it's not clear why he did that, but the tiger bit down, and officers then shot and killed the rare animal. there are fewer than 200 malayan tigers left in the world. "usa today" is reporting on death threats received by browns quarterback baker mayfield after playing poorly against the packers on christmas. mayfield is downplaying the danger. >> we're in a world today, a society that there's a lot of keyboard warriors that, you know, make empty threats and things like that. i try not to listen to it because those are not the people that i would listen to whether it was good or bad. >> the threats were initially revealed by mayfield's wife in an instagram post. police and team security were forced to intervene. mayfield's performance capped a rough month for the quarterback. he missed two weeks after a covid diagnosis and arrived in green bay just hours before the game. he's faced injury troubles all season long. and finally, "the chicago sun times" says the search on s on for an alleged gunman after a

police officer was killed in ilinois. darius sullivan is accused of murdering sergeant marlene rittmanic at a comfort inn about 60 miles outside chicago. the officer and her partner were responding to a report of a when they were attacked. lot - the other officer remains in critical condition. police are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to sullivan's arrest. coming up, the latest on a massive tesla recall to correct a potentially dangerous malfunction. this is the "cbs morning news." news."

ramped up its travel warning for cruise ships to the highest level. the action comes as cruise ships operating in american waters have reported about 5,000 covid cases to the health agency between december 15th and the 29th. that's a major jump compared to the first two weeks of the month when 162 cases were reported. the cdc is warning the risk of catching the coronavirus on cruise ships is very high regardless of your vaccination status. on the ground, tesla is recalling nearly half a million of its vehicles due to technical glitches that may cause accidents. the automaker says there's an issue with all model 3 cars made between 2017 and 2020.bl separate blocking the rearview camera feed. a majority of model-s cars are also being recalled due to issues with the front trunk latch that could result in the hood opening unexpectedly. and get ready to put in overtime at work. holiday debt is hitting home this year. according to a recent report by lending tree, americans owe more

our top stories -- the fda plans to broaden eligibility for pfizer's covid booster shots for kids ages 12 to 15. they could be qualified to get the extra shot as soon as monday. and crews in colorado are rushing to get a handle on wind-fueled wildfires burning outside denver. tens of thousands of people have been evacuated as the flames engulf ever flooding their path in boulder county. hundreds of homes have been destroyed. at least seven people have been injured, including a first responder. spices can be found in just about every american kitchen, but a new study reveals that some spices may contain more than meets the eye. naomi ruchim reports. >> reporter: most of us shake spices on our food and add them

"consumer reports" found there could be problems with some of them. >> of all the spices that we investigated, one-third of them had concerning levels of heavy metals, lead, cadmium, or arsenic. chief scientific officer james dickerson says "consumer reports" tested 126 herbs and spices from 38 different companies. in every brand of oregano and thyme, concerning levels of heavy metals were detected. the metals were also found in almost all brands of ginger and basil tested. and in around half of the paprika and turmeric brands. studies have shown that exposure to lead, cadmium, and arsenic can be damaging over time. >> for children during early stages of development, this can impact their neurological development as well as the respiratory development. >> reporter: spices are often grown overseas where contaminated water can lead to heavy metals in the soil. the american spice trade
