consequences. thank you so much for joining us. we will get to those stories in just a moment but we start with this developing story. six people are dead and nine are wounded from a shooting in downtown sacramento. people scramble to escape and multiple ambulances were sent downtown to care for the injured . a large police presence will remain and the scene remains active. good morning. another nice day today with a few low clouds in the forecasts. it will be cooler than it was yesterday. a high pressure lurking at the bottom of your screen will have implications by the middle of the week. tonight, it will cloud up in the north with maybe a sprinkle or two. midweek, 80 degrees inland. today we will have 60s and 70s.

details on the warm-up coming up . a group of mothers are unfailing a billboard warning tourists to stay away from san francisco. they say a drug crisis is endangering locals and tourists. >> reporter: mothers of addicts are putting a spotlight on the drug crisis plaguing san francisco. they are buying ads to remind people and san francisco is known for his open air drug market. >> my daughter did not go to san francisco for the embarcadero or to see the golden gate bridge. she went to san francisco to buy or drugs. >> she fears the late-night calls. >> every single night it is wondering and worrying. >> reporter: her 24-year-old daughter is an addict.

>> her father has been pushed to the brink. her father had to go pay off the drug dealer at one point for her safety. >> reporter: some in this group have lost their children to overdo's. they will the message famous the world over for our brains, beauty, and now, dirt cheap fentanyl . they are warning people to stay away from san francisco. they are fed up by the lack of action. >> you have to get rid of the open air drug market. as an addict, either offer jail or treatment. >> reporter: public health

officials say that the other overdose deaths since 2015 in san francisco . more than 1300 deaths in the last two years. >> we did not know about this topic. >> i don't go to those areas. >> reporter: gina hopes to bring the issue to the forefront . >> we are desperate as moms, all of us, and we need health. >> she is working to stay clean. kpix 5. san francisco travel association responded. this campaign doesn't punish the city but only hurts the small businesses struggling to recover from the pandemic. there is a major fentanyl bust in fresno county . police say the group flooded the county with thousands of pills laced with fentanyl . >> it identified a network of

distributors that gained fentanyl . >> i cannot emphasize enough how deadly this drug is to human life. these pills are often sold for dollars apiece. sake san mateo county is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of a person that attacked an elderly man. video shows the moment a suspect kicked and 84-year-old man to the ground. it happened right outside of his front door. he got scrapes and bruises on his arm from that attack, but his family is worried he is being targeted. the same man may have attacked her father back in september. if you have any information, you are as a call the police department. a look at the moments before pittsburgh officers shot an armed man last month.

>> police say the 28-year-old fired a shot and into the air several times after officers came to the door. officers were there to help an elderly couple get out before bringing and we enforcement. police drove an armored vehicle to the front of the house and then hernandez walked outside with the rifle and that is when the situation escalated. >> show us your hands. show us your hands. >> police say hernandez pointed his rifle toward the officers and fired. an officer shot hernandez in the torso. he was arrested and hospitalized. the da's office is investigating hernandez. he is facing multiple charges including attempted murder.

and now to the war in ukraine. russian missiles hit the southern city of odessa for the first time. explosions and fires were visible at the break of dawn. he says civilian buildings were damaged although no one was hurt. the russian military says that he oil refinery and a fuel depot that has been supplying ukrainian troops. and details are surfacing and reporters are finding a lot of wreckage and destroyed russian tanks and armored vehicles. it is not clear if russian forces have left kyiv for good . dozens of protesters rallied in front of san francisco city hall on saturday. the concern is plans to redraw

neighborhood counties. why residents want the redistricting task force to take a new direction. >> people from across the city are concerned they are headed in the wrong direction and spoke at the hearing inside city hall and rallied outside for the issues they care the most about, protecting marginalized communities and making sure neighborhoods are not split apart. >> reporter: community organizers gathered at a hearing on saturday worried that most of the mass proposed would hurt people of color and other minority groups. >> we have seen a deliberate effort to silence the voices of communities of color. we are saying no more. >> reporter: members of the task force acknowledged the work at tasks hard and realigning the district so each one represents the same amount

l train is trying to lure writers back and offering a 50% discount on fares for the next month. it comes after the fiery crash and bruno were more than a dozen people got hurt. here's more. >> reporter: with the omicron wave and that fiery train crash in san bruno behind us, caltrain continues their push to get more passengers on board. >> caltrain is discounting all fares by 50% for the entire month of efforts to incentivize more people to ride the trains. more employers are bringing people back to the office and more events are happening across the area including 10 home games for the giants. he writes the train a few times a month and has noticed the trains are getting a bit more crowded. >> i feel like more of the

seats are getting full. >> reporter: this man who rides several times a week has noticed the same thing. caltrain ridership stats back those observations up. in january they average 9000 passengers per week date and in february 11,000 per weekday. they are waiting on the final figures for march but the preliminary numbers show the positive trend should continue. >> i think more people are going to work. >> i think that gas prices have something to do with it and people are more comfortable being in a close space with others. >> reporter: though the increase in ridership shows promise, there is a long way to go in terms of caltrain's recovery. at the pre-pandemic p, caltrain had about 5000 passengers per weekday. they will resume their regular service. in san bruno, kpix5 .
