administration today on his administration's efforts now fuelled by the covid variant. there were 253,000 covid cases yesterday. the most since last january. president biden will be tested tomorrow after coming into contact with a staffer who later tested positive. >> the staffer was around the president for about 30 minutes on air force one. he has tested negative twice since sunday. meanwhile, the first omicron-elated death reported in harris county. he was unvaccinated and had underlying health condition. >> this virus is spiking cases across the country and here in new york as well with long lines for people to get tested.

>> the omicron variant, less than a month to become the predominant strain. the cdc said it was responsible for 73% of the country's new cases. in some areas,he number can be higher. >> that is steeper than anything we've seen previously. >> washington d.c. with an indoor mask mandate. los angeles canceled in person new year's eve and new york city may follow suit. >> it moves fast. we have to move faster. >> the cdc says unvaccinated individuals are 20 times more likely to die from covid. than all those who have received all their shots. some health care workers said they've decided to stop trying to convince those.
