with you. i'm anne-marie green. white house officials are meeting today over immigration policy, and they're expected to discuss a controversial tactic by some republican governors who are sending migrants to democratic-run cities. the latest example happened yesterday morning when two buses from texas dropped off about 100 migrants outside of the washington, d.c., home of vice president kamala harris. several democrats including california governor gavin newsom are calling on federal authorities to investigate whether transporting migrants across state lines in these types of cases breaks the law. elaine quijano with the latest. >> reporter: the 48 asylum seekers mainly from venezuela landed in martha's vineyard wednesday afternoon aboard two planes from texas and organized by florida's republican governor, ron desantis. luis said he left venezuela to look for a better life for his three children who are still there. he didn't know he would end up here. "they told me there was a work

opportunity," he says. "we were going to a city, but we ended up staying here." democratic massachusetts state representative dylan fernandez called the move by desantis disgusting. >> ron desantis is a coward. only a coward uses women and children for their own political gain. >> reporter: governor desantis defended the flights paid through a $12 million taxpayer-funded initiative. >> we take what's happening at the southern border very seriously, unlike some and unlike the president of the united states. >> reporter: the move follows similar steps taken by texas governor greg abbott. about 100 migrants from texas were dropped off near the vice president's naval observatory residence. so far abbott has bussed over 10,000 migrants to new york, chicago, and washington, d.c. mayors in those cities called the actions political and shameful. in south florida, a group of venezuelan americans criticized desantis.

>> we demand him to stop using our pain, our suffering, and our desperation for his political gains. >> reporter: republicans on capitol hill defended the florida governor's actions. as for the migrants who are here legally seeking asylum, officials here looking into temporarily housing them at a military base in cape cod. elaine quijano, cbs news, edgartown, massachusetts. a federal judge has named a special master to review classified documents seized by the fbi at mar-a-lago last month. raymond dearie is a one-time chief judge of the federal appeals court. he was nominated by president reagan in 1986 and served on the foreign surveillance court that oversees sensitive national security cases. dearie will sort through thousands of documents seized at former president trump's home in florida to see if they should be protected by attorney-client privilege or executive privilege.

trump proposed him for the role, and the justice department did not oppose him. meanwhile, in an interview with conservative radio host hugh hewitt, trump issued a warning about what might happen if he indicted over his handling of classified documents after leaving the white house. >> i think you'd have problems in this country the likes of which perhaps we've never seen before. i don't think the people of the united states would stand for it. >> inviting the mob to return to the streets is exactly what happened here january 6th, 2021. >> trump also said he had the right to declassify documents found at mar-a-lago. leaders from around the world begin arriving in england today ahead of monday's state fume for queen elizabeth. an unprecedented security operation is under way involving law enforcement from throughout the uk, counterterrorism experts, the military, and private security personnel. as thousands of people continue to make their way through a

miles' long line to see the queen's coffin, armed officers are staked out on rooftops. it ian lee is in london with more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. yeah, we've seen that security presence throughout the city this morning. as for that line, it is now five miles long, and roughly the wait time is about 12 hours. as for the new king, well, he has another busy day. ♪ bagpipers and british troops paraded through london overnight, rehearsing for queen elizabeth's state funeral on monday. the outpouring of love and respect for the late monarch measured in miles as tens of thousands from around the world wait for hours to see the queen's coffin. >> she's just such a great woman. >> a special person. and we've known her for 70 years. >> reporter: this woman from canada had plenty of time to think about the queen's life while waiting in line for more than five hours. >> she was my age when she became queen.

and i can only imagine how much she had to learn and sacrifice for that. >> reporter: the queen's son, king charles iii, travels to wales today for his first visit as monarch where he and the queen consort will attend a prayer and reflection service. it's charles' last stop on his visits to the four nations of the uk as king. the final farewell for britain's longest reigning monarch will be the nation's first state funeral since prime minister winston churchill died in 1965. all around london security is tightening as the queen's funeral draws closer. police teams and anti-terror squads are preparing for the biggest security challenge the country has ever seen. among the 2,000 people attending, the guest list includes president biden, french president emmanuel macron, and the prime ministers of canada, australia, and new zealand. a smaller, private burial service is planned for after the funeral at windsor castle. queen elizabeth had another personal request for her funeral. she wants her grandsons, princes william and harry, to walk side

by side behind her coffin as it moves from westminster hall to westminster abbey right behind me. she will be using the same gun carriage that was used for the funerals of her father, king george vi, as well as prime minister winston churchill. anne-marie? >> ian lee in london. thanks. president biden is set to hold his first in-person meetings at the white house today with the families of two americans jailed in russia. mr. biden will meet with the family of wnba star brittney griner. she was sentenced to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to drug-related charges. the president will hold a separate meeting with the family of marine veteran paul whelan, serving a sentence on espionage-related charges that he says are false. the biden administration has been trying to negotiate a prisoner swap with russia to free the two americans. the u.s. says that it's sending another $600 million in

[kid plays drums] life is for living. let's partner for all of it. i'm so glad we did this. edward jones breaking overnight, uber says that it was hit by a hacker. the ride-hailing service tweeted that it's in touch with law enforcement and responding to a, quote, cybersecurity incident. according to "the new york times," the hacker compromised an employee's workplace messaging slack app.

apparently the hacker was able to gain access to other internal uber systems. there's no indication that uber's vehicles or its operation were impacted, though. several bomb technicians were injured in a training exercise, and there are new details about last-minute moves to avoid a rail strike. those are some of the headlines on the "morning newsstand." "the washington post" reports on the biden administration's efforts to avert a crippling nationwide rail strike. president biden was joined by union leaders and railway owners yesterday as he announced the tentative agreement less than 24 hours before thousands of workers were set to walk off the job. the "post" says that mr. biden himself was directly involved in the talks. the secretary of labor said a strike would have cost the u.s. economy as much as $2 billion a day. >> we have food and grain and corn waiting to be transported across the country. that wouldn't have gotten there. that would have rotted. we have other supplies that go on trains. it would have been devastating. >> ahead of a possible strike,

amtrak had canceled all of its long distance passenger trips. more than 100,000 rail workers still need to vote on the tentative deal, though. cbs philadelphia says five bomb technicians were hurt during a pennsylvania bomb squad training exercise. authorities say that an explosive device unexpectedly detonated yesterday during the exerts at a state prison. one technician from the fbi, one from the state police, and three from the montgomery county sheriff's office suffered non-life-threatening injuries. cause of the accident, though, is under investigation. and the bbc says a fireball in the night sky over scotland and northern ireland was a meteor, according to experts. hundreds of people reported seeing the object wednesday. scientists used video taken by the opinion to determine whether it was a meteor or space junk. they say that the object that was seen burning through the atmosphere for about 20 seconds was definitely a meteor. it may have ended up in the ocean.

s&p 500 losing 44. want to work for the irs? here's your chance. it plans to hire 5,000 new customer service representatives. treasury secretary janet yellen tells our nancy cordes that the tax agency will be able to handle 85% of calls next year. that is a bump up from this year when about 10% of calls were answered by the irs. another breakup for kanye. this time it's with his partnership with gap. west's attorney says the retailer has not met certain contractural obligations including failing to sell certain clothes in gap stores last year. it was supposed to be a ten-year deal that began in 2020. gap said in part that their visions were not aligned. the rapper will focus on opening his own yeezy clothing stores. speaking of clothe, this was pricey. the jersey that basketball great michael jordan wore on game one of the 1998 nba finals sells for a record $10.1 million at auction. sotheby's thought it would only

get half that. the jersey from the famed last dance season attracted a total of 20 bids. that is your cbs "money watch" report for this friday morning. i'm matt pieper, cbs news, new york. the world's first flying bike has come to the u.s. a japanese startup company showed off the hover bike at the big auto show in detroit yesterday. it can fly up to 40 minutes and reach speeds of 62 miles per hour. it's already on sale in japan, and there are plans to sell a smaller version of the hover bike in the u.s. next year. the estimated price tag, though, $777,000. and a community in pennsylvania celebrated a longtime barber. paul strait has been cutting hair for 60 years in jenkintown, north of philadelphia. more than 100 people including the phillie phanatic attended an event this week to honor the 77-year-old. he's just grateful to be serving families. >> i love them, believe me.
