we begin with new developments about the capitol riot investigation ahead of another pblic hearing today. cbs news has exclusively obtained two images showing british filmmaker alex holder interviewing former president trump and his daughter ivanka. it's part of holder's three-part documentary series called "unprecedented," following trump's final weeks in office. it also includes never-before-seen video of the insurrection. all the footage has been turned over to the white house select -- rather the house select committee which will interview holder privately today. it plans to hold additional hearings next month because of the new footage. trinity chavez is in new york with the preview of today's fifth public hearing. trinity, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. this committee has already said it believes former president donald trump was a part of a nspiracy to defraud the united states. and today they will continue to argue the former president pressured state and local officials to overturn the 2020 election results. day five of the house select

committee hearings is set to reveal how president trump tried to pressure the justice department to support his false claims of election fraud. in its series of public hearings investigating the january 6th capitol attack, the committee is aiming to lay out a trail of evidence showing that even many who were in mr. trump's inner circle warned him that his efforts were unfounded. >> the president's own attorney general, bill barr, said he told the president about these claims of massive fraud affecting the outcome of the election. >> i told him that the stuff that his people were shoveling out to the public were [ bleep ]. i mean, that the claims of fraud were [ bleep ]. >> reporter: among those expected to testify today is former acting attorney general jeffrey a. rosen. the session is expected to examine a january 3rd, 2021, meeting inside the oval office where the president reportedly discussed replacing rosen with jeffrey clark. clark was a lower ranking administration official who supported mr. trump's claims of widespread election fraud. now cbs news has learned the

u.s. capitol police security detail is expected to be expanded for all committee members following a rise in threats. that's according to a congressional source familiar with the matter. it's unclear, though, exactly when the security detail would begin but likely before members head home for the fourth of july recess. >> trinity chavez in new york. thank you so much. and you can watch today's hearings starting at 3:00 p.m. eastern here on cbs news and, of course, the cbs news streaming network. breaking overnight, all six people on board a helicopter were killed when it crashed in west virginia. the chopper used for tourist flights crashed onto a highway in a mountainous area in rural logan county. officials say that the helicopter was on fire when crews arrived on the scene. there's no word on the identity of the victims. federal investigators are trying to determine the cause of the crash. the white house wants to save you a few bucks at the gas station. president biden is asking congress to pause the gas tax for three months.

but his proposal faces an uphill battle even from some democrats. natalie brand reports. >> reporter: president biden is asking congress to give drivers a bit of an off-ramp at the pump this summer. >> i'm calling on congress to suspend the federal gas tax for the next 90 days, through the busy summer season. >> reporter: the federal gas tax is about 18 cents per gallon meaning a savings of $2.70 for every 15 gallons if oil companies were to lower prices by that amount. >> we have to get around. we got to pay the price. >> reporter: drivers say it would be better than nothing. >> every bit helps, but it would be nice if it was more help. >> reporter: but many lawmakers are already putting up a roadblock with even democrats divided. >> it's easy to take away a tax. it's hard to put one back on. >> another gimmick. another band-aid. >> reporter: president biden wants to see individual states implement their own gas tax holiday. analysts say that could have a bigger impact on drivers. >> states generally charge more

than the 18.4-cent federal tax. >> reporter: patrick dehaan with gas buddy cautions the tax holiday could backfire in the long run. >> cutting prices risks americans' increasing consumption which could eventually cause prices to go up down the road. >> reporter: federal reserve chairman jerome powell told lawmakers wednesday that the high energy prices are out of his control. >> there's a little -- food prices is a bit more mixed, but for oil prices they're set at the global level. >> reporter: the energy secretary is meeting with top oil company ceos on thursday to urge them to boost domestic production. natalie brand, cbs news, washington. uvalde, texas, school district police chief pete arredondo is now on administrative leave. he's come under intense criticism for the way he allegedly handled the police response to last month's school shooting that killed 19 children and two teachers. the school superintendent says that he placed arredondo on leave because the facts of what happened remain unclear. officers armed with rifles in a school hallway waited for more

than an hour before entering the classroom and killing the gunman. juul's popular e-cigarette could be taken off the market as early as this week. the "wall street journal" says that the fda is preparing to order juul to stop selling its products across the country. it comes after a nearly two-year review of data supplied by the vaping company which wants to keep selling its tobacco and menthol-flavored product. juul was blamed for fueling a surge in underage vaping before the government banned all sweet and fruit flavored e-cigarettes two years ago. >> if fda continues to ban the sale of the flavored e-cigarettes that are so popular to kids, we have an opportunity to reverse the e-cigarette epidemic before it becomes a long-term problem. >> researchers say a standard 5% juul pod has as much nicotine as a 20-pack carton of regular cigarettes. the desperate search for survivors continues in

described, especially not in the national football league. >> the nfl fined the team $10 million last year after an independent investigation found a lack of respect toward women. snyder stepped back from day-to-day operations. the "los angeles times" says a surfer was seriously hurt in a shark attack along the central california coast. it happened yesterday at lover's point beach in monterey bay. paddle boarders rushed the man to shore. he suffered injuries to his leg and stomach. firefighters launched a drone to search for the shark, but it has not been spotted. the beach will remain closed until saturday. and the "columbus dispatch" says ohio state university won its battle to trademark the word "the" on clothing. the federal government approved the request this week. it allows the use on branded products including t-shirts, baseball caps and hats. ohio state began pursuing a trademark in 2019 after fashion retailer marc jacobs filed an
