newsom agreed to. kpix 5 betty yu has the details. >> you're asking for four more years. do you commit to serving all four? >> yes. i have barely been out of state. i've been out of state for a few hours to take on their party and their leader of the party, donald trump, who is a passionate supporter of. what they're doing in democracy, and how they're banning books. >> reporter: during the hour long debate, governor gavin newsom dismissed speculation that he's focused on the presidential run. he's barely campaigned at home this year. but has spent money on ads in florida and texas, which are antiabortion states. newsom called out senator brian daly, a farmer from northern california who owns a trucking business, for not standing up it big oil. daly blamed newsom's policies for high gas prices. >> i know your friends, the people you run with, can't afford to live in california. but the everyday hard working middle class californian governor is suffering from the

policies you put forward. at the same time we have no water, we have no electricity, we have no plan. there is no plan, just throw money at it. >> reporter: presubmitted questions from voters focuses on homelessness. >> what are your impressions on the streets here in san francisco, and what would you do beyond to declare a state of emergency? >> i love san francisco. i used to bring my sons down here before we had my daughter because there is so much awesome culture, but i don't anymore. i don't feel safe. i want to help these people get off the streets and drive crime down in california. >> reporter: newsom said he was proud of california's economic growth and low employment rate. >> i'm glad we're providing some $9.5 billion. over three billion has gone out. billions more will be going out through the end of the year to offset the rising costs of inflation,

not just gas in california. >> reporter: it in san francisco betty yu kpix 5. >> tomorrow daly says he is planning to drive the truck across the state and hold rallies to try to get out to vote until election day. >> where do they stand with voters? let's take a look at the polls. the polls were released at the end of august. support of 52% of the voters while only 25% said they would support senator daly. in that same poll, 52% of the voters said the state is heading in the wrong direction. >> regards to voters here in the bay area, we caught up with some as they were turning their ballots to see why they were so eager to vote. >> i think the problem session one for the woman's right to choose is very important to vote on. and i also care about the gambling initiatives. >> i wanted to get the property taxes down. we have a real big

homeless problem here. they need to do something about it. >> the state university hosted a mayoral form tonight, going to ask questions to the two candidates running for mayor. cindy chavez and san jose city council member omicveof adess the neighborho in ime pre concerns when it comes to developing affordable housing. >> we have a lot of residents in our community who have seen them coming into the community, robust and helpful. it shouldn't be the city communicating, but the neighborhood cities who have had the experience talking to the leaders about how they made it work. >> what people want to know and we are responsible or should be responsible for making some commitments around is what are we going to do to make this an improvement to your neighborhood to make it better, not worse off as a result? that's really what i'm trying

to focus on. what are the benefits to help bring forward? >> the recent polls have been showing mixed results. some experts are expecting the tight race in november. and now to elections nationally. democrats are on their legislative accomplishments. republicans mostly on the economy and crime. votes are being cast in many states across the country. >> reporter: on face the nation today, speaker of the house, nancy pelosi, says the results will be decided in the last minutes of the race. >> i see very clearly the ownership of the ground is with us. >> reporter: the latest battleground poll has the likely going to the republicans, the senate at a 50/50 split. >> i'm worried about the voter turnout among young people and working people who will be

voting democratic. >> they saw the summer following the overturn of roe v. wade has faded. trying to focus on issues like crime, immigration, and the economy. >> this is an economic and health crisis. >> reporter: in several key races, republican candidates have openly questioned the results of the 2020 election. >> i think trump won in 2020. >> reporter: warning the election deniers are a thread to democracy. >> no one of any party should be voting for people who are election workers. >> i ran twice and won twice. >> reporter: but former president trump repeated his usual false claims, then teased another run. >> in order to make our country successful, safe, glorious again, i will probably have to do it again. >> reporter: and president biden said in an interview this

weekend, he intends to run again in 2024, but won't make that decision officially until after the elections. >> and we do want to remind you, tomorrow is the last day to register to vote in the election. applications must be postmarked by then. early voting is open across the bay area. a big side show with a few hundred spectators in two bay area cities overnight. but each ended very differently. kpix 5 da lin shows us how the oakland and vallejo police departments had very different responses. >> reporter: neighbors say they broke up the side show pretty quickly. police watched the side show from a distance and did nothing. call it triple team action, three cars spinning donuts, people hanging out the passenger side window. >> there's too many chances of

people getting hurt. >> spinning, making a lot of noise. it happened at the intersection of columbus parkway and georgia street around 10:40 on saturday night. >> if one of them loses control, it will kill at least four, five people. >> reporter: neighbors say police showed up in 10 minutes. police tell us they arrested four people for spectating, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle. officers say they towed at least one car to place on a 30-day impound. this is a surveillance footage showing people leaving and driving away from police while neighbors are happy with the quick response. they want police to impound more cars and ticket more people. >> anger, frustration. just exhaustion. we're tired of this. >> reporter: once vallejo police broke up the side show, it appears some people went to the other cities including

oakland. this show took over 90th avenue. around 2:15 on sunday morning. someone fired a gun into the air. many neighbors say they slept through all of it. they're used to it. they feel helpless. >> it happens in a weekly basis. i mean it's to the point of where we don't call the police anymore. >> reporter: the police were there. two cop cars monitoring the side show from a block away. >> frustrated. we need more people. the police department need support of the city leaders. >> reporter: they blame the city policies for the lack of consequences. but the police department in the past said for safety reasons, they would try to record the license plates and go after the drivers at a later time. >> i can understand those people in oakland. i feel the same frustration. i'm worried. i'm worried because if they allow them to keep doing this, it is not going to get any better, but worse. >> reporter: police say no

pg&e is reducing the size of some of their planned power outages tonight. as of this afternoon, the power will remain on for close to 6,000 customers who were told they would have their power shut off. that included customers where they said their meteorologists are monitoring the situation and that some shutoffs are still possible, but they are mainly for customers in the central valley. if they are shut off, they will send you a notification. the first snow of the season is here. the uc berkeley sierra snow lab recorded snow that started yesterday at noon. this morning the lab said they received about 1.4 inches of snow in the last 24 hours. it all fell yesterday afternoon, but the cold temperatures, they

kept it around overnight. brian? >> it's chilly out there. i don't know if you have been cold out there, as clear skies, it means all the heat we generated during the daytime goes right back out into space. and low 70s in the warmer spots, but only 61 degrees at half moon bay and there will be frost on the pumpkin tonight or could be. it will get cooler with the frost advisories posted in the bay area. but where you see it colored in blue will feel like that with the lows in the mid-30s. the frost advisory right through tomorrow morning. in the north bay, you'll notice the lower elevations are the ones susceptible to this. in the wind sheltered interior valleys, not so much the higher population right along the bay shoreline. inland on the

corridor, it will be cool tonight. lows in the mid-30s. this will hold true out in the discovery bay at the antioch region as well. fairfield down to 44. 43 in vallejo. napa is just a degree above freezing. that means frost. santa rosa at 35 degrees. in the south bay, not so bad, but still the numbers tonight will be the first real chill, real bite in the air as we head into the overnight hours. but you know, it is very dry up top. slightly elevated fire weathers in the higher elevations and the stronger winds. tomorrow is the battle between the high. out in the eastern pacific with the low pressure off of san diego, finally begins to relax. the temperatures tomorrow will be plenty warm in the 70s. the futurecast will show there's

not much in the way that it will rain up in seattle tomorrow. a wet week for them. by the time they get down, it just knocks the breath out of them. the few high clouds by tuesday morning. and another system will come down, a little bit of rain, that's it. we will be looking for a pleasant week ahead. it'll cool down as we would head into next weekend. the same for the east bay. the numbers mostly in the 70s tomorrow. another couple of fairly warm days even as we would get fairly cool nights. everybody closed down in terms of any chances of rain, it doesn't look like it at least for a week. >> thank you so much, brian. coming up, the musical with a timeless message. on the
