with covid cases spiking, some cities are taking action. epicenter of the pandemic, a new vaccine mandate is among the toughest of the country. we have more. >> good morning, the mayor is calling this a bold move to battle covid. all businesses have just three weeks to get all employees vaccinated or those employees won't be allowed to come to work. in what is likely the toughest mandate of the country, anyone who works in new york city will have to be vaccinated before the new year. vaccination is the central weapon in this war. >> the o order which cover employees who work in person at private companies includes more least one dose by december 27nd. weekly testing is not an option. children as young as five will also have to show proof to

participate in many indoor activities. fewer than half of 5 to 17-year-olds here have gotten at least one shot. >> protecting our health and the kids around new york city, i think that is important. >> if we are going to be mandated, i think our freedom is being suppressed. >> covid killed millions in the last year. >> for those unvaccinated, there really isn't a safe recommendation for those folks to gather. >> unvaccinated americans should reconsider indoor gatherings. the situation is getting worse. we have delta and now omicron. >> the omicron variant has been detected in at least 19 states but delta remains the dominant strain. health officials say it appears early, while it appears omicron

the casket of former presidential candidate and u.s. senator bob dole will lie in state in the u.s. capital on thursday. a member of congress for 36 years. before his death, he wrote an oped for usa today published yesterday. he called for americans to unite and put their political differences aside for the common good. tragedy at a race track and more hostages released in haiti. those are some of the headlines this morning. >> a report three more kidnapped christian missionaries were released. the religious group and state department said they were freed on sunday. 16 americans and one canadian including five children were abducted in october. two others released last month. the gang initially demanded $17 million ransom. the leader said hostages would be killed if demands not met.

medina spirit died after a workout in california. died on the track yesterday. the trainer said the horse suffered a heart attack. testing positive for a legal medication not allowed on race day following the kentucky derby. the race is still under investigation. the u.s. justice department is ending investigation into the 1955 lynching of black teenager emmett till in mississippi. he was abducted after being accused of whistling at and making advances to a white woman. investigators reopened after a book saying that the woman lied about till whistling and grabbing her. the justice department told

nasa received more than 12,000 applications. former cnn anchor chris cuomo is leaving his radio show. he says the accusation is not true. he was fired by cnn over the weekend. he was initially suspended after new details surfaced showing he played a greater role than he first thought trying to help his brother former governor andrew cuomo responding to his own sexual misconduct allegations. the recording academy withdrawing drake's nominations at the request of the rapper. he received two nominations for best rap album and rap performance but certified lover boy has not received nominations. drake called out the grammys after not being nominated outside the rap category. watch on january 31st year on

cbs. the world's first postage stamp goes up for auction. the unused penny black british stamp issued in 1940. part of a paper from a scrap book known as the wallace document. owned by one of the world's leading stamp collectors who bought it ten years ago for $66,000. it is expected to sell up to $8 million. >> i do hope that someone who buys it actually understands its importance as being a world icon. >> there are believed to be only two unused penny black stamps from the original first printing both in the collection of the british postal museum.
