6:14 am
it makes sense when you look at the numbers, look at that big of 32 that stands out for livermore, 32 in the tri- valley, and 30 at santa rosa which is quite cold. 29 the latest report from the sonoma county airport. and as you would expect with temperatures that cold, all we have to do is overlay the visibility on top of this, and that is where we have trouble spots. petaluma down to one mile, santa rosa down to 1.7 miles in terms of how far you can see down the road. 10 mile visibility about everywhere else. okay for the majority of us one thing to watch on the futurecast is a detailed overview on how long it takes this stuff to disappear. keep your eye on a patch of clouds filling in the valley of sonoma county, just as you get to the marin county and sonoma county line, also the clouds for the central valley. it takes until about 11:00, and then by late morning the skies clear out and it looks better bay area wide. after a beautifully blue sky day with the typically winter

haze, a deck of higher come just in time for sunset, so we get another pretty sunset tonight as a result. and that will help keep tomorrow morning loads relatively warm but that is the story for monday morning and we might have less fog as a result. daytime highs coming back up into the low to mid 60s were about everybody. nice and relatively warm. what is the one thing to watch for this week? offshore wind. by the time we get into monday night and tuesday you will see that signature show up, you see other streamlines have reversed direction and now they are clearly bringing this is an offshore wind through northern california. let's come home and watch a closer. it looks fine through this afternoon, then a dramatic turn getting into monday. the windstream takes the wind offshore and it peaks the north bay mountains, 40 mile-per-hour guest from mount st. helena, it will be 34 at mount diablo at that point. this is tuesday morning here,
6:16 am
that is just the start. it stays that way through the day tuesday and intensifies a little through tuesday evening. we will probably still be doing with the offshore wind event as we get into wednesday. both days this will be a factor in the mountains. and if anything else, if it doesn't make it terribly wendy down at the lower elevations where we live, but the offshore wind will continue to dry out the landscape, and that sets us up going down the road two weeks from now for the next offshore wind event, if we have not gotten rain, the landscape will be somewhat more vulnerable it watch what happens in the long range, taking the accumulated rainfall from now well into february, we will let this map play ahead until february ninth. by that point we are still looking at a scenario where we have not gotten rain. the long-range forecast beyond that continues that theme. we will not be seeing a whole lot. a few high clouds with daytime highs in the low to mid 60s and
6:17 am
no rain. that is the forecast for san francisco, oakland, and san jose. across microclimates a similar story plays out. that is the focus of the first alert seven day, and again first alert forecast as we remind you off the top of the forecast, that is our commitment to make sure if anything happens in the weather that is important enough to make sure that you know about it with notice ahead of time. we are committed to making sure it gets done whether it is that day, three or four days out. >> i listen to every word and i write notes when you do the weather forecast. you said to watch for fog on the drive, and i did not see it and i got run into the city.>> good observation. the focus has continued to be the north bay valleys, so santa rosa and petaluma you have more than yesterday, but on the peninsula and the south bay it is as clear as it was for saturday morning. >> the sunshine had not come up at the skyline was available with a little fog.

6:44 am
mount diablo. that is fine and all just mid- level clouds. no fog on the road. in the north bay it is and also it is colder. 28 right now and on the thermometer for center as it is 32 in livermore. you see the spread and once again inland valley is looking for temperatures in the low 30s, if not below freezing. and the numbers in the bay low to mid 40s, big differences in terms of how it will feel because of that. and in the coldest areas we have developed the most issues with fog. typical scenario down to less than half a mile visibility for both petaluma and santa rosa. on futurecast you see the low clouds, you see sonoma county here him and a little patch for the east bay. this forecast model does a beautiful job of depicting where the clouds are right now, that gives us a hot high degree of confidence is will play out the next hours. by the time we get to 11.00 a.m. it is gone. most of today is blue sky but watch at sunset. we pull in another deck of high

clouds. two things, gives us a pretty sunset. but it also have warmer temperatures in the overnight hours are going into monday morning. we might have to deal with a little bit less fog as a result of that. stay on top of that if you are a early monday morning commuter, you know how the fog can behave. daytime highs today, low to mid 60s with that blue sky. the main issue, if there was going to be one this week, it is the offshore wind. now it doesn't look significant enough for now that we would spot it as a first alert forecast day yet. and that is where we really draw attention to significant impact, but, this is not necessarily the case. however, it is a offshore wind event, look when we look at it on the localized high- resolution right here. that is tuesday morning in the northbay mountains, 40 mile-per- hour gusts at the higher elevations, and stronger as we
6:46 am
go into tuesday afternoon and evening. it is not necessarily terribly windy where we all live at the lower elevations, this is a typical offshore wind, the strong wind over the peaks. what this will do more than anything else, because it will be relatively warm and low humidity, they will dry out the landscape, setting a soft for the next offshore wind event and should come at any point over the next two weeks that will be an issue, because there is no rain coming. so we will dry out the mountains more, making them a little more vulnerable by the middle of february if we do not get any rain by the middle february. and you can hear the frustration in my voice, we are not getting rain through the middle february at this point. that is the way the long-range forecast is looking, great weather if you want to get out and enjoy it, do it, a beautiful blue sky and hazy conditions, you know the real. but there is no rain, and we missed out of most of january, and at this point it looks like we will miss out on at least
