immediate release of the federal warrant the fbi used to search his estate on monday. that followed an earlier request by the justice department asking the judge to unseal it. "the washington post" reported that agents searching trump's florida residence were looking for classified documents related to nuclear weapons among other items. it's unclear if any of those documents were found. dan lieberman is in new york with the details on all of this. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. after the justice department moved to unseal the warrant used by federal agents to search former president trump's home, the trump legal team now has until 3:00 p.m. eastern time today to decide whether it wants to oppose the motion. former president trump via the truth social media platform said he encourages the release of the documents he described as, quote, related to the un-american, unwarranted, and unnecessary break-in of his home in palm beach. thursday the justice department

asked a judge to unseal two documents related to the fbi search of trump's florida estate. >> the department filed the motion to make public the warrant and receipt in light of the former president's public confirmation of the search, the surrounding circumstances, and the substantial public interest in this matter. >> reporter: attorney general merrick garland said he to seek a search warrant, adding that the justice department doesn't take such matters lightly. agents were looking for classified documents that may have illegally been taken from the white house. investigators first subpoenaed those records this spring. 15 boxes of presidential records were removed by federal authorities earlier this year and returned to the national archives. >> clearly merrick garland has thrown the gauntlet down and said we'll show you our cards, now your turn. >> reporter: former trump advisers have been questioned about how the former president dealt with sensitive materials and classified national security documents during and after his presidency.

cbs news has learned trump's legal team is also discussing whether to publicly release video and still images of the search. two sources familiar with the former president's legal strategy tell cbs that before executing the warrant, the fbi requested private security cameras at mar-a-lago to be shut off. the sources say trump's team refused to comply. anne-marie? >> dan lieberman in new york. thank you very much. well, there are new details about an armed man who allegedly tried to breach an fbi office in cincinnati. authorities say 42-year-old ricky shiffer drove up to the building yesterday wearing body armor and armed with a nail gun and an ar-15-rifle. he tried to break in through a screening center but fled when agents confronted him. he led police on a high-speed chase which ended in an hours' long standoff and gun battle. the suspect was shot and killed. >> when the pursuit ended and he stopped, when he got out that's

when shots were exchanged between officers and the suspect. >> no officers were hurt. authorities did not release a possible motive for the breach. and breaking overnight, the family of actress anne heche says that she is not expected to survive after a fiery car accident. they released a statement last night saying in part, "unfortunately, due to her accident, anne heche suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma in critical condition. it has long been her choice to donate organs and she's being kept on life support to determine if any are viable." police say the 53-year-old crashed her car into a house in los angeles last friday. a fire erupted with the car inside the house. authorities are investigating whether she was under the influence when she was driving. well, the house is expected to vote today on the inflation reduction act. the $740 billion measure addresses climate change, health care, corporate taxes, and other issues.

it passed the senate on sunday along party lines, and vice president kamala harris cast the tie-breaking vote. democrats say the bill will use inflation and reduce the federal deficit. republicans have framed it as a package of tax hikes and unnecessary spending that could hurt the economy. the cdc is rolling back covid guidelines regardless of vaccination status. health officials announced new recommendations yesterday saying that the virus is here to stay. chief medical correspondent dr. jon lapook explained just one of the biggest changes last night on >> reporter: if you are exposed to somebody with covid, you no longer have to quarantine whether you are vaccinated or not. however, you do need to wear a mask for ten days around others and get tested at day five after exposure or sooner if you have symptoms. >> among other changes if you test positive for covid, you still need to isolate for five days. if you test negative on days six and eight and have either no symptoms or your symptoms are

albuquerque. court documents show he told authorities he was not involved in the killings. investigators say he is also the primary suspect in the murder of two other muslim men over the past nine months. officials say they found evidence that shows he knew the victims. a roller coaster accident at a german amusement park injured 30, and police say they think a little girl who went missing in 2019 was murdered. those are some of the headlines on the "morning newsstand." the "associated press" reports investigators in new hampshire say that they now believe a 5-year-old girl who disappeared in 2019 was murdered. authorities say that they think harmony montgomery was killed in december of that year. she was only reported missing by her mother last november. police say the girl's mother had been trying to find her daughter for months. authorities say new evidence led to their conclusion. >> harmony's a sweet and innocent child who deserved to

be brought home to her family and friends. >> no one has been charged in connection with the girl's disappearance. her father, who had custody of her when she disappeared, has pleaded not guilty to an assault charge. he's accused of striking his daughter in the face in july of 2019. "the washington post" says a roller coaster accident at legoland germany injured more than 30 people. it happened yesterday on the fire dragon ride at the theme park about an hour outside of munich. legoland germany says one roller coaster car stopped when another car crashed into it. it's not clear why the second car failed to stop. 38 passengers were on the two cars. the ride was shut down, and the park was closed. legoland says the park will reopen today, though. and "usa today" says that the nba is retiring bill russell's number 6 jersey throughout the entire league. the 11-time champion, civil rights activist died at the age of 88.
