into how and why this happened. new arrests at a well-known oakland . day one at the helm for elon musk and twitter and what's next. good afternoon, i'm ryan yamamoto. we begin with the attack on the pelosi home. speaker pelosi was in washington, d.c. at the time, and she is expected to land back in the bay area any minute now. kpix 5's wilson walker is live now with the details. >> reporter: this block in pacific heights has been closed off all day by police. the bomb squad was here for a little while. they called this an ongoing investigation. it has been taken over by capitol police and the fbi. >> at approximately 2:27 this morning san francisco police officers were dispatched to the residence of's beaker nancy pelosi regarding an a priority

well-being check. >> it was a priority call when the first two officers arrived, they say they found 82-year-old paul pelosi struggling with an intruder. >> there was one hammer involved. there was an altercation, and mr. pelosi and david depape were struggling . i do not know whose hammer it was. >> police have not said much more other than the suspect was the pacific lay looking for the speaker of the house. >> the suspect has been identified as david depape. motive is still being determined. david depape will be booked on the following charges. attempted homicide , assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, burglary, and several other additional felonies. >> i think what happened is terrifying. you know, that someone would rake into a private home , and it was clta

speaker pelosi, from what i've read and heard the salient assailant was very much looking for her. >> word of the morning attack has come as an unsettling shock. >> i walked past their house on occasion and have seen various protests over time, but this was a little bit of a surprise when my phone blew up this morning, saying that paul was attacked by a hammer. >> there was no security at the home here this morning . the speaker, out of town. she has that capitol police detail, they would have been here , had she been here, in case someone had approached the home, ryan. >> thank you very much, wilson. we know paul pelosi is being treated for injuries at san francisco general hospital, where we find kpix 5's sean

chitnis with more. >> reporter: it appears to be a security detail going in and out of this entrance throughout the day.here's the latest on what we have on paul pelosi's condition. as of this afternoon we are told he is expected to make a full recovery , but the medical team is being cautious with that outlook. he is 82. we were told he was hit several times in the head with a hammer, one blow was considered a significant hit. he is now out of surgery. they will have to repair a skull fracture as well as treat some serious injuries to his right arm and hands. back out here live we are watching to see as the situation changes, and that security detail, coming in and out of this location. we are told the secret service is already here, and ryan, as you mentioned, speaker pelosi was expected to arrive around this time. it's unclear if she will enter through this entrance or another. we will monitor the

situation and keep you updated, ryan.back to you. >> stay with kpix 5 and cbs news bay area for continuing coverage. we will have more on the suspect in this attack. we are also learning new arrests and details in a murder. >> her longtime boyfriend is one of two people arrested in the killing of lillie hsu. this is a guy who sang at her funeral. she was shot to death in august and what people are calling a murder for hire this new video shows a man identified a 73-year-old peter nelson chia. chia is her long-time boyfriend booked on suspicion of murder with a special circumstance of financial gain. 35-year-old hashim hasan was also arrested. it was broad

daylight on a sunday afternoon, she pulled into a parking spot when the shooter pulled up inside her, demanded her purse and then shot her before taking off. surveillance video also revealed the shooter had apparently been lying in wait nearby for more than half an hour before the shooting. when this happened there was a lot of fear in the community that this was a racially motivated attacks. today the police chief cleared that up. expect this is not a case about race. this is a case about greed. some tried to use this way to divide our community. my hope is that we can come together and support the family and the community as we have all experienced this tragedy. >> both murder suspects are expected in court either monday or tuesday, and we will keep our eye on this case as it goes forward, ryan. more questions on how elon

musk will reshape twitter now that he is in charge. here is more. >> after a months long battle, after carrying a sink into twitter's san francisco headquarters, must begin cleaning house, reportedly ousting several top executives. in a tweet, the tesla's basic ceo added chief twit to his list of titles. >> i think he's clear that he is going to take it in a different direction. >> so far, musk, a local advocate of free speech has shared few specifics on how he plans to run twitter and structure its content policy. >> if what he's talking about is getting rid of content moderation that is not going to be a forum for discourse, for persuasion, for actual give and take. it is going to be the scape that he described. >> content moderation with no

to be fun. >> with the red and gold report, i'm charlie walter. >> we will have more on sunday's matchup tonight at 7:30 on kpix 5 and streaming on cbs news bay area. time for look at the forecast was chief meteorologist paul heggen . the parents and kids all want to know about monday even though it's friday. >> temperatures will be cooler on the weekend but a hint of rain chances are holding off until after halloween, after trick or treating. right now, passing clouds, but pleasant temperatures to finish the work week. running an average of 4-6 degrees below average. temperatures should warm up a little bit more. these clouds are not squeezing out any moisture over the bay area, and that next rain chance is farther down the line. but getting a little closer and rain chances look favorable,

especially tuesday into tuesday night with the potential for a few lingering showers on wednesday. we are talking about lower than a 50-50 chance of rain, but it's been consistent in the long-range data. it's been hanging onto the same timeframe, and it has been consistent. a few hundredths of an inch to may be over a 10th of an inch of rain the most likely scenario for most of the bay area if it happens at all. it's the fourth or fifth day of the seven-day forecast. got to get my math right. right now there is not cloud cover that's been filtering sunshine all day. only 57 in san francisco, 63 in oakland, inland temperatures right around 70 degrees. it's pleasant. temperatures will cool off if you are heading to the halloween haunt on the jfk promenade, we will be hovering in the 50s for the next few hours. we will drop down to the 30s and some of the valleys, northbay, inland, otherwise 40s, inland, with upper 40s along the bay and coast. tomorrow, within normal

ranges, still slightly warmer than today, still maybe 1-3 degrees below average. upper 60s down the peninsula and around the south end of the bay with low 70s and the santa clara valley including 70 degrees in san jose. temperatures the law in the low 70s from antioch to brentwood. mid 60s , not bad for mid-october. farther and farther inland, even a few spots around's windsor, similar temperatures again on sunday. maybe a degree or two warmer in the. if you are heading to the pumpkin patch in the former, all sorts of halloween festivities there.temperatures will reach the low 70s tomorrow, mid-70s on sunday.halloween is looking dry, just a couple degrees cooler for the start of the next workweek. but significantly cooler once that
