the fire reportedly started in

the lumber area. the cause is not known because investigators haven't been able to get inside the building. 100 firefighters and 30 units responded to the scene. primary goal was to evacuate 35 employees and dozens of customers. flames engulf the building after the fire was reported around 5:30 last night. officials told residence to shelter in place and close windows and doors to minimize exposure to smoke. the chief talked about the challenges his team faced. >> flammable materials, plastic lawn chairs, a large store. challenges as far as that went, also the wind this afternoon was significant as you saw when you got here , the fire plume blowing towards the south. we deployed units because of the embers and in the

neighborhood south and to the southeast to make sure we weren't having homes catch on fire. >> the flames did not spread to a vent clinic and pet campus next door. those facilities sustained smoke and water damage. the employees and pets had to be evacuated. concerned bystanders stepped up to help. we caught up with two people that jumped into action on their way to the mall. >> we were headed to oak ridge mall to buy some tea and my husband said let's see if we can help with the animals. we went inside and started opening the doors and we took them out to the back. the there was a bunch of people helping gather animals. >> i helped with her. we opened the cages to help make sure they got out in time. >> the roof of the home depot collapsed. firefighters remained on the scene and have neighboring

the conveyer belt transporting petroleum cook on to a ship. it looks like black dust. the san francisco bay keeper shared drone footage of black streets floating near the fire. officials say the coast guard and u.s. fish and wildlife are mon norring the environmental impact. it engulfed the wooden dock. >> over the dock is concrete. what is burning is the wooden structure and making it difficult for firefighters to defeat the fire. >> reporter: workers moved the ships docked at the port. they are relying on the fire boats to fight the stubborn fire. big flames and black smoke billowed into the sky. fortunately, the winds pushed the smoke away from this wedding happening above the fire. the bride and groom weren't

expecting this kind of fireworksen their big day. >> thankful god is blowing it the other way we are getting a lot of coverage of the fire. >> thank the lord, we are good to go. >> reporter: firefighters say parts of the wooden dock are destroyed. they use the dock to ship toyota and subarus to this region. no comment when i asked if this will worsen the problem. >> it will be an economic impact to imports. >> reporter: despite the fallout, officials say there are no injuries and health concerns for residents. >> it's unclear what sparked the fire. firefighters need to put out the flames before investigators

the expected high winds were just a breeze this morning, when scott and susan got their neighbors together for a wild fire safety chat at their green beret home. >> we want our house to survive if there is a fire in the neighborhood. >> reporter: todd told the neighbors he was shocked last year when he saw the warm dry winds begin blowing in may. >> seeing the conditions in the first week of april is unusual and it's a warning to us all. >> reporter: landdo took a tour of his home which has become a model. it meets the house, the wood fence replaced with steel sheeting, the garden mulch ends five feet from the side of the structure replaced by rocks and hoses are marked for firefighters use. ceramic tiles are laid against the foundation and horizon surfaces on the side fence

the seafood eatery started a as fish stand in 1925 and moved to stall number 8 in the 30s. business was booming and became the first build on a wharf selling fresh crash and shrimp cocktails and served soldiers during world war ii. rough seas are creating challenges for the coast guard as it tries to rescue a disabled containership. the 564-foot vessel adrift 7 miles west, two tug boats and towing vessels are trying to keep the ship from hitting shore. the captain reported losing engine power friday afternoon. the ship was carrying 21 people and hundred containers. good morning, we should be off to a mostly sunny start, more high clouds today, cooler than it was on saturday.

change. that's weather. here is what is coming up. two 16 year old girls are home safe after a terrifying ordeal. they got caught in a rip tide and swept out to sea. three fishermen returning after a day of salmon fishing who may have saved two young swimmers from drowning. >> thank god we were there. nobody behind us and there were no boats coming out. it would have taken a half an hour to get there. you can't last ten minute and the 16-year-old friend were at the beach thursday when they were swept out the sea bay rip current, lifeguards say they were in the water for 30 minutes, water temperature was 53 degrees, hypothermia was setting in.

>> we came, the poor little girls were so cold. i grabbed the first girl and helped her up. she was so cold. she collapsed on the deck. >> the fishermen may never have come across the girls had they not decided to stay to the water longer to catch a 6th salmon. they caught that big fish and came across those girls at just the right time. >> it was a close call for the girls. they didn't have a lot longer. neither one of them could stand up. the one young lady said she couldn't feel her legs. they didn't have a lot of time left. everything worked out as well as it could have and the stars aligned for them and for us. it was a wonderful experience. >> felix cortez reporting. the girls were checked by
