area on sunday, primarily late afternoon and into the early evening hours and looks like tomorrow evening is when the heaviest rain is going to fall across the bay area. this is what we have in the seven-day forecast. the best chance, the best widespread and heaviest rain is going to be around and lingers off-and-on showers on monday and through most of next week. we're waiting on the rain, the temperatures today, samevairiation we have seen the past few days and mid-50s along the coast. a mix around the bay and temperatures farther inland spot 70s. near sent for the north bay and the santa clara valley with mid- and upper 70s inland in the east bay. the fbi is investigating several officers from twotra costa county police departments. the fallout could affect many legal cases past and present. ryan yama mo to reports. >> reporter: i think you will

see search warrants being conducted. cell phones grabbed. >> reporter: the district attorney's office conducted a court-authorized activity with the fbi at multilikes on friday. this is after the pittsburg police got a continue in september that an officer was involved in illegal activity and asked the d.a. to look into it. >> a lot of toys if the district attorney feels there could be a conflict of interest, they will often times ask for federal distance in the case. >> reporter: a total of three pittsburg police officers are on leave with an undisclosed number from antioch. the allegations described as groups of moral terpd you to. >> they will come out with, you know, what they're looking at specifically and the charges that are being brought against the officers. they're not going to do it until they have their ducks in a row. it's important that it looks as though they're being fully transparent. >> reporter: the former prosecutor and kpix legal analyst stove clark said the fallout from the investigation could stretch back years.

>> reporter: all of officers' cases will be scrutinized. a big issue for all of the defendants have be to be affected by this. you have to go back and reverse engineer the convicts. >> pittsburgh police wrote in an online post that any officer who violated their oath of office by engaging in illegal orupethal conduct will be held accountable. antioch police talked to the mayor who said the city is cooperating with the investigation. hearings have wrapped up on whether scott peterson will get a retrial in the murder of his pregnant wife lacy. as kpix 5s max darow reports, it could be months before we hear from the judge. >> reporter: witness testimony wrapped up and whoever getting a sense of when we will learn if scott peterson gets a trial or not. the attorney pat harris and the rest of his defense team continued their effort to show rochelle nose was biased against peterson and denied

him of a fair trial. her attorney was the final witness to satisfy. legal analyst paula cuny said the burden of proof is on the defense. >> you have to show that she lied with the intension of basically torpedoing the defense and that is the tough, the tough heard will for the defense. >> reporter: peterson was present in the courtroom per all five days of witness testimony. he did not spoke. his sister-in-law janey peterson, who maintained his unoness is for years, did spoke to reporters after proceedings concluded. >> this is not a situation where scott would have an opportunity to speak or share. i think he's hopeful that the convict will be overturned. justify if the judge rules, he gets a retrial and a completely new murder trial. if denied, that won't be the end of there will absolutely be poles based on that denial that will go true the california courts as well as the federal

people are waiting for the financial help and public hearings are set for next week. the port of oakland is facing a new lawsuit over a controversial plan to build an open air sand and gravel plant. a company called eagle rock aggregates wants to put the facility on 18 acres of property. an environmental justice group filed the suit to stop the project. they claim that west oaklanders suffer four times the pollution level of other parts of the city and that the company has not done enough to address the potential health impact. the port declined the comment on the pending suit but said that the projects an opportunity to diversify tenants. >> mean tomb, new rules to reduce pollution from harbor craft could help people in west oakland breath easier. the california air resources board updated the regulations to decrease diesel emissions from fishing boats, tug boats and ferries. the resource board said the change is expected to save

backing up into the cost by lunchtime. the bigger champs occur through the day on sunday. an approaching storm system will send rain and gusty winds towards the bay area by sunday. we'll get through the first half of the day without troubles. by late sunday afternoon, sunday evening, the forecast looks wet and wind. we'll look at it on future cast. the fog into the coast and lunchtime. a mix of high cloud cover and sunshine the rest of the day. nice over there overall. the clouds thicken through tonight. the rain is off of the coast. the sun comes up on sunday morning. the first showers making their way by late afternoon and with the most widespread rain moving in during the evening. some locally heavy downpours and, even outside chance of a rumble of thunder. i would be surprised if i heard any of those and that rain is pushing into the east into midnight iter night. that rain is the first wave and we'll track another wave on monday morning. it looks like the bulk of that

department and $20,000 for experienced officers. those considered a lateral move from another department. in both cases, the money would be paid out over four years. >> and people aspiring to become officers are home grown. >> reporter: city leaders say they hope to address the shortage by tapping into the talent poll of those already pursuing a career in criminal justice, like students here at cal error error statest -- cal state east bay. >> passion is what gives them a foot up in the field. they're positioned to the go into these careers. >> reporter: while the pandemic may have affected the job market from many industries, city council member mark salinas said a couple of factors are unique to the bay area and this profession. >> the biggest challenge is not even law enforcement related. it's the cost of housing. >> reporter: he acknowledges the attitude toward police officers may us be a part of the problem for departments across the country.

madness. da len, san francisco, kpix 5. and as many bay area residents struggle with a high cost of gas and food, one food bank is stepping up to help. yet launched the 2 million meal challenge as betty yu tells us, a record-breaking donation can help them meet that goal. >> reporter: the food bank of contra costa and solano said that it's serving more people than ever. since the start of the year. >> the impact of the pan damage sick not over. there are a lot of people that even if they employed, fell behind on their bills and rent and having trouble getting back to square one. >> reporter: the president and ceo said it was helping an additional 100,000 people each month since the pandemic began. and during this crucial time, the food bank just announced a record-breaking donation to help it meet the community's need. the danville based educational foundation is pledging a $500,000 match. the largest ever in the food

bank's 47-year history. board member doppler williams came up with the idea. >> i heard about the people, the percentages of people in contra costa and solano county that don't have the money that i do to eat. i like challenges. i always feel that someone puts in, they get more out. >> reporter: williams will match dollar for dollar every donation up to a half million. if the match is met, the $1 million in funds will provide 2 million nutritious meals for the community. >> grocery inflation. food prices, especially in proteins, dairy and it's like ten to 12%. that makes a difference. >> reporter: the food bank itself is feeling the pinch of higher foods and food costs and relies on several 18 wheelers to distribute food to partners, schools and pantries. the 2 million meal challenge runs through may 31st. >> i am one of the lucky ones
