morning at the intersection of lombard and fillmore. a wide suv driving down lombard slammed into a muny bus. six people were hurt, some of them passengers, the other on the sidewalk. all six were hospitalized, two with critical injuries and one driver was detained. now on to a huge development for the parents of young children. as early as next week, kids as young as 6 months old are now eligible for their first covid shot. the pfizer and moderna shots cleared the final hurdle today with a final signoff from the cdc. pfizer's three-dose vaccine regimen is for children age 6 months to 4 years, while moderna calls for two shots for kids up to 5 years old. a bit of a earthquake today in the south bay near morgan hill not far from the epicenter of the 1984 morgan hill quake that measured 6.2. today's was just a 3.4, centered

east of anderson lake. it was felt in san martin, gilroy and san jose. ♪ can you feel it? excitement building for the warriors' victory parade. the dubs made a triumphant return, a little hung over, touching down at sfo after partying big time on their nfl finals win. on monday they'll be parading through downtown san francisco with loyal fans by their side. it is the warriors' first victory celebration since moving to san francisco. it will stretch nearly a mile and a half down market street monday morning. and you can catch all of the parade and the champions with us, our live coverage begins at 9:00 a.m. on cbs news bay area on kpix 5 starting at 10:00. another reason to celebrate juneteenth. it's under way a bit early across the bay area.

the holiday commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the u.s. kpix 5's shawn chitnis has more. >> reporter: celebration and reflection. people who came here to the museum of the african doiaspora says it was the perfect combination for juneteenth and they're glad to see more people are taking part in the country's newest federal holiday. ♪ a mardi gras marching band. just as you would see in the streets of new orleans. ♪ performing on mission street. and leading a crowd into the museum for a juneteenth jubilee. just one of many reasons to come to moab this saturday. >> you don't see a lot of museums of african heritage let alone the african diaspora. we're seeing a global perspective on black people. >> reporter: a striking perspective under one roof,

trying to capture the struggle of black people throughout history, as people came together in person to celebrate the journey they've made to the present. >> it's a great way to join with our community and bring people in to learn about black art and black celebration. >> reporter: elsewhere in the city, a festive spirit with a car parade going through different neighborhoods. as well as a freedom celebration taking over several blocks in the fillmore district. >> juneteenth has become such an important holiday because it really marks this final end to the institution of slavery in the united states. >> it feels great that, you know, we're seeing more public institutions reflect on and celebrate juneteenth. >> reporter: while there is plenty of progress to celebrate in the new history of this holiday, some of the museums say it's the first step toward freedom that actually achieves equity for all. >> i think the best way to

celebrate is just be black. take a moment to bask in that and the fact that it was once a very hard time to be black. >> reporter: reporting in san francisco, shawn chitnis, kpix 5. walnut creek police are investigating a smash and grab at a macy's department store this morning at broadway plaza. police say three men smashed jewelry displays with hammers. the suspects got away with watches and drove off in a white honda sedan. no employees or shoppers were hurt. the air was clear in sonoma county today but memories of the deadly wine country fire are still raw. today about a hundred residents came together for a drill aimed at saving lives. kpix 5's john ramos was there. >> reporter: the 2018 campfire wiped out the town of paradise and became america's most deadly wildfire in the last 100 years. but there are places here in sonoma county with the exact

same conditions and they're trying to learn the lessons from that disaster. when the campfire began tearing through the town of paradise, even those familiar with the area became lost in the terror and confusion. >> we can't even see. we don't know where the fire is. so please, please, please pray for us that we get out of here okay. >> reporter: 85 people died in that inferno, some while trying to flee. and those who live along sonoma county's winding, tree-lined highway don't want the same thing to happen to them. >> we drive the road every day in and out. but it's a different situation when you're actually trying to run for your life. >> reporter: so this morning, the county staged a wildfire evacuation drill for residents living in the small towns of c cassadero and fort ross. the potential for fire haunts the most experienced firefighters. >> it's definitely scary, the

lightning complex fires. we had a fire on the west side, a fire on the east side. one wind shift and it would have come through the canyon. >> we are starting the exercise. it's a go for the siren for fort ross. [ sirens ] >> reporter: with that a siren back echoing through the canyon and sheriff's cars headed into the neighborhoods, blasting their distinctive high-low warning that there is danger in the area. >> that means it's time to go, time to evacuate. >> reporter: cars began leaving and came upon a familiar choke point. the highway shrinks to a single lane due to a flooding washout five years ago. this is the kind of place where panicked drivers could find gridlock as fire engines approach from the opposite direction. >> at that point it could turn into quite a cluster. >> reporter: if fire were already in the area, it could spell disaster. which is why officials beg people not to wait until the last minute.

>> people need to leave when there's a warning, not wait for the evacuation order. because when the evacuation order comes out, it's almost too late. >> reporter: this morning's drill ended at the community center in the nearby town of monterio. rebecca honeyman said the experience was empowering and will serve her well if and when the experience arises. >> i've tried to imagine what it would be like but when you see the fire footage, there's nothing left to imagine, you have to get up and go. >> reporter: john ramos, kpix 5. still ahead. >> support for ukraine has not wavered. what one south bay organization is doing differently to support children living through war. take a look at this, hundreds of corgis in san francisco. we have the sights and the sounds of the return of corgi con. we kind of warmed up a little bit today. still ten degrees below average. look how the reds start to shade

looking live at capitol hill now where bipartisan gun reform could be in jeopardy. lawmakers are at odds over the legislation and there's a concern they could miss their deadline. an tree i can't bore about an asked a north bay congressman what could end this logjam. >> reporter: a group of senators came together including a filibuster-proof ten republican senators, came together to announce a framework on a deal for gun control measures. with a self-imposed deadline nearing, there is a snag including two key sticking points. >> as a teacher, i've imagined that scene in my own classroom,

again and again. >> reporter: speaking to the national pta convention friday, first lady jill biden implored congress it take action on gun control. >> we need to fight now for the lives of our children and for the safety of our schools. >> reporter: the previously announced framework included enhanced background checks for gun buyers under 21 and new school funding for mental health and security programs. but so-called red flag laws and the boyfriend loophole have become points of contention, causing lead negotiator senator john cornyn to change his tune to a hostile crowd back home in texas. >> but i will not under any circumstance support new restrictions for law-abiding gun owners. that will always be my red line. >> reporter: some republicans like fellow texan ted cruz are expressing concern about the inclusion of red flag laws. >> anyone that tries to take away our second amendment rights, i will stand and fight

to defend our liberties. >> reporter: north bay congressman mike thompson, chair of the house gun violence prevention task force, calls both proposed laws necessary. >> we know from data that red flag laws work. they are responsible for stopping tragic mass shootings and they've provided help to individuals who are in trouble. that's as common sense as you can get. if someone is a domestic abuser, it doesn't matter if they're married or not, they're still a domestic abuser, and they shouldn't be able to get their hands on a firearm. >> reporter: thompson says he's been in close contact with connecticut senator chris murphy, trying to help find common ground and hopes the sentiment to change the laws this time around is real. the outline of the deal has been endorsed by president biden and senate minority leader mitch mcconnell but the details still need to be hammered out and

taken to a vote. andria borba, kpix 5. ukrainian troops are fighting back against russian assaults near a key eastern city. and all this comes as a rising tide of global leaders warn that ukraine fatigue could be setting in. but support has not wavered from san jose nonprofit hearts for ukraine, which has been sending boxes of medical supplies to the country in crisis. but there is an upcoming shipment that will come with something extra for kids living through a war. handwritten letters from bay area schoolchildren. a nonprofit sent 15 tons of supplies to ukraine. while people in the bay area are preparing for the heat and fire season, in sierra they're actually getting some june snow. not a lot, but some flakes falling in tahoe. there are some flakes here. i'm sorry.

>> no, that's fine, i'll take it. >> it just came out. >> some thunder bolts on that map. >> that's the thing, it wasn't just the light snow in the sierra. we had some thunderstorms graze napa and solano county, and quite the cloud show today, and we were like 15 degrees below average, what's going on here? this is a little odd for june. first alert doppler shows you those lightning bolts brian just spotted. it's mainly in the sierra. look what happened here at 3:00, 4:00 in the afternoon. it's done now, but there was a line and some of that did strike off some lightning. thankfully we did not get any grass fires, which would be likely at that location, so good news there. but still busy in the sierra. just a quick review on what's going on here. you wouldn't see it at all if you just looked at the regular satellite. that's beauty of looking at the water vapor. now you can see it, low pressure parked right over us. that's responsible for the thunderstorms. it's the reason why we were so cool yesterday and today. you can see that beautiful

counterclockwise spin right over us, cold air getting pulled in. look on the northeast side, we switch over to first alert doppler. that's where all the auction is. those areas of low pressure like that tend to focus the energy on that northeast corner. and that's why we're seeing those thunderstorms still up in the sierra. got some light snow, but the concern would be lightning strikes in the sierra at this point. thankfully, nothing serious to report on that at this point. and there has been enough wetting rain with this that it's helpful in that regard, it's not like it's all dry lightning, good news. in any case, it comes to an end in the next six hours. that system spinning over us is leaving. look at the difference in the temperatures as a result. daytime highs for today, these are the official numbers in, i'm just picking out four representative spots. i want you to see how we warm up. there's sunday. santa rosa goes from 77 today to 85 tomorrow, good example of that north bay warm-up. livermore, san jose, san francisco, now look at monday. monday we go up another big

jump. now it's near 90 in san jose. tuesday is ten degrees hotter, tuesday is really the peak of this in the whole seven-day forecast. it doesn't last terribly long. remember your plans for the weekend. it's going to be nice tomorrow. but don't think tomorrow is going to feel as wonderfully comfortable outside. we'll be average, still pretty nice, mid-80s inland, warmer than today was. then on monday, let's go back to that, kind of a big day. that's the specific forecast for the big parade happening down market street in san francisco. temperatures fine, but it's the sunshine to keep in mind. bring a hat, bring some sunscreen. seven-day forecast shows you the warm-up. san jose, 97 on tuesday. now, if we take a look at the microclimates, low 100s by tuesday. we'll cool down by next weekend. charlie? some college world series
