an intense battle to claim the title of oakland's next mayor. two candidates who want the job. token plus a fall at facebook's parent company. what is sending meta plunging ? let's begin with meta , company parent of facebook. they appeared to be losing steam. kpix 5's anne makovec has more. >> meta has lost about a quarter of its value today . they are based in menlo park they are reporting a second straight quarter of revenue decline. the issues, and sales are falling, and stiff competition from tiktok. meta has also been all-in on virtual reality, the so-called meta-verse. this could be an indication that future bet is a flop. let's look at some of the ugly numbers today. meta stock fell 24.5%. now under $98 per share, that is its lowest level in nearly 4 years.

meta 's market value sink to $268 billion. that is down from more than $1 trillion in september, last year. overall, stocks were mixed today, the dow gaining , and the nasdaq dropping, and the s&p 500 also falling . the markets did get some encouraging news, though, as the government reported the u.s. economy returned to growth last quarter, expanding, 2.6%, reed. >> that is definitely one to watch. broken the other big story today, about twitter, tomorrow is the deadline for elon musk to close his $44 billion deal to buy the san francisco-based company. he wants to take it private. he posted a message to advertisers saying he's making the move because he believes it's important to the future of civilization, those are his words, to have a common digital town square. he added it is not for it to become a free-for-all where anyone can say anything

without consequence. to san jose where police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck an elderly woman who was pushing a stroller with a 3-year-old on the inside. we want to let you know they are ed to be okay, but this might be the cr they enter road, and all of a sudden a car blows through, causing the toddler to hit his head on the pavement. thankfully they both are going to recover. but then look close, these are surveillance images, and your opportunity to give that tip to police to get this person off the streets, keep an eye out for a dark, gray, four-door hatchback. it will likely have damage to the front driver side or recently repaired damage to that side of the car .3 suspects are meanwhile under arrest after a shooting at uc berkeley. near telegraph and durrant, gunfire erupted. one

died, three were injured. it started after suspects approached a group of men and started a fight. police took those suspects and recovered several firearms, including ghost guns, which means guns without serial numbers. it makes it hard to trace them. today, family and friends held a funeral for two brothers when gunfire erupted at a birthday party. the shooting happened, october 1st, near the oakland-emory border. neighbors there say about 30-40 teens attended the party. what started as a commotion turned out into an all-out fight. the brothers, 17-year-old jazz garcia, 15-year-old angel garcia, described as nice, caring, and always helpful. >> remember at secret santa, he had me, and there was a price limit, he completely ignored it to give me a nice gift. and i thought that was a reallynisture. and he did that for everyone, all of his friends, and all of his classmates. >> such a loss in our

word, exceptional. this is the new map, and extreme drought, the second-worst category, has expanded significantly to include more of solano county, napa county, sonoma county, and will look better. however there is good news, we have rain chances and the forecast for tonight, clear skies, cool once again, even chilly reganize its is passing clouds through the weekend, but we are dry on halloween, should remain dry for trick-or-treating. tuesday and continued wednesday, maybe into thursday. it won't be a lot of rain but we will take what we can get. you will have to wait for it. we will see an increase in the cloud color , some clouds farther up in the atmosphere for the rest of the bay, that will skew through. we will see more sun than clouds, and on sunday, any moisture this week and will miss us to the north.

it looks like a nice weekend before halloween. a lot of stuff going on the bay area this weekend. but we are waiting on rain chances, which should arrive tuesday, adding up in the outlook center, one of the branches of noah, and we are talking about a 10th of an inch of rain or so. will be in more densely populated parts of the bay area but some parts of the north bay, along the coast, and into the east bay hills, could pick up more than a quarter of an inch of rain. it dryness of the vegetation around the bay area. right now from looking outside, seeing clear skies as we loarth ba 70s, inland. those numbers will drop off early tomorrow morning. cold spots reaching about 5 degrees below average, we can handle that. low to mid 60s around the
