that's expected to break all-time records. after filling up on barbecue, people will will have to make the return trip home where they could face major headaches at the airports. lilia luciano has more. >> reporter: millions are on the move across the nation this holiday weekend. travelers are returning to airports in record numbers but are facing thousands of canceled and delayed flights. >> definitely planning for extra, extra chaos and are trying to check as much as we can to keep moving through the airport simple. try not to lose these two. >> reporter: tsa screened nearly 2.5 million passengers friday, the highest since before the pandemic. that same day, almost a third of flights were late or scrubbed. alam khan was stuck at new jersey's newark airport saturday trying to make his wedding. >> she's waiting in toronto. so we're trying to get married. i'm just going to shoot her a call like, look, babe, i'm kind of stuck here for now, but i'll be there as soon as i can be. >> reporter: to avoid the airport hassle, an expected 42

million are traveling by car, even with steep gas prices. the national average for unleaded gas is $4.81 a gallon. in california, it's $6.24. keeping many stress and headache free at home for the holiday. >> i'm trying to avoid it at all costs. the way california is, stay home. >> that was lilia luciano reporting. we are getting a look at new police body camera video showing the moment ohio officers shot a black suspect more than 60 times during a chase. we do want to warn you, some may find the video disturbing. the footage just released yesterday shows officers chasing unarmed 25-year-old jayland walker last week. police say video appears to show walker fired a shot from his vehicle before taking off on foot. the release of the footage sparked marches and protests in the streets of akron. ian lee joins us now with more details on this incident. ian, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, matt.

the situation in akron is tense after the shooting, and the body camera video is going to be key in the investigation moving forward and helping to explain what exactly happened that night. again, we got to warn you, the video is disturbing. akron, ohio, police released unsettling video showing the final moments of 25-year-old jayland walker's life. >> a lot of rounds were fired. m.e.'s report indicates over 60 wounds to mr. walker's body. >> reporter: officials say the deadly june 27th police shooting began with an attempted traffic stop just after midnight when walker apparently sped off when they tried to pull him over. during the chase, investigators say walker fired from the window of his car, a claim his family disputes. >> 21 shots fired. the vehicle has had a shot come out of its door. >> reporter: video shows walker exiting the car on foot wearing a ski mask. authorities say officers tried to use tasers but opened fire when he turned to face them. [ gunfire ]

>> if you can do anything for the family, please give peace, give dignity, and give justice a chance for jayland. >> no justice -- >> no peace! >> reporter: walker's family and city leaders are urging protesters to remain peaceful. >> if any of you out there don't like what's happening and love jayland, then we're going to do it right, right? >> reporter: overnight police fired teargas as protesters marched through the streets. social media video shows a dumpster on fire. during the foot chase, walker never fired a shot, but officers say they found a gun and loaded magazine in his car. according to akron police chief steve mylett, an officer was heard on body camera video saying walker still had a pulse. medics tried to save him, but walker died at the scene. matt, the eight officers directly involved in walker's shooting have been placed on administrative leave.

none of them has commented. the city of akron has canceled its fourth of july celebrations. matt? >> hard to watch. ian lee in london. thank you. overseas in denmark now where a suspect is under arrest for allegedly shooting three people and wounding four others inside a busy shopping mall. cell phone video shows shoppers fleeing yesterday in the capital of copenhagen. others hid inside stores when the shots rang out. police arrested the 22-year-old suspect nearby. authorities say the gunman likely acted alone and selected his victims at random. investigators do not believe the attack was terror related. a nearby concert featuring harry styles scheduled for later in the day was canceled after this shooting. now to the investigation into the january 6th riots. the house select committee says it's looking into new leads following last week's testimony by a former white house aide. serena marshall has more from washington.

>> reporter: the investigation into the insurrection turning their focus to that mob and those behind it. january 6th select committee member adam schiff told "face the nation" -- >> who was participating, who was financing it, how it was organized including the participation of these white nationalist groups like the proud boys, the three percenters, and others. we obviously want to probe any connection between these dangerous groups and the white house. >> reporter: no date has been announced, but the next hearing follows the shocking revelations laid out by former white house aide cassidy hutchinson. >> the president said something to the effect of, i'm the effing president, take me up to the capitol now. >> reporter: testimony that has led to new leads. >> she's been inspiring for a lot of people. every day we get new people that come forward and say, hey, i didn't think maybe this piece of a story that i knew was important, but now that you guys are -- i do see this plays in here. >> reporter: one piece of the story that remains in discussions, the president's former white house counsel, pat cipollone, who was subpoenaed by the committee last week.

>> pat was concerned it would look like they were obstructing justice or obstructing the electoral college count. >> reporter: and while the committee continues to lay out its case to the american people, its investigation could lead to criminal charges. >> the justice department doesn't have to wait for the committee to make it criminal. there could be more than one criminal referral. >> reporter: that's scrutiny intensifies the former president talked about throwing his name in the 2024 presidential race. aides say he's heading for a political comeback as soon as this summer. >> that was serena marshall reporting. the supreme court's top security officer is asking maryland and virginia to enforce laws prohibiting protests outside of jcees. the protests started after a draft opinion was leaked in may indicating the high court intended to overturn roe v. wade. the court formally issued the opinion last month. the head officer said protests and threatening activity have increased. there's been a major setback for ukraine.

it is acknowledging that russia has taken the last city under its control in the eastern luhansk region. it comes as moscow once again has targeted civilian areas, killing nearly two dozen. holly williams reports. >> reporter: just outside odesa, ukrainian military investigators sifted for evidence. they called saturday's attack on this residential neighborhood a possible russian war crime. it shattered this apartment building, and ukrainian officials say it killed 21 civilians including a child. ukraine says russia hit the neighborhood with three soviet-era anti-ship missiles fired from the black sea. this coastline is supposed to be a summer resort, now it's also a war zone. it's difficult to believe that almost exactly a year ago we were on board an american warship, the "uss ross," as it patrolled the black sea on a friendly training exercise with ukrainians and other allies.

more than a million people took to the streets of london to mark the 50th anniversary of britain's first pride march. the parade retraced a portion of the original route from back in 1972. this weekend was the first time the parade was held since the pandemic started two years ago. a fiery crash at an air show is under investigation, and there's been a resignation in the wake of the uvalde shooting. those are some of the headlines on the "morning newsstand." the "uvalde leader news" reports school district police chief pete arredondo has resigned from his seat on the city council. arredondo has come under heavy criticism for law enforcement's slow response to may's mass shooting at robb elementary he was elected to the council weeks before the shooting. he is on administrative leave from his job as school police chief. "the daily mail" says a fugitive yoga teacher accused of killing a professional cyclist

in texas is back in the u.s. after being arrested in costa rica. 34-year-old kaitlin armstrong was taken into custody at a hostel in costa rica last week. the cyclist, who was romantically linked to armstrong's boyfriend, was found dead in austin in may. and our lansing, michigan, affiliate wlns says the driver of a jet powered truck was killed during an air show. video shows the truck traveling more than 300 miles per hour down a runway in battle creek saturday. it was racing two planes in the air, and you see it there -- caught fire and exploded. the driver, 40-year-old chris darnell, was killed. the incident is under investigation. still to come, the minions are back. gru and his crew have a monster opening weekend as families return to the theaters. the thea.

visits to abortion clinics after the overturning of roe v. wade. the decision from the nation's highest court overturned nearly 50 years of legal precedent by reversing its original opinion that women have a constitutional right to an abortion. a senior vice president at google says the update will take effect in the coming weeks. you might find a sale there, but kohl's itself is no longer for sale. the company was considering selling to a franchise group, a holding company that owns the vitamin shoppe and other brands. the deal was potentially worth about $8 billion. kohl's has more than 1,100 u.s. stores and around $19 billion in annual sales. and if you're heading out to buy some items for that july 4th barbecue, your eyes are not fooling you, you are paying more. the price of a hot dog has jumped some 17% since last year. ketchup, up 21%. and hamburger and hot dog buns up about 13%. that's all according to the market research firm iri.

you're looking at an incredible rescue in the south china sea. planes and helicopters from hong kong raced to save the 30 crew members of an engineering ship that sunk during a storm. three people were saved on saturday, and just this morning a fourth crew member was rescued after days in the water. search efforts for the other 26 e ances of finding them in the italian alps killg lesikers a wound nine others on a popular trail. videos show it rolling down the mountainside in northeast italy yesterday. rescue crews were searching for 15 missing people. the area has been experiencing record high temperatures, and scientists say the glacier has been rapid leap melting in recent years. british pop star adele is drawing rave reviews for stopping a concert and coming to the aid of fans.
