you take this over black friday? >> any day. we love it up. we hope that people come up in droves. >> it is the funnest thing i can do. >> reporter: even first timers bobig and small. they enjoyed the snow whether they were writing on it, sledding on it, or eating it. >> i think that this is a mountain of ice cubes. they had about 800 visitors yesterday. they hope it will increase

santa rosa. there are the clouds from overnight. they are gone and we will stay clear. more blue sky today than anything else. daytime highs in the low 70s once again. santa clara, 70 today. fremont will hit 67. hayward, 67. that is a story we see bay area wide across the rest of the day. all mid-60s no matter where you are until you get up to ukiah and cloverdale. storm track is keeping everything away from us right now. the clouds are doing a big arc over us. one very impressive storm up there will turn into another impressive storm to start the week. as long as they keep them coming in like a train, we stay

out of the storm track and our weather will stay sunny and warm. and now most critically, it will be very dry and above average going into the last week of november and likely the first week of december. not the kind of scenario that we wanted to see. there is not even a hint of the possibility of rain. october was good, but we've got some serious making up to do and we are still in a drought. temperatures in the 70s for your daytime high. in hindsight in july, hopefully we're not looking back and remember when it was 70 degrees every day endlessly and then for the seven day, that is what it looks like. that would be the northbay valley example. we are sitting right around 70 for the daytime high which is pretty nice if you want to be

outside. they were talking about the ski resorts opening and then having to close. it is my understanding that it might be too warm for them to make snow >> for them to make snow, it needs to be consistently in the 20s. they are just getting it right down on the runs. you just have to get up there in on what they have. food trucks are coming to the pedestrian and bicycle only days. it is part of a pilot program starting this week. you can grab plan based burgers and vegetarian coffee. a berkeley man known as a maverick grant maker and the fastest philanthropist around. sharon chin introduces us to the jefferson award winner.

it is time for a look at this morning's top stories. two men are hurt at the gunfire erupted last night in campbell. police are trying to establish a motive and track down suspects. the victims are expected to recover. shoppers were out looking for good deals on black friday. for many this was the first time since the pandemic began. police were on every corner. port backlogs are causing problems for the west coast supply chain. it is taking more than double the normal time to unload ships partly because there is no place to put all the containers. many holiday deals are delayed in transit. some of the prettiest colors in the sky right before sunrise. the sun rises coming up at 7:03. current numbers out there, we have dipped down to the upper 30s in napa.
