it is much calmer out there this morning with the exception of the north bay mountains it is still windy. for the overwhelming majority of us, the wind has gone away. as a result, it is much colder. concorde, 39. santa rosa, 34. we can take a look at where the wind still is. a 30 mile-per-hour gusts up on mount st. helena. that is the way it was day for the rest of your sunday. daime s ar th60s. ba y. firefighters are slowly getting the upper hand on a reference her wild for burning near the bixby bridge. the colorado fire has burned more than 1000 anchors. the fire force about 500 people to evacuate their home on friday night.

we spoke with fire experts who say the most alarming thing is that it started well outside of fire season. >> reporter: firefighters say it is uncommon to fight a fire this size during the winter. california's fire season is you around. it was burning near scenic big sur. the colorado fire reese to historic bixby bridge. firefighters did not see any damage to the bridge. the fire broke out near the palo colorado canyon. >> we had wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour. everything is so dry it a love this fire to spread very rapidly. >> reporter: the national weather service says monterey county had a good amount of rain, but there was no measurable rain in january. this area has little or no fire history. >> it is unique because in january we generally don't have

a lot of fire. >> reporter: given the fact we haven't had rain all january and a big wind event, offshore wind event. typically in the fall but not in january. it is something that is quite surprising. >> reporter: even though there was a lot of rain, dr. clements says several years of extreme drought means there is a lot of dry fuel out there. >> if we pick up our snowpack in the sierra in february and march, we might get back to normal. >> this is a year-round thing now. we anticipate it could get worse. >> reporter: because of the constant threat, people should stay vigilant and be ready to evacuate at all times. kpix5.

the cause of the fire is still under investigation. there is no estimated date for full ntainment. in the north bay, high winds help fuel the brushfire above geyser peak. a burned about 1.5 acres never radio tower. there are no reports of injuries or damage to equipment. 49er fans, last night's game felt like they were destined to lose and they never let up for one second until the end. that is what made their come- from-behind field goal so amazing. they sent the packers packing. here in the bay area, it was a welcome moment. fans spilled out onto the street briefly blocking traffic . there were reports of sideshow activity in that area.

everyone else was able to celebrate here in the bay area. here is some of their reactions. >> reporter: this entire block was bursting with emotion all night long. when the niners pulled out the victory, the crowd erupted with cheers. that exploded with joy when the niners took down the packers in the snow at lambeau field. it ended the season for green bay. the score was 13-10. >> that kick was unreal. that is what we expect out about niners. every time we see him kick the ball. >> reporter: the niners are headed to the nfc championship. >> the whole reason we won is because of community. look at all these people. they are having a great time.

>> reporter: there was standing room only at the board room and north star cafe. >> i get here and they tied it. we got really excited. it was awesome. >> it is a pretty big deal. i have been a fan of the niners since 84. it is exhilarating. >> i didn't know how to control myself. it was an incredible way to end the game. >> reporter: it was a what this packers fan wanted to see. >> it should've been 17-3 at halftime. you lose a game, but you move on. what are you going to do? >> reporter: the niners will face the winner of the bucks game.

a covid outbreak at a homeless shelter in santa rosa has exposed more than 120 residence to the virus. three dozen cases at the city- owned shelter was reported. there was a covid outbreak last summer when the delta variant first arrived. no more folks will be taken in until they have confirmed two rounds of negative tests. the children's discovery museum and the public health department are holding a vaccination clinic for families. anyone who takes advantage will get a free family past for a visit. for more information about covid testing we have provided a complete guide on a website and www.kpix.com . the oakland museum of california will hold the program inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the imagination of black artists looking toward the future.

strict welcome back. the city of burlingame is moving forward with a controversial plan forcing restaurants to pay a fee to keep their parklets. this is owners tell us they have a tough decision ahead of them. >> reporter: whether of burlingame avenue or broadway, parklets have become an integral part of the downtown landscape. >> it is good for the businesses. >> reporter: some of the more than 40 parklets that have popped up are starting to disappear. parking spaces have

replaced the parklet in front of this faith. he says he to down after the city of burlingame decided they would move forward with instituting parklet operating fees. >> we looked at our budget and our numbers and we could not afford. >> reporter: they will charge are in fee of $1500 and a monthly cleaning fee of $250. it will cost around $4500 per year for a parklet. >> we set up the parklets as an emergency measure to give relief during the pandemic. >> reporter: the city wants a richer businesses are truly utilizing the parklets the take out valuable parking spaces. >> we have had complaints from merchants that the restaurants are taking up parking spaces their patrons would use. >> reporter: he says he could've handled the $1500 rent

the temperatures have gone back to doing what they do which is all the cold air settling and sinking down into the valleys. livermore, 36. just as cold for the tri-valley and concord. there is a little bit of wind and the north bay mountains. single digit wind speeds for the rest of us. even the winds up in the mountains of calm down by the afternoon and evening . there is a lot of calm showing up there. low to mid-60s with more blue sky today than anything else. it is a weekend and if you're thinking about going to the beach, be careful. there is a beach hazard statement that will stay in effect until monday afternoon. dangerous sneak your, sneaker waves. and just to help you visualize,

if you look at the wave energy out in the pacific there is that line of higher wave heights that gets here in the second half of today. this is why that beach hazard statement has lasted so long. that might be a focus going into tuesday. if you are at the beach or if you know someone who does, get the word out about that. you've got to be careful. anything else coming from the pacific like rain? forget it. it is all going to alaska. that is just what january jones. another way to visualize that, a big block of high pressure calling all of the storms to go up and over read. this will evolve and move around and maybe the weekend. now it is over here. by friday, that might allow some systems to work their way towards us, but it does not

welcome back. thank you so much for joining us. let's start does have our with a quick check of our weather with meteorologist darren peck. >> a much quieter morning out there. no wind advisories or wind warnings. we are waking up with the calm started this day. temperatures have gotten colder as a result of that. as we leave behind a look at oakland looking off toward the east, we will put on some numbers here and get updated on the rest of the forecast. we are 39, concord. 36, livermore. it is cold. if we wanted to find any wind, it is up in the north the mountains. everybody else's waking up to calm conditions. for the rest of the day, that is the way it will stay.

mid-60s with sunshine. back over to you. the red cross says the nation's blood shortage has reached a critical level and is warming, warning about the san jose sharks teamed up to offer an incentive for people who donate. here's the story. >> reporter: they have been holding an annual blood drive here for more than 15 years. today's event came at a time of unprecedented need. >> we should see about 250 to 235 donors today. the average blood drive is usually closer to 30. >> reporter: it wouldn't be the first time the blood was shed and a hockey arena. sharks fans were asked to donate at a time when the entire country is suffering an acute blood shortage. >> we tell people, if you are

healthy and well and able, come on in. we really need you. we have been in and out of critical a lot. i don't know any other way to put that. last week i was putting emergency last-minute lead drives to bring more in. >> reporter: covid has prevented a lot of lead drives and as a result, hospitals are postponing are canceling surgeries. they love seeing her show up to donate. a special universal blood that is so clean it can be used by prematurely born babies. he enjoys donating, but he admits he traveled to san jose because of his love of sports. >> they are offering to raffle off 70 pairs of tickets to a sharks game. i am excited about that. >> in addition, six lucky donors will win a grand prize

>> reporter: three new cdc studies mark the first real- life data on the effects of boosters against omicron. >> these new study should erase any doubt about the importance of boosters. >> reporter: the research has enormous scope. if you are boosted you had a 90% chance of avoiding hospitalization. in comparison, getting only two shots was 57% affected. when it comes to the sickest of the sick, if two doses but no booster, you had a 38% chance of avoiding a trip to the e.r. with a booster that jumped to 82%. boosters offered better protection against catching omicron in the first place. top medical experts believe the definition of what it means to

documents from two companies. >> the administrative subpoenas were served thursday morning to community wellness of america at crestview clinical laboratory. as to why, the city attorney. >> it is only an investigation but the fact these two companies have not been forthcoming with us on what is happening is very troubling. >> reporter: as omicron search, so two crowds seeking to get a covid test. community wellness set up two free tables in san francisco including this one in front of mission high school on dolores street. inside the biohazard bags, test kits with swabs in tubes with stickers identified crestview clinical laboratory. as to how the companies are connected -- >> we have heard laips of they should and this is why we need more information

. >> community wellness set up a table in front of this natural foods in fairfax. the store told kpix5 they did not want them there. public health officials shut the site down sing it was on authorize and violated this is codes. the san francisco mayor says it is critical to vet these type of pop-up sites. >> it is important that we have testing capabilities throughout san francisco the people can trust. >> the city attorney has many questions and is looking for answers. >> we are concerned about members of the public that are not receiving covid test results that are valid. we don't know what's happening to the information being used and how these operators may be being reimbursed by governmental authorities. >> reporter: the u.s. department of health and human services has donated money for testing for uninsured americans.

shot into the window. they were booked into the detention facility. is santa rosa pharmacy worker is recovering after she was beaten during a violent robbery. it happened on mendocino avenue. two men jumped over a partition and demanded cash and pills. when one of those workers cannot open the safe quickly enough, the robber attacked her . here are the photos. about 18 years old and nearly 6 feet tall. both ran off with money and medication. the injured worker is expected to be okay. hundreds of san francisco portraits there's commemorated the 49th anniversary of roe versus wade with marches through city streets. that landmark establish a constitutional right for abortion. there is a possibility the

supreme court will overturn roe v wade and are considering a mississippi law banning abortions after 15 weeks. the majority of them signaled they are inclined to uphold the law? >> i think that we will end roe v. wade very soon. that is our prayer and our hope. this mississippi case should fall. >> we will have a lot of victories this year as the supreme court reconsiders whether or not the people should decide whether or not the children in the womb should be protected. >> if it's overturn it would be a major shift from a 1992 decision to stop states from banning abortions before 22 weeks. governor gavin newsom and his wife marked the 49th anniversary with the virtual rally. it was broadcast on twitter and facebook pages a plan parenthood affiliates of california.

in the south pay it was down 32%. sleet and snow made for a slippery landing for a delta plane and north carolina. atlanta safely and friday night at raleigh durham but as it was going to the terminal it slid into the mud. all 19 passengers were able to board buses to get to the terminal. the airfield was closed for 90 minutes after that mishap. let's get caught up on a morning that is noticeably colder. with the absence of winds, the temperatures have been able to drop . many locations are in the 30s. you don't have the wind, so that is a nice trade-off. we will start out with concord at 39. 36, livermore. 34, santa rosa. our inland valleys are cold once again. we will watch the wind play out

to the remainder of today . it is still windy in the north bay mountains. it is calm and santa rosa and if you look across the rest of the bay area, it is a much calmer start to the day. we will leave behind the wind story because it will be called for the remainder of today. the colors are starting to shade in the map that would indicate where we would get more noticeable wind. daytime highs in the mid 60s. a few high clouds. the other item that needs to be discussed about today is one that you might not be thinking about. the national weather service has issued a dangerous sneaker wave advisory. it covers the entire coastline of the bay area and will to the south and the north as well. to help you visualize, if you look at the wave heights, watch

that line of higher energy in the pacific coming into the california coast. this is the route monday. there is another one coming behind it and we will give that one more time to play out. it is possible you might need to think about this for tuesday night into wednesday is that next surge of more wave energy comes toward the coast. plenty of storms that there are causing this. the wind energy is translating our way in the pacific but what about the rain? all of that is going to alaska. we see signs of this pattern starting to break down over the next six days. notice how much closer the rain gets to california. we see it work its way into northern california. we will let ago into the first few days of february.

when we look at where we've got measurable rain at least now we are seeing it in your rica and that is an improvement. we were not seeing it get that far south over much of the 3.5 weeks of january. it is nice to see that pattern changing. it doesn't look like a strong enough signal to put rain in the forecast but we increase the clouds going into friday and saturday and we will watch those developing and not just northern california. right now, just clouds by friday with reason to stay on top of the forecast. if you've got outdoor plans next weekend, we will let you know if there is rain likely. >> in the near-term the wind has moved out and the fire hasn't grown all that much . >> the latest report is 1050 acres and that hasn't writes since yesterday at this time. the report has gone down a little. for now, we can take that is

get this. the game of cricket is the second most popular sport in the world. why that could soon change with a new stadium here in the bay area. >> this is the first major step as santa clara county opens up an agreement with majorly cricket. they can start the whole planning and design process that can take a couple of years. this is far from a done deal but at this point, it's look pretty good. >> reporter: it has been use as a counties covid testing site. the parking lot across from the fairgrounds has been 14 acres of dirt and asphalt. perhaps not for long. the second most popular sport in the world is coming to northern california. >> it is tremendously exciting for critic in the bay area.
