help. >> someone is lost their life whether it was by accident or foul play, i don't know. but there's high suspicion of foul play. it's almost christmas time. you just think how you can be here and one minute later you're not. >> the cruise ship will return to long beach tomorrow morning. all right, let's get caught up on this forecast. we'll start out first by taking a look not only at the future cast and where the rain is going from here but let's start out with an actual high look at high def doppler. we get an overview of how widespread the rain is this morning. showers are pretty much scattered heavily anywhere you go. it's raining pretty much bay area wide. this morning and a better bet on that not only as you take a look at how we have done so far, santa rosa picking up 6th inch of rain since we started the newscast at 6:00 a.m. a tenth of an inch everywhere else.
6:39 am
we'll take the future cast from our 6:00 hour in the morning and just let it play throughout the entire day. and it takes really the entire day before this is cleared the bay area. once we have gotten to 10:00 tonight, it's going to stall over the south bay and more importantly perhaps the saunt cruz mountains. let this play for 12 hours and it rains consistently down here. and that's going to be an issue for the burn scar of the ccu fire in the santa cruz mountains and also san jose will come away with better rainfall. as we get to the back edge of that the next system arrives at 10:00 on monday and that one marchs its way across the entire bay area. throughout the day. it won't rain as persistently as it does on sunday but monday's rain could come in heavier. this has a slightly better dynamic on monday.
6:40 am
you need to plan on rain both days and then by the time we get to tuesday, the system starts to exit. however, tuesday we still have a chance for isolated scattered showers and thunderstorms. the rainfall totals definitely tell a story here. look at the south bay. much higher numbers there as we get to tuesday morning. san jose, three inches on the high side of the forecast. but still, whether you get three inches or two and three quarters of two and a half, that's still very good rain for san jose and it's better than most locations. keep in mind santa rose we have gotten the rain so you're up there at an inch and a quarter or more along with the rest of the day area as well and this is where the focus becomes for t12-hour block. from 10:00 at night on sunday to 10:00 in the morning on monday, there's the red outline of the ccu burn scar where burn flows become a concern because it's a
6:41 am
lot of rain on recently burned slopes. wind advisory for everybody except the north bay, windy for the city peninsula south bay and east bay, gusts up to 40 miles per hour staying in effect until monday at 7:00 a.m. that's enough to break a branch off a tree. then you get a localized power outage so that's a possibility with this system. daytime highs on sunday, staying in the mid 50s. relatively warm but it will be breezy and damp so keep that in mind. on the other sieftd state, this is going to be a good snow maker. several feet of snow coming to the higher elevations with snowg until 10:00 at night on tuesday. this would be the window of time to avoid driving in the sierra. wait until we get towards late tuesday if not wednesday before you make those plans and then the next system comes in on wednesday. actually put your wednesday sierra travel plans on hold for now as well because the next system comes in on wednesday. wednesday second half of the day
6:42 am
into thursday. we'll see widespread rain moving across the bay area again and really all of northern california so the 7-day forecast looks real busy but we know it's today, monday isolated showers on tuesday, next system gets here second half of wednesday wednesday and thursday and we'll clear things out by friday. it's busy around here for the next several days. a lot of weather to keep a close eye on. >> so we get this one two punch. the first being heavier than the second? >> in terms of the sunday monday storm compared to thursday, yes. the wednesday thursday storm will not bring us much rain. but it will still bring a decent amount like 1-3 inches bay area wide from this first one. we could get an inch on that wednesday thursday storm so these are the storms you want. they make a good improvement on the drought. the holidays could be a challenge for those who struggle
