>> reporter: the san jose police officer's association said some 911 calls were left unanswered and one of them turned into a homicide. the department held over the entire swing shift until 4:00 in the morning instead of the normal 1:00 a.m. off time meaning that the officers worked more than 16 hours and why didn't the department call for help? >> community leaders and mayors are saying that staffing is fine and vacancy rates are fine and all is well. and yet tell that to the homicide victim's family who waited two hours for a response. they need to know why we were not there when they needed us. >> reporter: here is a couple of incidents, madera avenue in north san jose yesterday morning, a man who was shot to death, and the other shooting

happened near mckinley elementary late on saturday night >> when two men were taken to the hospital. one man died. the other in stable condition. and police responded to a double stabbing over the weekend on first street and one person is in critical condition. the san jose police department said it should not conclude that the amount of calls required assistance from an ally agency and they have more than 100 officers handling and assists all of the incidents including that the patrol officers did an exceptional job this weekend. >> thank you, anne. and a retirement announcement from santa clara county sheriff laurie smith. that is now, right now, and she is currently waiting for a verdict in her corruption trial. she was not running for re-election, and voters will decide next week. she could be replaced if the board of

with tv ads and the mayor's race that makes frontlines on the front page and sports page. the 49ers have pumped hundreds of thousands of doll intoors a committee backing anthony becker, and sometimes, the miami dolphins' owner who owns the related company which is building an $8 billion mixed -use development in clara next to levi stadium is backing the incumbent mayor lisa gilmore. they are duking it out over power and influence in santa clara while the two candidates are duking it out sitting side by side at local debates. both candidates were born and raised in santa clara, but similarities end there. becker is an information technology worker and a renter and would be the first openly lgbtq+ mayor in the city's history. >> i saw a broken system in

santa clara, just the same people over and over again. >> reporter: becker's more cooperative stance with the 49ers and management of levi stadium was a factor in the team's financial support but he is facing accusations that his working relationship with york and the niners are too cozy. >> i think the niners are behind my campaign. i think mayor gilmore destroyed our city. >> reporter: lisa gilmore has been mayor since 2018, a self-described soccer mom of three and one of the early supporters of measure j that allows santa clara to build levi stadium. >> i started great things in the city and wanted to continue showcasing the wonderful city that santa clara is. >> reporter: gilmore's relationship with the 49ers soured over the financial obligations and how late musical concerts could run. but

holding a news conference about the ball pelosi subject. >> mr. pelosi attempted to gain control by holding a portion of the hammer. the defendant then pulled the hammer away from mr. pelosi and violently struck him on the top of his head. the police then immediately apprehended the defend. what we also have learned is that the defendant brought to the location of the pelosi residence a second hammer as well as zip ties, rope, and a roll of tape. what is clear based on the evidence we have thus far is this house and the speaker herself were specifically targets of the defend. as for next steps, the defendant is expected to be arraigned tomorrow afternoon. my office will be filing a motion to detain him without

bail, and that is based on what is obvious and severe public safety risks that the defendant vience s po sesato has no place in this city and we will work vigorously to hold the defendant accountable. one last thing that i want to say today is that as leaders and as citizens, it is incumbent upon us all to watch the work we say and turn down the volume of our political rhetoric. we should be able to all engage in passionate political discourse and remain respectful to one another. violence certainly has no place in san francisco or in politics. thank you. >> thank you. and now we'll open up for some questions.

of the day, and this is when the majority of us will notice the rain, late morning and early afternoon, and by the time we get to 4:00 in the afternoon, most of the rain is gone but there is a chance for a scattered shower or two into wednesday but it doesn't look likely but a small chance. if you look at the rainfall totals, you can see this is not a lot but enough that it will impact the roads, and things will get wet, and you will get rained on tomorrow, a quarter of an inch. it's not a soaker but it's not a light sprinkle. a quarter of an inch is enough that we could have an impact on the roads, and plan on giving yourself extra time. this is a better snow producer for the sierra with a foot of new snow, and there is a winter storm warning, slow travel on 80 and 50, so be aware of that. morning lows tomorrow, low 50s and daytime highs will warm up to the low 60s. those are the highs. didn't see much change
