details on the string of crimes in palo alto overnight. we are getting a clear picture of what happened. five oakland police officers , a judge says they deserve their jobs back. >> it feels awesome. at the same time, it is scary. from holidays to spring break, lots of people traveling and getting together this week. with covid cases climbing, should i be concerned? let's check of our weather. it is raining out there this morning and widespread for everybody. this is the most impressive part of the whole day in terms of rain. if we come in and take a closer look and stop on the last frame, there is a lot of yellow from the north bay to the south

ray. we've got a few more hours to go here. if we put it into the future cast, look at that well organized line going from napa to the east bay. that is the best organized part of this whole system. we take that and push it off toward the east. we do not turn the rain off completely until noon today. it will keep raining from now until then. we have already picked up .2 inches of rain. two more rain chances are coming . i will have both of those outlined in the seven-day forecast. new details on investigations into an armed robbery last night in palo alto. a man was held up in his driveway at 6:15.

a suspect pointed a gun and demanded valuables while a second suspect pointed a gun while inside her car. they sped away and a black two door sedan. police believe the same suspects have been casing a patagonia store. and a different car was involved at a stanford shopping center around 7:00. two suspects were peering into windows of parked cars possibly looking for items to steal. of 59-year-old oakland woman has been found shot to death in her home. people who knew her called them saying they hadn't seen her in a few days. she had been shot multiple times. her body was found inside a home near garfield park.

so far, it is unclear when she died or who may have killed her. the man accused of killing a man that killed the bay area security guard faced a judge yesterday. he was arraigned on charges of murder and assault for his role in the man's death. he has been tagged as the shooter in the case. of four suspect is on the run. reporters were not allowed in the court room but kevin's wife spoke to news crews begging for the publics help. >> it is the duty of the living to do so for them. >> kevin work for a company that provided security for tv news crews. he was a veteran of several bay area police departments and known for his love for harrouff's job. a judge is ordering oakland to reinstate five officers fired over the deadly shooting of a homeless man in 2020.

the judge is accusing the city of manipulating a key report in that case. >> reporter: the five officers involved in the shooting death of joshua pawlik were fired back in 2020. a judge says they should be reinstated with back pay. >> get your hands off the gun. >> reporter: the city fired the officers over the shooting. joshua pawlik, a homeless man, was asleep with the gun between two houses. he woke up and tried to raise the gun. opponents dispute that. the officers fired 22 shots killing joshua pawlik. the officers sue to get their jobs back . the city hired an attorney and that attorney sided with the officers saying they followed department policies.

the judge asked the attorney to amend his report and revises the terminations as recommendations. city employees asked the employee to make it look incomplete. the judge said they violated their own policies and needs to rehire those officers they wrongfully fired. >> i was shocked that they attempted to change a report or parts of a report to water it down and suit their agenda. >> reporter: a former oakland police chief questions can people trust them on other employment cases. >> what this is due to the city's credibility? >> there is a serious lack of trust right now. >> reporter: the administration is disappointed by the court's order. we believe we adhere to the agreement and believe the court erred in finding out otherwise. police are afforded due process in any process

>> i do not believe officers deserved that. >> the mother of joshua says those five officers did not give the sleeping son enough time to understand what was going on before shooting him. >> this should not have gone on as long as it went on. >> they are going to have to give it some thought. they have a lot of close friends in oakland and there is a bond there that they would like to return to their friends and work there again. >> four of the five officers are working for other law enforcement agencies. at police headquarters, kpix 5.

>> the city has not said whether or not it would appeal that ruling. and now to the latest on the war in ukraine. there have been scattered attacks at kyiv even as they have a new offensive in the east. the defense ministry is vowing to intensify attacks following the loss of a russian flagship. it was hit by two ukrainian missiles before it sank in the black sea. officials in ukraine say they need more weapons. >> if ukraine does not receive all necessary weapons within days and not weeks, that will mean more people and more civilians will be killed >> ukraine's president is asking president biden to designate russia as a state

sponsor of terrorism. the remains of more than 900 civilians have been found since russian troops withdrew from the area around the capital. russia sent a diplomatic note to the biden administration warning that further shipments to ukraine could bring unpredictable consequences. the holiday weekend getaway is underway. from spring break to religious holidays, people will be gathering all over this weekend. how concerned should we be with covid cases taking up? >> reporter: millions of people will be traveling this weekend as multiple holidays converge. they are tried to make up for time lost. it is a holiday weekend the likes of which we haven't seen in a very long time.

the edge. he pulled himself up with the help from a firefighter and rope system. and unidentified good samaritan is being called a hero. in the middle of the flames someone rushes in and even explosions to pull a person to safety. ashley says that she knows the person who lives in that car. she saw the car go up in flames and tried to help but it was too dangerous. a stranger ran into save the man's life >> it is a blessing in disguise. whoever did it, they don't need the glory for it because they know they saved his life. >> reporter: the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. taking a live look outside, we are getting some much-needed rain across the bay area. we learn how much this much- needed rain will stick around for. >> probably until noon.

the best of the rain pretty much right now. it started around midnight. let me show you how much we have gotten while you were sleeping. first alert doppler is working well this morning. just this morning we have picked it up .7 of an inch. palo alto, down in the south bay has gotten .3 inches of rain. we've got and just about as much rain in the santa clara valley as we have anywhere else. if we go back to first alert doppler, widespread rain. it was a nice direct hit on the whole bay area. we will take the showers from where they are now that organize yellow line right there shows up in the future cast. that is where the best of the rain is. every play at forward to see

how things quiet down. by the time we've gotten to 9:00 a.m., stragglers leftover down along the peninsula. by the time we get to noon, it is done. you will clear out and get more blue sky today than anything else. it is really right now and thankfully were not looking at a saturday morning commute. give yourself some extra time on the road. we pick up another 10th of an inch of rain and it is warm out there. clouds are doing us a favor like a wet blanket and we will stay in the mid to upper 50s. grab your umbrella. it will be the opposite yesterday. we climb into the mid-60s which is a exact repeat of yesterday. we will get much bluer skies today and the temperatures will be in the mid-60s. the snow will keep falling in the sierra.

not an easy day to travel. once we get past sunset, you should be better. if you've got to travel, i would wait until tomorrow. if you've got to go later tonight, caltrans will have gotten the passes fairly workable. you will need change throughout today. there is the next one. that one will get here on tuesday. light showers but only the first one. the tuesday rain does not look that impressive. we can see that system out here. it comes in a little too far north. the one for thursday, that one at this point looks more promising. we will not fall for it entirely just yet. i will show you what it looks like. thursday could be interesting for better widespread rainfall totals. on tuesday we will get something. it will be less than .1 inches of rain monday night into

tuesday. on thursday, the totals go what . we are looking more like .5 inches of rain. and we put another 6 inches down in the sierra. we could get three feet on thursday. that is where things stand in the forecast model. let's give thursday some time to play out. here is today's rain. we clear the system out and get sunshine. on monday the rain arrives late . it will be monday night rain. it will be tuesday morning rain before thursday showers and you can see that same story playing out. tomorrow, we are back up near 70 . >> i wasn't surprised by the rain on the drive-in but i was surprised by its intensity. getting all of this snow late in the season has got to be good news for the drop picture.

>> it is better than nothing but the landscape in the sierra is so dry we are going to lose a portion of that runoff. that is good for fire season. it pushes fire season back several weeks. by the time we get to september and october, i don't think this snow that we're getting right now will make any difference. it is too little too late unfortunately. is been more than 2.5 years since the kincade fire tore through homes and sonoma county. prosecutors announce the 20 million dollars settlement from pg&e. fire victims wonder what is next for them. >> the fire came through on october 27 and then we basically had five houses and all eight barns burn to the

ground. they collapsed. we had nothing left at that time . >> the oak ridge ranch has been in her family for more than 100 years. it was all reduced the foundations in about one hour. the rebuilding process done in part with debris from the fire has been slow. >> this barn here, we just got that rebuilt about two weeks ago . >> reporter: it has been costly. the family had to burn through their savings insurance only covered $.30 on the dollar. >> in paradise you would've had a break right here. >> this since the criminal case for the fire and comes with payments of more than $20 million, money that will go to the county and local nonprofits .

live from the cbs bay studios, this is kpix5 news. thank you so much for joining us. let's start with the check of our weather. >> this is a kind of rain this morning that is able to get it everywhere in the bay. normally were not getting much down to the peninsula and the south bay. that is the san mateo bridge, and you can see how wet it is. you can see how widespread this is. that is a system with great aim to get us some rain this morning . we can see where the showers are now. we have seen the best of the rain that the state has to offer. we have to get to the next three or four hours before it turns off. we put it into future cast and most of that goes into the sierra.

what happened while you were sleeping. a lot of rain in the north bay. we picked up about .3 inches of rain in palo alto. so often it is hard to get rain in the south bay. there is so much of it, let's get as many other locations as we can. napa in the north bay got .75 of an inch. meanwhile, san jose got 7/10 of an inch of rain and it is raining on the san mateo bridge. that is a good example of how this looks. you can see the best of the rain having moved off to the east. there are showers off of the coast and future cast sees it all. later into thrning, still raining. it is down along the east bay and the south bay. by noon, the last of the

showers clear out. not much in the way of clouds for the second half of the day. upper 60s. we are in the upper 50s now. it is one of those scenarios where the clouds have kept us pretty warm. you don't need a heavy jacket but grab your umbrella. daytime highs go up to where they were yesterday. the second half of today will be nicer than yesterday. today we have blue skies and mid-to upper 60s. it will keep snowing in the sierra. at 6000 feet it will stop snowing around 6:00 this evening . if you've got to get into the sierra, go later. go after 9:00 and give caltrans some time to clear that up. tomorrow will be a great day to travel. here comes the next chance for rain on monday night. it is more so tuesday morning.
