we begin with the justice department's attempt to release an affidavit for the search of president trump's home in mar-a-lago. it comes after several media outlets including cbs news requested access to all documents related to the search warrant. our bradley blackburn is in new york with the details. bradley, good morning. >> hey, matt, good morning. trump allies have been pushing for a release of the affidavit demanding for more answers why mar-a-lago was searched, but in a court filing, the justice department said sharing those details could compromise an investigation still underway. the justice department is opposed to releasing the affidavit that led to last week's search of trump's mar-a-lago residence. in a court filing they said the disclosure could cause significant and damaging information.

a law enforcement source confirms to cbs news that passports belonging to former president were taken by investigators but later returned. the fbi says it also recovered 11 sets of classified material from mar-a-lago, some of which may be so sensitive it can only be read in a secure location with tight controls. >> whenever i and fellow members of the intelligence committee have reviewed these types of documents, there are literally people standing over our shoulders. >> reporter: republicans are now pursuing any communications between the fbi, doj, and national archives related to president trump's records. >> we have a list but we don't know whether it's classified material and whether or not it rises to the level. >> reporter: meanwhile fbi headquarters in washington and field offices around the country remain on high alert following online threats of violence against law enforcement. an intelligence memo said some threats are, quote, significant

in identifying tactics, targets, and weaponry. and former president trump gave his first interview telling fox news digital he's offering to help the doj, saying, because the temperature in this country has to be brought down. he added, if it isn't, terrible things are going to happen. matt. >> bradley blackburn here in new york. thank you. some new developments in the investigation of possible election interference in georgia. prosecutors told lawyers for rudy giuliani he's a target of their criminal probe. the personal lawyer for former president trump is scheduled to testify before a special grand jury tomorrow. the investigation is looking into whether trump and his allies looked to overturn the state's 2020 election presidential results. tonight one of the most closely watched elections takes place in wyoming with harriet hageman by about 30 points. cheney is about one of the most

outspoken critics against president trump. if she loses, she would be the eighth house republican who could be leaving congress. there but there is also speculation she could run in the 2024 presidential election. two police officers in george floyd's kill having rejected a state plea deal. kueng and thao turned down a deal. under that they would have served three years to serve concurrently with their federal sentences of at least three years each. one legal expert not affiliated with the case believes the case will head to trial in october. it's going to be difficult for the state to prove that these two individuals intentionally aided mr. chauvin in an unintentional act. that's a hard hill to climb, so they probably thought that they have a good defense.

>> both men were working with former officer derek chauvin when he pinned his knee on george floyd's neck for nine minutes in 2020. he was convicted last year and is serving more than 20 years on the state charge. british drug regulators are the first in the world to authorize a covid vaccine targeting two different variants. the updated moderna booster helps to protect against the original covid strain and the omicron variant. officials say it meets regulator standards of safety, quality, and effectiveness. britain's health saert calls it good news for the uk population. >> uk's the first place in the world to license this new medicine, and it means that people will get access to a broader immunity than would otherwise have been the case. >> and british regulators say the side effects were similar to the original moderna booster. rna aner are working on a new vaccine to

target the new virus and the ba.5 strain. secretary lloyd austin is experiencing covid for a second time. the 69-year-old lloyd austin says he's experiencing mild symptoms and will quarantine at home for five days in accordance with the cdc guidelines. he also contracted covid in january. he said he's fully vaccinated and double boosted, and his last in-person contact with president biden was july 29th. across the country many students are returning to the classroom, but school districts are struggling to hire enough teachers. manuel bojorquez takes a look at the problem and some potential solutions. >> reporter: it was the first day of school in los angeles county, the nation's second largest district. but the national teacher shortage is affecting smaller systems, too, like is conspiracy ta'u charter school system in phoenix, arizona. >> i think we're unprepared for the shortage. >> could it get worse? >> i think we're probably at the

peak of the problem. >> reporter: armando ruiz says one temporary solution, recruiting teachers from abroad. a third of the teachers here are from other countries. in florida, school districts are also hiring foreign teachers. manilyn narca from the philippines is teaching chemistry at osceola public schools through a cultural exchange program. >> i'm really very grateful for the opportunity given to me and the rest of the teachers who are here in the u.s. >> reporter: still, it's not meant to be a solution to the teacher shortage or as some see it the need to improve teacher salaries and working conditions to attract more candidates. one survey found 72% of the school districts nationwide did not have enough applicants to fill all their open teaching positions. nationally there are more than 280,000 fewer public school teachers than before the pandemic. >> we have over 150 vacancies even today. >> deborah pace is superintendent of osceola public schools. >> we're working to cover every class.

baldwin was holding a prop gun during rehearsal in october when it fired, killing cinematographer halyna hutchins and wounding the director. baldwin insists he did not pull the trigger, but an analysis said the bullet could not be released without the trigger being pulled. an rv crashes into a doughnut shop and a delhi gas explosion levels a house. the "associated press" reports one person was killed and nine injured at a gas explosion in a missouri home. it happened yesterday morning in the small town of wyatt. a man in his mid-20s died. nine others including a 6-month-old suffered serious burns. the blast destroyed the house. the garage of a neighboring home also caught fire. >> and i sat down here to drink my coffee on the couch and we heard an explosion at 7:00 and we thought it was a sonic boom.

>> investigators are trying to determine if a water heater or stove caused that explosion. a "denver post" says an ar crashed into a doughnut shop. a man inside the store was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. he was sitting at a table hit by the rv and thrown across the room. a dog inside that rv was not hurt and was rescued. police say the driver was making a turn and likely lost control of the rv. and "the cincinnati enquirer" says the cincinnati zoo chose the name fritz for its new baby hippo. the calf was born earlier this month. the hippo's care team chose fritsz after the name defeated ferguson in a public vote. the name fritz fits the little guy's spunky personality. he's the brother of a famous hippo called fiona. she became a worldwide celebrity
