rest of the day, upper 60s for inland locations. there is your take away as you look across the bay. 64, fremont. san rafael, 62. back over to you. a disturbing story out of the east bay. a man is dead after a shooting in oakland. this shows the traffic jam after authorities shut down all lanes for more than four hours. the driver were shot near the broadway offramp at 5:15. his car veered to the right into a guard rail. all lanes finally reopened at 10:00 last night. no one else was hurt. struck amanda milpitas has confessed to killing his neighbor. as we report, they did not have

to go far to find that body. >> reporter: neighbors tell us they feel safe in this neighborhood which is just one third of a mile from the milpitas police department that they often leave their door unlocked. they never imagined a horrific crime could happen. >> i was just dumbfounded. >> reporter: the mystery began to unfold on monday when they got a call from a relative of the woman that lived the number 18 at the mobile lot of milpitas. >> the victim was concerned. >> reporter: they knocked on the door and check, but there was no response. the next morning officers spoke to a man that lived directly across the street from number 18 . he had scratches on his arm and agreed to go to the station for questioning. officers obtained a search warrant and they found bloody sheets. he was charged with

murder. police dogs located the victim's body buried in the dirt. the neighbors were stunned by the development. >> we learned through the neighbors that they heard a female screaming in the early morning on saturday. butt he has confessed and told milpitas pd the murder happened early saturday morning, something that lines up for neighbors. they heard screaming at 4:00 a.m. but assumed it was no ways from nearby milpitas boulevard. >> we will be praying. >> we did not know where the voice was coming from. >> reporter: he is in custody at the santa clara county jail and he was formally charged with murder on thursday. new questions in the case

against a man arrested after a 49er fan was found unconscious. and oakland restaurant owner remains in a coma. we explained why getting a conviction could be a challenge. >> reporter: many have been sending their well wishes to daniel luna and a hospital tonight. there are questions about whether the suspect may actually claim self-defense. the case of the van that was punched at sofi stadium seems to be moving forward as inglewood police say they have a suspect. 33-year-old. >> officers went to a location and he accompanied them to the inglewood police department. >> it was knocked unconscious outside the stadium and video shows that luna pushed the suspect first. that makes a potential criminal

case complicated. daniel luna a chef and restaurant owner is in a,. detectives say it shows luna pushed the suspect and then the suspect pushed back eventually punching luna and knocking him to the ground. >> this was a one punch two chef altercation. the greatest damage was done because he landed on the back of his head on the pavement. >> if it is a person contest, that is hard to win. if there were any possible defenses, those are going to be hard cases to prosecute. >> reporter: that could present a challenge for the prosecutor. he spoke with his mother who told him she was a, relieved an arrest have been made. >> i was thankful that someone was hopefully being held responsible for the situation.

and hopefully justice will be served in that capacity. >> reporter: detectives are presenting their case to the district attorney's office and it will be up to them whether to pursue it. electronic billboards have gone up for a missing woman that vanish under suspicious circumstances. the 24-year-old hasn't been seen since january 26. her car was found abandoned with the keys in the ignition. they also say her phone is either off or not working. of -- he is accused of conspiring with the founder to defraud patients, customers, and investors about a failed blood testing tech knowledge he. she faces a decade in

prison when she is sentenced in september. a live look toward the port of oakland where a battle has been resolved. the city is ready to settle pending lawsuits with companies wanting to build a cold terminal and west oakland.ed transferring and handling coal and other harmful commodities at the terminal. the mayor called it a tremendous victory. the city council still has to sign off on that agreement. a smoky fire at the test look car factory in fremont. investigators are looking into what caused it. fire officials say the flames charred pallets of cardboard and other packing materials and that is why the smoke from that fire was visible for miles. and here is a view from the ground. overnight to continue

checking for hotspots to make sure it did not flareup again. contra costa county is the longer requiring residents to show proof of vaccinations when dining out. here is the reaction from diners and businesses. >> reporter: a busy friday night here at the plus up. many including some of the business orders did not know that health order had been lifted. >> starting tonight contra costa county lifted its health order to check everyone's vaccination status. this owner refused to follow the order when it took effect last september >> we are not in the business of policing people's personal beliefs what ever they want to do is fine. we are in the business of getting food out and making people happy. >> reporter: places like it are now close locations in contra costa county rather than to

a live look at san francisco. we are getting a sense of when more workers will return to downtown office buildings. here's a report on the omicron delay. >> reporter: the bay area cancel has administered a survey throughout the bay area for the past 10 months about the return to the office plans. many employers figured david be in their new normal in march or april. many estimate that is looking like may or june. kelly is with the bay area cancel and says the omicron variant was a set back for timelines. >> we saw a month or two regression due to omicron. about 37% of the workforce was still remote which is 10% higher than we have seen in november and december. >> reporter: what didn't change is what many companies sink their new normal will look like. >> a three day week norm was consistent.

by the dozens due to the wild winter storm. we report on this storm's impact on air traffic. >> reporter: the weather has been pleasant and san francisco, but a major storm dumping ice and snow across much of the northeast is forcing thousands of flight cancellations across the country. tonight at sfo there were 45 cancellations and 80 delays. this storm is hitting the east coast and causing disruptions at major airport hubs in the u.s., mostly in the northeast. in the south, the roads were treacherous. one drivers struggle to get his vehicle on the road as multiple vehicles will stranded by heavy snowfall. in new york the governor urged people from going outside. >> we have snow, freezing rain, sleet, icy roads. >> reporter: in the deep south,

we don't see any storms coming our way. the headline is quickly becoming how warm you will notice next week is. temperatures will climb well into the mid and upper 70s. let's start out was saturday morning. you can see those mid-level clouds sitting over the city and out over the bay. temperatures are relatively warm and we haven't had to develop much fog. 35 right now and santa rosa. 36, petaluma and livermore. low to mid-30s everywhere else to go. you won't notice a big difference here. it is very much like what we have been doing. high clouds and upper 60s. that is the number for the south bay. the number for the inland areas is the same. temperatures in the mid-60s. up into the north bay, low 60s

there and your seven day for mendocino and lake county. the high clouds we've got out there will stick around until 3:00 in the afternoon. just in time for those last few hours before sunset. the skies should clear out. we don't get is pretty is sunset when that happens. the let the clouds make you think they will be like that all day. storms are all out here. they have to go up there. they are getting rerouted around us. we are missing out on the rain. the other thing which is still persistent, it is not as strong as it was for several times last week but there are offshore winds moving across california. watch what happens in the north bay mountains. those are winds that come from the central valley and blowing off the tops of the peaks out

toward the coast. this is not the kind of thing that would bring out a wind advisory or a red flag warning. as long as we keep doing that, there is a constant low dryer on the mountains. warmer winds blowing over the peaks of the mountains to what is becoming an increasingly dry period for ross with no sign of rain for the next two weeks. not a good sign in terms of the landscape for fire weather. it is consistently dry offshore winds. as far as your seven day forecast goes, low to mid-70s in san jose. 75 by wednesday, thursday, and friday. we will hit 77 for the daytime high for the warmer north bay valley spots by the time we get to the next coming week. >> i feel like we have this

open up more of this park to mountain bikers and decriminalize directivity. >> reporter: the looks on their faces tell the story. they admit that they were off the designated trail, but this kind of crackdown? >> they see people coming down the trail and then they ticket, ticket, ticket. >> reporter: the police chief says it was justified. >> it was off limits and posted . the environmental damage taking place was at a point where we were going to issue citations. >> reporter: the battle over drug use has been going on for decades. more people on bikes, foot, and people have been using everyone is crowding onto the same paths. mountain bike riders say there is a network of trails that

drivers across the country are feeling the pain at the pump . the price per gallon is at the highest it has been in nearly a decade. >> reporter: do you think gas prices are high now? they can be higher this memorial day. optimistic drivers are leaning on the saying that what comes up must come down. fon years the national average for one gallon of gas hit $3.42 today surpassing the last record high in 2014. >> emily powers is on the road almost every day and fills up her fuel tank twice a week >> i work two jobs and i can't cut back. i have to drive every single day.

>> reporter: over the last couple of months her gas bill has been about $80 more out of her wallet a month. >> i used to be like $30 and now it is over 50. california holds the record for the highest cost of gas per gallon and $4.67. a year ago it was $3.43. drivers in san francisco will pay $4.82 per gallon in san jose coming in slightly cheaper and $4.73. >> i don't get it. i bring more lines with me to work instead of eating out. >> reporter: tensions between russia and the ukraine is causing the price hike. the president vowed to bring down the price at the pump. according to gas buddy, we could be paying an average of four dollars per gallon this

spring. oil prices to go down slightly at the end of last year when the omicron variant threatened to bring down demand. when that didn't happen, oil prices went up again. get ready for this. a major airline is offering something for free. delta is offering to check your bulky carry-on bag for no charge. it aims to free up overhead in space. southwest is bringing back the alcohol. they will resume on board alcohol which was on pause for much of the pandemic. it will honor coupons from 2020 and 2021 through this year. a classic view from our camera this is in the hills up above the south bay. take a look across mountain view and palo alto and san mateo out toward the bay. it is hazy out there.

it looks pretty from above it but when you're down and it not so much. a day of moderate air-quality and you will be able to see it again today. in terms of their quality, it is moderate. it certainly moderate in this area. there is redwood city looking at moderate. the same with the tri-valley. san rafael, it has good air- quality but the forecast is moderate. it is good in this hour but here is your takeaway on the air-quality for today. it will stay in the moderate category likely for much of the next several days. it's in the mid-to upper 30s and the north bay. mid-40s for the south bay. we will warm-up for the daytime highs, but these efforts will get noticeably warmer. by the time we get into the second half

of this week, we could be 10 degrees warmer than the numbers on the screen right now. that is probably the headline. a noticeable warm up for much of next week. today and tomorrow just like what yesterday was. no real change. temperatures in the mid-60s. there will be a little bit of variation in the bay. it will be a bit cloudy for the first half of today. we've got a lot of clouds we softened that camera and there is a lot of high clouds out there right now. that help to keep us warm overnight. by the time we get into the later afternoon, those clouds will be gone and we will clear them out and get more sunshine. probably not as pretty of a sunset because we won't have that campus of clouds. at least you will get more blue sky. look at the storm track. everything doing the up and over

the same pattern that is kept us out of the storm track for quite a while. the total accumulated rainfall between now taking us ahead to february 12th. there is nothing here. the pattern is not changing. if anything, it is doubling down. we've got a warm-up about 10 degrees warmer than what we have been doing for the second half of this week. we will be in the low 70s for oakland as we look across the microclimates here tri-valley, concord, low 70s. the north bay valley is warming up into the mid-70s by the middle of this next coming week . >> the weather is mild and beautiful, but we do need the rain. >> that huge help that we got in october and december, those numbers are falling back to average quite quickly.
