america as demonstrations were seemingly nonstop in response to the supreme court overturning roe v. wade. these were the scenes in cities across the nations -- countless people holding up signs and chanting both for and against the ruling which leaves the legality up to individual states. there was vandalism including in lynchburg, virginia. a pregnancy center was spraypained with graffiti. in vermont's capitol, damage at the state house is estimated at $25,000. naomi ruchim has a look at the demonstrations and where things go from here. naomi, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. supporters and opponents of abortion rights are now mapping out their next moves in the wake of reversing the 1973 decision that granted a constitutional their laws. [ chants ] from los angeles to cleveland -- [ chants ]

-- and huntsville, alabama. [ chants ] americans took to the streets nationwide over the weekend following friday's supreme court decision overturning roe versus wade after nearly half a century. >> i feel like i don't have a choice to my own body. >> nobody wants to be stuck in a situation where they're stuck with a pregnancy. >> reporter: in south carolina, emotions boiled over with protesters from both sides of the abortion debate fighting in the streets of greenville. in charlotte and around the u.s. abortion rights opponents celebrated the ruling. >> for the last 50 years, there's been a lot of lives lost under a false ruling by the supreme court. >> reporter: at least 13 states have so-called trigger laws that locked new abortion restrictions into place after roe versus wade was overturned. another 13 are likely to restrict access or enact bans soon. >> women are not second-class citizens. and the government is not the one that will decide about the

continuation of a pregnancy. there's no equivalent there for men. >> what the supreme court said was that the constitution does not give a woman the right to have an abortion. >> reporter: in apparent defiance of justice department guidance issued after the supreme court ruling, south dakota governor kristi noem vowed to bar male order abortion pills while saying women should not be punished for seeking them. in florida today, abortion providers plan to ask a state judge for a temporary emergency intion tstop a new abortion law from taking effect later this week. they argue the law violates right to privacy provisions in florida's constitution. elise? >> naomi ruchim tracking it all from new york. thank you. we're getting a look at how americans are feeling about the supreme court's decision in a series of new cbs news/ugov polls. 52% say overturning roe versus wade is a step back for america, while 31% say it's a step forward.

as they look ahead, 57% say they think it's likely the supreme court will put limits on same-sex marriage, while 55% say they think it's likely the court will limit access to birth control. be sure to stay with cbs news for a special edition of "cbs mornings." we'll have complete coverage of the historic supreme court decision including hearing from a panel of women, some for and some against abortion rights. that's today on "cbs mornings." as the hearings into the police response to last month's uvalde school shooting continue, this weekend a funeral was held the last of the 21 victims. 10-year-old uziyah garcia was laid to rest saturday in st. angelo, texas. he was remembered for his contagious laugh, shaggy hair, and silly jokes. his grandfather said he was the sweetest little boy he's ever known. now to the latest in the war in ukraine. russia is once again targeting the capital of kyiv, launching deadly missile strikes.

ramy inocencio has the latest. >> reporter: for the first time in nearly three weeks, russian missiles hit the capital, kyiv. one was killed, at least six injured including this 7-year-old girl pulled from the rubble. thankfully alive, her father tragically was not. that missile hit the roof of their apartment complex, but it's not the first time it's been hit. the last time was about two months ago. now one possibility is that russian forces are targeting a soviet-era arms factory that's literally this one across the street. >> it's maybe symbolic, symbolic aggression -- >> reporter: kyiv mayor vitali kitscko said it's maybe a symbolic attack ahead of nato's summit in madrid this week where the war in ukraine is set to dominate the agenda. russian targets were also hit today. shattered military trucks and other equipment on fire. these are believed to be the first targets destroyed by u.s.-supplied guided rocket

systems that arrived in ukraine just days ago. city of severodonetsk, ukrainian troops there have been ordered to retreat. russian forces are now trying to take its sister city of lysychank. and if that city falls, and it is expected to, that would mean the entire region will have fallen to russian forces. that would be a territorial loss and a hit to morale for ukraine. but president volodymyr zelenskyy says that every city that's been taken will be won back. ramy inocencio, cbs news, kyiv. thrussian attack on kyiv comes as president biden is in germany for the three-day g7 summit. this morning, leaders are meeting virtually with ukrainian president zelenskyy. meanwhile, the u.s. reportedly plans to announce an advance surface-to-air missile system for kyiv. ed o'keefe has a look at what's taken place so far.

>> reporter: back on the world stage, president biden was asked about the bombing in ukraine. with russia launching fresh attacks, how to respond to the conflict continues to dominate g7 meetings. in march the leaders announced broad sanctions against russia. now they're banning imports of russian gold. >> can't let this aggression take the form it has.p in4.etto vladimir putin's habit of posing shirtless. >> i'm sure there was talk -- >> reporter: the group is also launching a new global infrastructure plan for the developing world. meant as an alternative for developing countries who have relied on china. >> we're offering better options for countries and people around the world. >> reporter: another focus -- inflation. a new cbs news poll shows most americans anticipate at least a slowdown if not a recession in the coming year. and the head the world bank

"the washington post" says about 60,000 part-time soldiers remain unvaccinated against covid as the u.s. army deadline nears. army reserve and national guard soldiers were given until this thursday to receive the vaccine, seek an exemption, or face punishment including being kicked out. the deadline is about seven months longer than any other military service. defense officials said that vaccinating reservists would be more challenging than active duty troops. and the "associated press" says at least 21 people were found dead at a nightclub in

here's a look at the forecast in some cities around the country. ♪ a navy destroyer that sank during the second world war was found off the coast of the philippines. the "uss samuel d. roberts" sits at 23,000 feet. according to explorers, that makes it the world's deepest shipwreck ever located. the destroyer which sank nearly 78 years ago was identified by an american explorer with the help of sonar. at least four people were killed and more than 300 hurt when part of the wooden stands collapsed during a bullfight in colombia. you can see the moment of the collapse on the right of the screen. it took place during a traditional event where members of the public enter the ring to engage the bulls.
