we continue tracking the california drought. the new drop map shows a slight

improvement in some areas but not enough to make any real difference in the bay area. until rainfalls and a whole bunch of it, all we can do is conserve. the latest figures from the governor's office show an overall 7% drop in water waste in august, but about ever major bay area water agency di better with the exception of sa francisco. one san francisco business specializes in quenching thirst. they are finding creative ways to conserve water. kpix 5 will show you how. >> reporter: cleaning is an important part of brewing beer and like the beer making process, it takes a lot of water. unlike the beer making process, the water used here does not need to be as high quality. >> this is reuse water we are using to recycle through the system over and over again. >> right here. >> reporter: this is the brewmaster , here. his brewery

takes anywhere from 5-7 gallons of fresh water to make the product. >> reporter: a year into the program, anchor brewing is now using less freshwater. >> we have reduce water usage. it's been solid, 10%. >> reporter: they could recycl up to 20 million gallons of water a year. that brings us here. >> this is the crystal springs reservoir and it's part of our drinking water supply. >> reporter: paula is the director of water resources. this is where there water savings are realized, in the reservoirs . >> we are entering the fourth year of the drought , so obviously, having everyone use water as efficiently as possible is as important as ever. projects such as the anchor brewery project helps us to store and stretch our drinking water supplies. >> reporter: there is only an upside to this way of saving. >> allows us to make more beer with less water. >> reporter: he hopes other breweries will learn to conside

morning. normal temperatures come to the bay area friday . everyone is within 5 degrees on either side of what is typical for late october. it will be cooler and breezy over the weekend. the wind tomorrow will be stronger with that onshore breeze pushing the cooler air into the inland valleys which is why temperatures are close t average. but, the wind is not strong as the cold front slips through early saturday but watc those gusts by early afternoon. 20-30 mile an hour in length, and we will see similarly breez conditions on sunday. any outdoor plans sensitive to the wind, you may want to adjust a little bit. it will be blustery temperatures now are 50s and 60s, from 50 in santa rosa to 6 degrees in livermore. the fog is spreading behind the buildings of downtown san francisco and it will make its way across the bay and into th inland valleys to a greater extent than this morning. it will back up out of the valleys and we will see improving

visibility toward late morning with plenty of sunshine during the afternoon. we have a gradua increase of cloud cover late in the day as the wave of cooler air gets closer to us and squeezes the atmosphere. temperatures tonight are dropping down to the low to mid 50s with upper 40s in the north bay valleys with high temperatures friday, a few degrees below average around the water, a few degrees above inland. everyone is close to normal for this time of year. zoom in for a closer look. around 60 which might be optimistic. you might be short of 60 degrees. low to mid 70s down the peninsula and in the south end of the bay. temperatures are reaching mid-to-upper 70s, 77 in san jose. low 80s are widespread in the east bay which is a lot better than upper 80s and low 90s that you had today. it's closer to october normals for this particular part of october mid-60s in the city and upper 60s around 70 for oakland in th east bay and mid-70s north of the golden gate. it should be mild friday afternoon. farther north, it is warmer here with highs in the low 80s.

temperatures will not change much for san francisco and oakland over the next several days. have a noticeable up-and-down pattern further inland . san jose is in the upper 70s to the upper 60s over the weekend with a baby warm-u monday and tuesday and then cooling down with that next wav of cool air that heads our way wednesday and thursday next wee but at this point, we have additional clouds adding into the forecast and by the middle of next week no significant rai chances. enjoy the cooler temperatures, even though it will be breezy. >> we will look out for it. thank you.

a new study says that california homes are leaking a cancer-causing gas. the gas wa piped into millions of homes in the state and contains harmful air pollutants , including benzene, which has been linked to cancer. gas samples were collected from 160 california homes and all of the samples contained benzene and other pollutants. environmentalists say that this is a good reason to go electric, not just for th climate but for health. now to a more unusual story a fighter jet had to intercept a plane last week when it flew into restricted airspace over orange county were president biden was giving a speech. >> u.s. air force, on guard. >> that's the radio warning fro f-16 air force pilot , local
