atherton. after days, investigators have uncovered that mercedes-benz found underground behind a mansion. the car was reported stolen in september of 1992. >> and police are trying to identify the owner but they do think he is did. and while cadaver dogs were alerted to possible human remains in the area of the car, none have been discovered so far. >> they are going through a landscaping project so it is quite possible it could be a worker who possibly got cut and dripped some blood on the ground. it could be someone vomited in the area recently or something has been buried there for some time. we just don't know what the dogs are reacting to until we discover it. >> atherton police didn't give any more updates only to say they expect more monday. oakland police issued an alert due to an increase in robberies targeting contractors saying thieves are going after their power tools. those tools

could cost up up to a few thousand dollars each. >> some of the contractors have been hit a number of times in recent months. one s■ays t as a scary experience and when he works inside of a house, he keeps the doors locked. another had his work truck stolen three times. it cost him thousands of dollars to replace the tools in the truck. >> we don't leave any tools on site anymore. we take our tools home at night. our trucks go home with us. i don't leave any trucks parked at my shop anymore. so we just do our best. and it still happens. >> oakland police recommend the contractors engrave their names and phone numbers on the tools and if it is a large and expensive tool, they should attach a gps tracker to it. san jose city council has approved a hiring bonus for police officers who come to work for the city from another police department. this comes as they face a continuing

shortage of cops. the bonus is at $10,000 and the city is allocating enough money for 15 officers. we are two-and-a-half weeks away from the midterms and we want to remind you this monday, october 24th is the last day to register to vote. >> early voting has already opened across the bay area. tomorrow is the only debate scheduled in this year's gubernatorial race. running against governor newsom is state senator from up north brian dahle. the republican state senator from redding says his family has been in california for 92 years. his grandfather was a world war i veteran and came to the states during the great depression. >> he says he wants to give california voters an option and he wants to focus on issues in california while newsom has his sights set on florida.

>> he wants to debate ron desantis because he wants, he doesn't want to talk about california but we do have a debate and i'm looking forward to talking about california. i know he will want to talk about everybody else in other states but i want to make sure we talk about california. >> the solitary debate will not be on television. it will be on radio. political experts say that is because newsom has such a big lead in the polls that it doesn't gain him anything to debate issues and doesn't want to make any slipups in front of a big audience. not that his opponent has much of a chance. >> brian dahle would be a strong candidate if it was 1986: but it is 2022. the republican party is in dire straits statewide. >> uc berkeley and la times poll last month showed newsom with an overwhelming lead. 53 to 32%. news from the southern border. officials have seen the highest number of illegal

remember back to the beginning of this week, it was unseasonably warm. and then, it was fairly cool. it's the roller coaster of life. now we are in store for strong winds and potential w■ild ire anger in the new state winter forecast shows this whip last weather continuing. >> reporter: california weather works in extremes. a prediction 90 days in the future shows drought conditions in the central valley, but rain and snow in the sierra. according

to experts, weather whiplash is common. >> you have to be prepared for extreme events. >> reporter: craig schumacher says they released their outlook for california. they predict precipitation levels will be below normal in the central valley area and through southern california. but why? >> la niña is a cooling of the equatorial waters. >> reporter: la niña is a drier system that moves from western canada down through northern california. and it is headed for farmers. diamond bee company primarily farms peaches and almonds. they are concerned about the agency's stark prediction. no rain means less profit for growers. >> you have to assess laying people off. that will be a

larger issue. people have walked away from those orchards already. next year it is only going to get worse without this. without rainfall. >> here in the bay area, wind advisory from the national weather service expired a short time ago as we are dealing with strong winds all weekend long. still, areas in napa and sonoma counties might lose power. those are just a small portion of the more than a dozen counties on pg&e's watch list with some 6,000 customers across the entire watch region who could be affected. this of course is pg&e's way of trying to prevent wild fires from downed lines. >> to keep people safe for the peak of the storm. >> it is obviously a real concern for us. >> if shut-offs happen, it would be overnight sunday into monday. roughly 100 customers there would be impacted. now let's get a check of your first alert forecast. brian is here

with a look at how much this wind is going to continue throughout the weekend. >> not much. >> not much. okay. >> because the winds are going to be dying down by the time we get to sunday evening, monday morning. still, it will be a fairly breezy day again tomorrow. much like what we had today. with winds from 15 to 30 alodge the shoreline. right now, the numbers are back down into the 50s under mostly clear skies outside of the northwesterlies. it is fairly dry direction for winds. it has swept out the marine layer and kept the coast a little bit warmer. some places warmed up as much as nine degrees like santa rosa. so warmed up a bit. but, at nighttime, numbers are now falling. under the clear skies, we lose more heat. so it is actually cooler in the nighttime hours. four degrees cooler in hayward and two degrees warmer in santa rosa. high pressure combined with low pressure that is off the baja peninsula is creating this northwesterly flow. as a result, the clear skies, the windy conditions, rain eventually for the pacific northwest but not for us. the

northwesterly winds all weekend long will finally begin to abate on monday. you can see, they are fired up pretty good. tomorrow afternoon, especially along the shoreline, bodega bay, mid 30s . santa rosa, 19 mile-per-hour winds. windy in the east bay. mid 20s . you'll feel it. as the day turns tonight, the winds abate. and we'll look for thing to generally settle out a little bit as we get into monday. in the meantime, we are off to a breezy sunday morning start. highs near 70 degrees and it will be mainly dry weather through the rest of the week so not bad at all. overnight lows tonight, winds are keeping us mild. temperatures will bottom out where they are now in the mid 50s . not going to get much cooler. forecast highs for tomorrow. we will be in the upper 60s for the south bay. a very pleasant day. 68 degrees on university avenue in palo alto. down in morgan hill, 68 as well. 67 at hayward. out in the east bay it will be nice. plenty of sunshine. it will be a breezy afternoon. numbers will be in the low 70ed. doesn't get much better than

that as we head into late october. and in the north bay, nice and warm in santa rosa. 72 degrees. it will be 74 in novato. the warmest reading of everybody is in novato. 67 at napa. 68 ukiah. 71 in clear lake. as we look ahead, there is not much. a little wrinkle coming through the atmosphere. might produce a little drizzle but that's it. the numbers come down for tuesday and wednesdays. we'll get a few more clouds but then it clears out and we get more sunshine as we get into the latter half of the week. if we look at it as a whole, inland east bay, stays in the 70s all week long. a few more clouds on tuesday. coastline will remain in the 60s and it remains pretty nice. that's weather for sports. i wonder if there is somebody here who can do sports? >> well i'll get to that in a moment. but the taste of denmark bakery has been an institution nearly a century. it is closing its doors after

defense. stanford trailed 14-6 at the half. but the cardinal would continue to fight on this one. stanford driving tanner mckey, finds bryson tremaine for stanford. then joshua hits the 36-yard field goal. fourth quarter, stanford looking to take the lead. mckey on third down. he hit john humphreys for the clutch reception to move the sticks. that would lead to another field goal. stanford wins 15-14 by playing some pretty good defense. chip kelly back in his old stomping grounds. second quarter, game tied at 10. beau nix from the pistol. throws an absolute dime to troy franklin. 49 yards for the touchdown. oregon's offense got rolling

from there. oregon knocking on the door. franklin again. franklin at 182 receiving yards. two touchdowns, the ducks win, 45-30. and, here is an update on christian mccaffrey's status for sunday. he is expected to make his 49ers debut against the chiefs. according to reports from espn, kyle shanahan has a package of plays. the padres in a critical game four against the phillies and it is not the way the sharks hope to start their season. they are looking to string a couple of wins together as they near the end of their road trip.

the sharks will wrap up their road trip sunday against the flyers but they are trying to string together some wins before heading back home. sharks fans in new jersey for the third stop of san jose's road trip. second period, the devils on the power play. dawson mercer stays with it in front. of the net to give new jersey a 2-0 lead. the sharks had their chance to tie it.

couldn't get one past makenzie blackwood. the devils win 2-1. san jose now 1-6 to start the season. former athletic shawn maniah was looking to help the padres beat the phillies. fifth inning, bryce harper hits a line drive, the runner would score all the way from first. to give the phillies the lead. they would never look back. sixth inning, the phillies up two. and, kyle schwarber hits an absolute monster home run to center. the phillies win 10-6. and they are now only one win away from reaching the world series. to the other game. aaron judge and the yankees were looking to avoid going down 3-0 to the astros in the alcs. fourth inning, the yankees down 2-30. judge strikes out swinging. the yankees strike out 11 times in this game. sixth inning, christian vasquez hits a single to left. two runs score. the astros win 5-0. and they take a commanding 3-0 lead in the series.

it is filipino american history month. today, san francisco's filipino cultural district saw the return of its undiscovered creative market. the market features a big collection of emerging artists and merchants from the filipino community and this year, it takes place at a new open space near fifth and mission. there are local artisans, food vendors and live music.
