for more news, it's monday, august 15th, 2022. this is the "cbs morning news." high alert. law enforcement is warned about growing threats of violence in the wake of the fbi search at mar-a-lago. breaking overnight, six flags shooting. several people are hurt after gunfire sends visitors running for cover at an amusement park. road to recovery. salman rushdie is now off a ventilator. the latest on the author's condition following a stabbing attack on friday. good mornings and good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. we begin with calls for transparency after federal agents searched former president trump's home in florida. members of the senate intelligence committee want to

see the documents seized from mar-a-lago last week, and they're asking the white house to provide more details on what led to the search. all this comes as the fbi and homeland security issued a memo to law enforcement across the country warning of growing threats against them. bradley blackburn is in new york with more on all of this. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. those threats are being fueled on line. federal officials say personal information like home addresses and even family members' names are being shared as targets. the rhetoric is getting intense and has some republicans calling for calm. >> it's outrageous rhetoric. >> reporter: the fbi and department of homeland security are on high alert following the search of former president trump's mar-a-lago estate last week. >> everybody needs to respect our law enforcement, whether they be local, state, or federal. >> reporter: a joint intelligence bulletin sent to law enforcement across the country warned of a threat to places so-called dirty bomb in front of fbi headquarters and general calls for civil war and armed rebellion. other threats are also circulating on line.

former fbi agent-turned-pennsylvania congressman brian fitzpatrick discussed the development on "face the nation." >> i myself have been notified by the bureau that my life was put in danger recently by some of these same people. >> reporter: the warrant detailed agents retrieved close to two dozen boxes of material containing 11 sets of classified documents, some marked top secret. >> anyone in the intelligence community that had documents like that, they would be under serious investigation. >> reporter: on social media, mr. trump alleged agent knowingly confiscated privileged attorney/client material writing, "i request that these documents be immediately returned." >> this is a law enforcement matter, and the department of justice is going to move forward as they see fit. >> reporter: over the weekend a bipartisan call for more transparency. senate intelligence committee chairs democrat mark warner and republican marco rubio requested the release of the classified documents in question to committee members along with an assessment of how their mishandling might impact

national security. and republicans are also calling on the doj to release the affidavit that led to the search warrant. now no charges have been filed against former president trump, but that warrant spells out possible charges like impeding an investigation, removing classified national security records, and violating parts of the espionage act. >> very interesting. bradley blackburn, thank you. breaking overnight, three people were injured in a shooting at an amusement park. visitors took cover last night after shots rang out in the parking lot at six flags great america in gurnee, illinois. that's about 45 miles north of chicago. a park spokesperson said all three were hit by shots fired from a vehicle which then fled the scene. two people were taken to the hospital. the third refused treatment. it's unclear what led to the gunfire. also breaking overnight, the family of anne heche says the actress has died after being taken off life support.

she suffered a severe brain injury when the car she was driving crashed into a home in los angeles ten days ago. she was kept on life support after being declared brain dead in case her organs could be donated. anne heche was 53 years old. in ukraine now, there is fear of a nuclear disaster after reports of shelling near a nuclear power plant. president volodymyr zelenskyy is warning russian forces targeting the facility. charlie d'agata explains. >> reporter: ukrainian forces bear down on russian targets. military officials tell cbs news troops are preparing for an all-out assault to recapture kherson, the only regional capital the russians have conquered since the invasion began six month ago. on a front line position we can't reveal, we spoke with combat medic serhiy zaitsev. can you describe what the situation has been like here for the past few days. "over the last week, the russians have intensified the

shelling," he said, but added, "because of the supply of high-precision weapons from western allies, the russians have not advanced at all." commanders credit american supplied himar weapons for destroying ammunition depots and supply lines deep into russian-held territory. they haven't stopped the russian military from raining rockets down on towns and cities within easy reach. the indiscriminate shelling of neighborhoods is a tragic reality for frontline towns like this one. what makes this strike different is where the attack came from. just across the river, not more than a few miles away, lies a zaporizhzia power plant. residents on the opposite bank tell us they've come under intense nightly bombardment launched from the russian-held facility, accusing putin's troops of using it as a shield. the deputy mayor, natalia horbolit -- what time does the shelling

begin? "we heard shelling both at 1:30 and 4:00 in the morning." president volodymyr zelenskyy warned every russian soldier who shoots at the plant or uses the plant for cover will become a special target. but nobody is backing down. the battle rages on putting not only the plant but the entire region in peril. charlie d'agata, cbs news, nikopol, ukraine. police are trying to figure out why a man fired shots into the air and then took his own life outside the u.s. capitol. authorities say 29-year-old richard york iii of delaware rammed his vehicle into a barricade near the capitol yesterday morning. as he got out of the car -- rather, as he got out, the car caught on fire, and he began shooting into the air. he then turned the gun on himself. investigators say he had a criminal history dating back more than a decade, but they do not believe he was targeting any

members of congress. a pennsylvania man is in custody this morning accused of driving into a crowd of people, killing one and injuring 17 others. he then allegedly killed his mother. 24-year-old adrian oswaldo sura reyes is facing two counts of criminal homicide. pennsylvania state police say that he got into an argument with his mom on saturday. he allegedly became upset and drove into a crowd of about 75 people who had gathered to raise money for victims of a recent fire. >> this is a complete tragedy in a community where there's already been tragedy. we are going to do our job to the best of our abilities to conduct a thorough investigation not only for the families but the community members. they're already hurting. >> after the crash, police say the man returned home and then killed his mother. he was denied bail. police say he is not a suspect in the fire which remains under investigation. the agent for salman rushdie says that the author is on the road to recovery.

he was removed from a ventilator and is able to talk again after a vicious attack. the 75-year-old was stabbed ten times on stage at a lecture friday in western new york state. his agent said that he suffered a damaged liver and will likely lose an eye. rushdie has faced death threats for his 1988 book "the satanic verses," which fictionalizes parts of the life of the prophet muhammad. the 24-year-old suspect, hadi matar, pleaded not guilty over the weekend. he's charged with second-degree attempted murder and assault with a weapon. and coming up, r. kelly heads back to court. the new charges that the singer faces after being sentenced to 30 years in prison. and panic at the airport. what scared travelers in las vegas and how it affected hundreds of flights. this is the "cbs morning news." news." you never know what opportunities life will send your way. but if you have moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis or psoriatic arthritis, enbrel can help you say i'm in for what's next.

lawmakers arrived in taiwan for a two-day visit. it comes less than two weeks after house speaker nancy pelosi's visit to the self-ruling island angered china. the five-person delegation led by massachusetts' democratic senator ed markey arrived yesterday. china, which claims taiwan as its territory, has been conducting military drills around the island since pelosi's visit. a water main break forces thousands of people to boil their water, and r. kelly heads back to trial. those are some of the headlines on the "morning newsstand." "the new york times" reports singer r. kelly's federal trial in chicago starts today. kelly faces charges of coercing five minors into sex acts and conspiring to obstruct justice during a 2008 trial. he's accused of paying off potential witnesses and threatening an alleged underage victim not to testify at that trial. she did not testify, and kelly was acquitted. prosecutors say that the woman, now in her 30s, will testify at this trial. earlier this year in new york, kelly was sentenced to 30 years

in prison for racketeering and sex trafficking. the "detroit free press" says a boil water advisory is still in effect for more than 130,000 people in southeastern michigan. officials initially posted the advisory for more than 900,000 people after a 120-inch water main broke saturday. the governor declared a state of emergency in several counties. the advisory was lifted for most people hours later after water flow was restored. authorities say that it could take up to two weeks before the water main is fully repaired. >> i mean, that's a ten-foot pipe, so securing some backup piping and getting it in place and repairing it is definitely going to be a big task for sure. >> the city of flint, which is still recovering from a 2014 water crisis, was one of the communities initially impacted but removed from the boil water advisory on saturday. and the "las vegas review journal" says a false shooter

company around. and elon musk celebrates a milestone with tesla. elise preston has those stories and more in today's cbs "money watch." >> reporter: wall street ended last week on a high note. the dow jumped 424, the nasdaq gained 267, the s&p 500 grew 72. major retailers like walmart, home depot, and target are all set to release sales reports this week. the snapshots will give investors a look at how they fared in july. the commerce department will also release its numbers on wednesday. experts say shoppers started back-to-school shopping earlier this year which could have helped boost sales. bicycle giant peloton is no longer cruising on pandemic sales. the company announced plans to cut nearly 800 jobs, close stores, and raise prices. the company says the sweeping changes will help turn a profit. the company's popularity grew tremendously during the height of the pandemic, but sales fell sharply when businesses started to reopen. peloton is already focusing more on subscription services and

less on equipment sales. tesla hits a milestone. elon musk tweeted the car manufacturer has made more than three million cars. a third of the inventory completed at the factory in shanghai, china, which just opened in 2019. despite the production boost, tesla stocks remained significantly down for the year. that's your cbs "money watch" report for this monday morning. i'm elise preston, cbs news, new york. a meteor captured the attention of people in the western u.s. surveillance cameras show a light streaking across the sky saturday morning. people in northern utah, southern idaho, and parts of wyoming reported hearing a loud boom. the national weather service in salt lake city confirmed the noise was a meteor exploding as it entered earth's atmosphere. >> i heard a great big boom to the north of us. i'm in lehigh. >> big ones like this occur at most maybe once or twice a year around the entire earth.
