freight railroads and three holdout unions representing 60,000 workers have until just after midnight to reach a deal. a walkout could cost the u.s. economy as much as $2 billion a day, make supply chain issues worse, and increase inflation. and possibly freeze almost 30% of u.s. cargo shipments. the biden administration officials are involved in last-minute negotiations to try and reach an agreement. the issues include scheduling and attendance policies for workers, that workers, rather, say make it difficult to take time off. ahead of a possible strike, amtrak has canceled all of its long distance passenger trips. >> if you're planning something that you've been planning for months on end and suddenly it's -- it's taken away from you, that's more than frustrating. it's maddening. >> nine unions have agreed to a tentative deal, but all 12 must say yes to prevent a strike. breaking overnight, florida's republican governor, ron desantis, sent two planes of

migrants or immigrants, rather, to massachusetts. they arrived in the community of martha's vineyard yesterday. a spokesperson said it was part of an effort to transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary destinations. texas republican governor greg abbott has been bussing thousands of migrants to washington, d.c., new york, and chicago. critics say migrants are being used as pawns for political gain. and in london this morning, thousands of people are slowly making their way through a miles' long line to say good-bye to queen elizabeth ii. up to one million mourners are expected to view the queen's coffin during the four days she lies in state at westminster hall before her funeral on monday. there is a constant stream of people 24 hours a day. tina kraus is in london with more. good morning. >> reporter: anne-marie, good morning. it is quite a scene here in london. the british are doing what they do best -- they're queueing or

lining up as we would call it, waiting patiently for just seconds with the queen. we've seen people wiping tears as they pass the coffin. we've seen other people saying prayers, some even giving a curtsy. many simply overwhelmed by the enormity of this moment. the line of mourners awaiting a final chance to pay their respects before queen elizabeth's funeral monday stretches between two to three miles. some have been waiting for days, others for hours to see the queen's coffin as she lies in state at westminster hall. >> for 70 years the latest we -- the least we can do is come up for a few hours to pay our respects. >> we queued for six, seven hours, then it was over quickly. inside it was amazing. >> reporter: yesterday a procession on a horse-drawn gun carriage brought the coffin from buckingham palace through london streets as cannons sounded and crowds took it all in. >> just seeing the coffin pass, it's special.

it meant a lot to me. >> reporter: as the procession made its way across the city, king charles iii, his siblings and sons, marched behind. once inside, the solemn mood took an unexpected turn. when a guard fainted in front of the queen's coffin. close to a million people are expected to see the queen lying in state before her funeral is held monday at westminster abbey. >> the queen, she was very hard working, and she had dignity and was dignified. and personally she -- she's a role model. >> reporter: the late monarch's coffin is topped with the imperial state crown, encrusted with some 2,800 diamonds. the queen wore it for her coronation in 1953. also adorning the coffin is pine from the queen's balmoral estate in scotland where elizabeth died at the age of 96. king charles iii won't be seen in public today. for the first time since his

mother died he'll spend a quiet day in reflection. like any family when there's a major loss, people left behind try to come together in grief. well, the new king is doing that for an entire nation. anne-marie? >> certainly. tina kraus in london. thank you. well, a federal jury in chicago convicted r. kelly of luring underage girls to have sex and producing child pornography. the r&b star and former business manager were found not guilty of obstruction of justice for allegedly trying to rig a 2008 child porn trial that ended with kelly's acquittal. >> overall robert kelly is facing a prison sentence of 10 to 90 years imprisonment based upon the jury's finding. for that we're very thankful. >> earlier this year in new york, kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison for racketeering and sex trafficking. he also faces two more sexual misconduct trials, one in minnesota and the other on state charges in illinois.

ukrainian president volodymyr zelenskyy was not seriously hurt after getting into a car crash in kyiv. a spokesperson said the president's motorcade collided with another vehicle. that driver received first aid and was taken away by ambulance. it's not clear what injury he might have suffered but still posted his nightly address. the crash happened after he visited troops in a newly liberated region. debora patta was there to meet him. >> reporter: a show of strength from president zelenskyy as he visited recaptured towns in the northeast and delivered a strong message to vladimir putin -- ukraine intends to keep russian troops on the run. how does it feel to be coming to izyum for the first time since it's been liberated? >> you see that russians destroyed -- the main thing that we are coming back, and we are on the way to the end. >> reporter: russians held this town for over six months, and just a few days ago this would

have been unthinkable. ♪ even now the visit was bold. little more than six miles from the nearest front line, occasional shelling can be heard in the distance. ukrainian soldier nazar was part of the lightning counteroffensive, running up to 20 miles a day, freeing villages en route to izyum. did you expect to happen so quickly? >> no. outhatll be mae for one month. >> reporter: for the residents who have endured more than six months of hell, it could not come soon enough. liza jankina hid in his icy basement with 50 neighbors for four months. when one of them died, they had to be hastily buried in these bushes. the devastation is everywhere. russian artillery lay waste to homes, hospitals, schools, and bridges. and amid the ruins, these children try to forget using

week, down 22% from the previous week. it did, however, warn that relaxed covid testing in many countries means that many cases are not being detected. a billionaire is giving away his company to fight climate change, and there was a surprise development in the parkland shooting trial. those are some of the headlines on the "morning newsstand." the "sun sentinel" reports defense attorneys for parkland, florida, school shooter nikolas cruz rested their case without warning raising an unroar in -- an uproar in court. the attorneys told the judge and prosecutors that they would be calling 80 witnesses during the penalty phase of the case. after 11 days of defense testimony they only called 25. the sudden announcement that they were resting led to a heated exchange with the judge. >> even if you didn't make your decision until this morning, to have 22 people plus all of this and every attorney march into court, be waiting as if it's some kind of game, now i have to send them home, the state's not ready, they're not going to have another witness ready. another day wasted.

i have never experienced a level of unprofessionalism in my career. it's unbelievable. >> cruz pleaded guilty to killing 17 people at marjorie stoneman douglas high school in 2018. jurors will decide if cruz is sentenced to death or life without parole. and "the new york times" says that the founder of outdoor apparel maker patagonia gave the company away. 83-year-old yvon chouinard and his family transferred their ownership valued at about $3 billion to two new entities that will help fight charge. -- fight climate change. they will also work to protect undeveloped land around the world. patagonia will continue to operate as a private company, but its $100 million in annual profits will go to environmental causes. still to come, classic fun. we're going to show you some of this year's finalists for the toy hall of fame and how you can vote for your favorite. it takes energy to take on the world.■

here's a look at the forecast in some cities around the country. ♪ president biden hit the road for a major announcement on greener cars. he made a pit stop at the north american international auto show in detroit yesterday. he announced the approval of $900 million to build more electric vehicle chargers in 35 states. it's part of his plan to cut planet-warming emissions in half by 2030. but at the same time, republicans are criticizing the administration's energy policies. >> now we're choosing to build a better america. [ applause ] an america that's confronting the climate crisis, and america's workers leading the way. >> you're not plugging your car into a tree. you need some stable energy sources and a lot of that is fossil fuels but they're against

fossil fuels. >> funding for the chargers would come from the bipartisan infrastructure law. and while the biden administration is pushing for more electric vehicles, the new ford mustang is all gasoline. matt pieper has that story and more in today's cbs "money watch" report. >> reporter: stocks closed modestly higher on wall street wednesday after a day of swerving between gains and losses. the dow gained 30 points. nasdaq up 86. s&p 500 gaining 13. while some muscle cars are going ev, not ford. unveiled last night in detroit, the redesigned 2024 mustang hard top and convertible with two gas-powered engines. there is a mach e crossover that went on sale in 2020, but the original mustang could be the gas-powered last muscle car from detroit a -- automakers. california is suing amazon citing antitrust violations. the lawsuit says amazon had

maryland prosecutors are asking a judge to vacate the 2000 murder conviction of a man who was the focus of the popular podcast "serial." adnan syed has maintained his innocence for decades after being found guilty of killing his ex-girlfriend, hae min lee, in 1999. in a court filing yesterday, prosecutors said new evidence suggests the two other possible suspects may have been involved in the death. the podcast raised doubts about some of the evidence in the case. nba commissioner adam silver is defending the punishment handed down to the owner of the phoenix nba and wnba teams after an investigation into misconduct. silver said that the one-year suspension and $10 million fine were fair punishment for robert sarverinveatoridsaer mistreated employees and used racial and misogynistic words. >> i was in disbelief to a
