i'm anne-marie green. the city of los angeles is celebrating this morning after the rams rallied to defeat the cincinnati bengals in the super bowl. it's the team's first consecutive host to win the e title. danya bacchus is in englewood, california, with all of the highlights. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, anne-marie. it was a star-studded affair here at sofi stadium from the celebrities in the stands to that history-making halftime show. but it was the rams who battled back to take home the lombardi trophy. the rams come-from-behind victory triggered a night-long celebration across southern california. >> the chips were against us. the defense went out, and we still won. >> i'm happy. you can feel it. it's tangible. look around. i'm happy for the city.

>> reporter: the party followed the team's thrill 23-20 win over the cincinnati bengals. after trailing most of the second half, the rams took the lead with less than a minute and a half left. >> pass caught -- got it. touchdown. >> reporter: quarterback matthew stafford connected on a one-yard score to cooper kupp, named the mvp. >> it's been the perfect team. perfect setup. so thankful for everyone that's behind around me. i don't know if it -- it still hasn't hit me. >> reporter: the rams' 36-year-old sean mcvay became the youngest head coach to win a super bowl. >> this was really satisfying to see these guys and to see the looks on their faces. to be able to do it in the house that mr. kroenke built is special. >> reporter: the rams are the second team to win a super bowl on their home field. more than 70,000 fans were in the stands here at sofi stadium. the halftime performance was as star-studded as the game. dr. dre, snoop dogg, kendrick la mar, eminem, and mary j. blige were in

the first show built around rap and hip-hop. the halftime performance was my favorite part of this game -- besides, of course, the fact the rams bringing home the win. also get this -- rams' wide receiver van jefferson didn't have much time to celebrate because his wife reportedly went into labor mid game. he rushed to the hospital later posting holding their baby with the caption "times two." >> he's having a good day to say the least. i enjoyed the halftime show, too. danya bacchus in englewood, thank you. so breaking overnight, the busiest u.s./canada border crossing has reopened after protests over covid restrictions closed it for nearly a week. canadian police arrested the last demonstrators and cleared out vehicles blocking the span late yesterday. the ambassador bridge normally carries 25% of all trade d -- between the two countries. the blockade impacted both sides at the border, especially the auto industry.

>> was there a safety concern yesterday because it felt like you had a 24-hour staring contest with the protesters. >> i certainly wouldn't call it a staring contest, but it was communication and dialogue between the police and the protesters involved. time is on your side. >> canadian officials have not yet cleared out the much larger protests that have paralyzed the nation's capital, ottawa. also breaking overnight, we are learning of the death of "ghostbusters" director ivan reitman at his home in california. he directed and produced some of hollywood's most beloved films including "animal house" and bill murray's first starring role in "meatballs." his biggest success came with the original "ghostbusters" movie in 1984 which spawned a franchise. he also directed "twins" and kindergarten cop." his family says he died peacefully in his sleep. ivan reitman was 75. as tensions heat up between russia and ukraine, sources tell

cbs news the u.s. is preparing to withdraw all u.s. personnel from kyiv within 48 hours. president biden spoke with his ukrainian counterpart yesterday saying the u.s. and its allies would respond swiftly and decisively if russia invades ukraine. more than 130,000 russian troops are staged outside ukraine, adding to fears of a possible attack any day now. christina ruffini has the latest. we have seen over the course of the past ten days dramatic acceleration in the build-up of russian forces. >> reporter: with almost all the forces it would need poised on ukraine's borders, national security advisor jake sullivan said a russian invasion could happen at any time. >> diplomacy is still open and available, but if russia chooses to move, we're prepared to respond. >> reporter: the u.s. has threatened unprecedented economic and political consequences, but so far that threat hasn't stopped moscow's massive military build-up.

>> things are sort of building now to some sort of crescendo opportunity for mr. putin. >> reporter: saturday's phone call between presidents biden and putin produced no major breakthroughs. the state department has told all americans in ukraine to leave the country immediately. but the streets of ukraine's capital are calm, and president zelensky says the biggest threat to his country is panic. cbs' imtiaz tyab is there. >> reporter: in the capital kyiv, life is carrying on pit much as normal with most ukrainians believing it's the kremlin who wants them to live in fear, something they refuse to do. >> reporter: but the u.s. says if russia makes a move, kyiv will be at risk. a full-scale invasion would come from the north to isolate the capital and other major cities. the east where most of ukraine's army is located, and the south where russia is beginning live fire exercises that blanket almost the entire coast. now despite criticism from republicans on the hill and the ukrainian government, the white house says it is still holding

back pulling the trigger on sanctions because it's using them as deterrents against russian aggression. christina ruffini, cbs news, the white house. the end of the coronavirus pandemic could be in sight. dr. anthony fauci says the u.s. has almost reached the end of the full-blown pandemic and could soon hit immunity levels that would limit the virus' spread. the u.s. is averaging about 175,000 new cases a day. that is the lowest level in nearly two months since omicron surged throughout the country. but there's a delay in vaccination efforts for children younger than 5. the fda called for the delay saying that it needs more data from pfizer before moving forward on approving doses for the youngest kids. pfizer expects to have that data in early april. and a new cbs news poll shows 33% of parents would vaccinate their children under 5, while 31% say maybe. 34% say they would not.

coming up, flight diverted. an american airlines flight is forced to make an unscheduled stop after a passenger allegedly tried to enter the cockpit. and later, a statement during the super bowl halftime show. rapper eminem takes a knee after his performance. this is the "cbs morning news." then i got the dexcom g6. i just glance at my phone, and there's my glucose number. wow. my a1c has dropped over 2 points to 7.2. that's a huge victory.

landing at kansas city's airport. the flight took off from los angeles to washington, d.c., yesterday, but authorities say a passenger interfered with the flight crew. witnesses say the suspect tried to break into the cockpit and also attempted to open an exit door. he was subdued by the flight crew and some passengers. when the flight landed, the fbi and police arrested the man. no one was hurt. "the washington post" says new mexico's democratic senator ben ray lujan is doing well as he recovers from a stroke. >> i'm back on the road to recovery, and i'm going to make a full recovery, i'm going to walk out of here, i'm going to beat this and will be stronger once i come out. >> reporter: he posted that video next to two doctors and speaking out for the first time since suffering a stroke last month. the 49-year-old underwent coves expectedtakeelling on his t sate floor in time vote on president biden's

are saying "i do" this year, it will cost you more. diane king hall is in new york with those stories and more. good morning, diane. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. stock futures are pointing to a flat open as investors gear up for another uncertain week amid ongoing tensions in the ukraine/russia crisis. later this week we'll get a read on consumer spending as retail sales are released. friday the dow jones industrials tumbled 503. the nasdaq slid 349, and the s&p 500 dropped 85. guacamole lovers won't be able to get a popular avocado. the u.s. government has banned imports of all mexican avocados after an american inspector in mexico received a threat possibly related to a drug cartel turf war. the surprise suspension came at a bad time for mexico's avocado industry. just before the super bowl when they bought a pricey tv ad. american consumers will still be able to get u.s.-grown avocados. walmart is making a major change to its coronavirus policies. the retail giant will no longer

require fully vaccinated workers to wear masks in stores unless they're mandatory under law or state rules. the change affects sam's club workers also. walmart has 1.6 million u.s. employees. unvaccinated workers will still will have to mask up. the policy change comes as a growing number of states announce plans to ease mask rules. if you're planning a wedding this year, get ready to shell out more money. the reason -- more couples are ready to tie the knot after two years of a pandemic. that's driving up costs for venues, deejays, planners, florists, and photographers. an estimated 2.5 million weddings are set to take place, the most since 1984. costs are up 10% to 15%. the average price tag for a wedding is expected to be about $27,000, up from $24,000 pre-pandemic. and i got to say, even with rising prices, if someone's getting married in new york, that would be a steal. >> that's what i thought.

here's a look at the forecast in some cities around the country. ♪ [ cheers ] ♪ 50 cent dropped in for a surprise appearance during yesterday's super bowl halftime show. he started his performance singing "in the club" upside down, re-creating his iconic video. the show also included a powerful moment from eminem as he ended "lose yourself," the artist took a knee and held his head in his hand. the gesture was an apparent tribute to former 49ers quarterback colin kaepernick who took a knee during the national anthem to protest police brutality during the 2016 season.

the nfl denied reports that it tried to stop eminem from dealing. comments came in a super bowl interview with nbc news news, the president saying -- >> the whole idea that a league that is made up of so many athletes of color as well as so diverse, that there's not enough african american qualified acthnfl it just ems e that d att to le upom roger goodell said that the league fell short by a lot on hiring black and minority s.goodell'mmentsollod a lawsuit by former dolphins coach brian flores. he sued the nfl, three teams, and unidentified individuals alleging discrimination and racism in hiring practices. a lot of people watched the

"kindergarten cop." his family said he died peacefully in his sleep. he was 75. >> reporter: for the first time since the january 6 capitol, what's expected to be the largest criminal prosecution in u.s. history. >> reporter: guy reffitt of texas who has pleaded not guilty is one of a handful of defendants accused of carrying a gun amid the mob january 6th. he's an accused member of the far right 3%ers group and one of just a few dozen who's been jailed while awaiting trial. he's also accused of telling his children if you turn me in, you're a traitor, and you know what happens to traitors -- traitors get shot. >> the department of justice needs to win this case. if it loses this case, if it messes it up in any way, there' the department of justice. doj would look bad. >> reporter: pretrial hearings begin this week with the trial scheduled for february 28th. cbs news has reviewed the justice department's witness

list which includes reffitt's children, capitol police, a secret service agent, a senate staffer, and a man whom the feds call a fellow member of reffitt's texas 3-er militia group. reffitt's lawyer did not comment to cbs news. defense attorney david betowitz who handled other january 6 cases says it's no surprise it took more than a year to begin the first trial in a covid backlog courthouse, corralling a fire f firehose of events. >> we're getting items and trying to parse out what one person did or didn't do. >> reporter: among those watching the trial, the closest the other u.s. capitol riot defendants. this is the first time the feds will be showing their cards, and if the prosecutors win a conviction, they also win new leverage against hundreds more defendants to come.
