carjackingnd oot t. the in alameda . what investigators have learned about a car dug up behind a home. khargiv a full wrap-up of the gubernatorial debate as we head into the final two weeks before midterms let's start out in alameda county where a police chase ended up with officer shooting and killing a man after a traffic stop and then an attempted carjacking. >> it was a wild morning meeting not only to the death o the suspect and an officer bein injured. also clues in a earlier rob ring in emeryville. a disturbing scene it 10:00 this morning. a man showed up t his exes home causing an

argument. neighbors were able t get him out of the apartment. witnesses say he took out a gun and began shooting randomly. h was still shooting as he got into his car and drove off. officers found and chased him a he got on the 580 eastbound. he got off on the eden canyon offramp. they performed a p.i.t maneuver causing his car to lose control. the suspect got out and ran off. police say he attempted to carjack another car at gunpoint. he died at the hospital. officers say the suspect was driving unusually slow during the pursuit . >> as we pick up the vehicle an began to follow what, he is traveling at a low rate of spee which is concerning. officers are concerned that is she tryin to lead us into an ambush or attack .

>> investigators say an officer was hurt while trying to stop the suspect. an officers leg wa pinned to the door after the suspect ran the car into the cruiser. that officer is expected to be okay. the same suspect tried to carjack a separate car in emeryville earlier this morning. they have not released any other details on that incident yet. kpix5 new details found buried in the backyard of a home. radar was used to examine the scene. it was a long stockbridge avenue. they say they did not find anything unusual or suspicious. they did not er man re onrdws up that mercedes. and palo alto police reported the car stolen three decades ago investigator believed that the cars are ther instead . officials say the car

we want to get to a developing story from san francisco. a car struck and killed an elderly pedestrian at 24th avenue and santiago . the car also struck and injured another pedestrian and also had several other cars. police say the driver remained on the scene. a debate is raging over how to renovate a predominately african american housing development. as john ramose explains, the residents have a plan that would allow the community to control their own

destiny. >> reporter: the golden gate village was a national model fo government housing serving the african american community transported to the area as ship builders during world war ii. he has lived here for more than 40 years . >> it started about 2008 or 200 when they started neglecting th property. >> reporter: weather from neglect or just age, the golden gate village housing project ha fallen into disrepair and needs a massive renovation that will cost tens of billions of dollars. she says that the county wants to demolish the ol concrete towers and rebuild the housing complex from scratch. many fear that would price blac renters out of the area. the residents came up with a different idea. >> our plan is a limited

acquitting housing co-op. >> reporter: the village for transfer to a community land trust that would put the residence and control of the property. it would give renters something that most never dreamed of, a chance at home ownership. most of the resident do not have the income for a traditional purchase but they could invest what they are currently paying for rent into equity share of the property. they would then get the appreciation of whatever their stake was if they should leave even though it is someone else' property e has taken good care of her apartment and she thinks this would encourage others to do the same pick >> when it belongs to you, you take better care of it. plays everyone from the government to the residents themselves have contributed to the condition of the complex. the hope is that giving people a sense of ownership will become a sense o pride. john ramose, kpix5. a tough weekend for the
