the 24-year-old woman disappeared on january 26 after visiting her ex-boyfriend's house. wed a person found partial remains in plymouth about 40 miles southeast of sacramento. 80 miles from oak le. a dentist specialist confirmed it was alexis. her remans could have been scattered in different places. and with curtis jones, where he traveled after she disappeared. jones died in a shootout with police in washington when they tried to arrest him. gabe's parents had been pleading for help since she disappeared. here is what gabe's father told us back in august.

learning about chromosomes in phoenix. >> the cause of the crash under investigation. our other top story tonight. twitter layoffs came fast and almost as quickly as came a class action legal cause. employees have been flooding twitter with reaction. now the city tells us 784 of them at san francisco's offices will be officially terminated on january 4. a lot of workers found out when they were suddenly let go. >> i was found that my laptop was remotely accessed. gmail revoked. >> elon musk responding to all of this on his own platform tweeting, "unfortunately there's no choice when the company is losing over $4 million a day. everyone ." well betty yu talked to an employment attorney about whether these layoffs were, in fact, legal. betty? >> reporter: he says it still remains to be seen. he said it is unusual to see a lawsuit

this early in the termination process. workers wait to make sure the severance pay was available before making moves. some locked out of company accounts. an indication they would soon be formerly terminated. >> it's a little premature because we don't know yet what the employer is going to do. >> reporter: a partner who specializes in labor and employment at dwayne morris. >> my suspicion in this case is that twitter's lawyers, they will put severance back together that will comply with the act and pay these people a minimum of 60 days plus all the benefits. >> reporter: now in total 220 is eliminating 3,700 jobs or half of the total work force.

to u cut costs. >> the unemployment rate in san francisco isn't even at 3%. there are so many opportunities to work san francisco in various capacities. >> reporter: despite the last two years, chris staying positive. >> i believe san francisco will always come back. >> reporter: elon musk says the laid off workers will get three months of severance. outside of twitter i'm da lin, kpix 5. okay, so paul is here now. it feels like this is the most i've talked about rain since i've moved back to san francisco here. >> yeah, it was initially a dry end to the rainy season. to maybe we could get into a normal rainy season. the rain is dropping towards us. still up to the north right now. it's been just soaking the pacific northwest for the past 24, 36 hours. but this will drop steadily in for the north as we head through the day tomorrow. a dry start across the bay area. but the showers are moving into the north bay already as early as lunchtime. with the peak of the rain arriving y afternoon. tapering off quickly. this will move through rapidly. it won't amount to a whole lot. the best chance for

rain around san francisco and oakland will occur from mid to late afternoon and the early evening hours. the farther south you ago into the santa clara valley and the oakland hills into the inland parts of the east bay is where the rain chances will be lighter. maybe a few hundredths of an inch of rain in those locations. rain chances will taper off tomorrow night into early sunday. good news for the golden gate half marathon. partly cloudy skies as the race starts at 6:50 on sunday morning. temperatures just about 50 degrees, which is nice running actually. we will have much more rain in the forecast once sunday night rolls around. we'll talk about that in a few minutes. >> thank you so much, paul. the man accused of attacking paul pelosi waived his court appearance today. next month the hearing will decide if david will stand trial. it's unclear yet if he will claim insanity. today in our first public comment since the attack, house speaker nancy pelosi rallying people to vote in the high

okay, the man of the hour, paul higgins. enter we have quite a bit to talk about. that's san jose. it's cloudy out there. but we are actually talking about rain again this weekend? >> i know. not much over the weekend. it won't be a complete washout if you have any outdoor plans on saturday morning. it's looking okay. the outdoor plans on sunday is looking okay. sunday afternoon and evening, be flexible. have an indoor alternative. take a look at the big picture perspective. the wet weather is dropping -- about 12 hours from now. take a look at futurecast and those showers beginning to move in. by late morning and really for lunchtime for the rain to hit the ground. dropping by the golden gate about mid afternoon. while the activity will be scattered, not everybody is guaranteed to get rain with this. it's a nice little rainmaker, maybe a tenth of an inch or so. moving through quick and largely, seeing the showers quiet down through the evening. the last of the sprinkles quieting down by midnight. but then break

into the action will keep host. the weather is looking mostly favorable. a few showers trying to sneak in before the sun goes down. more likely the heavier rain will hold off until late evening, overnight. this will be more widespread. more substantial, not enough to cause any flooding problems. just beneficial rain for the bay area. that moves off to the east, so we're back into an off and on commute with showers continuing through the rest of monday, likely in place for the evening commute as well. we're not done. likely on tuesday, that'll taper off the linger showers on wednesday. then we'll dry out as we head towards the end of the workweek. maybe a chance for showers by next friday, but that's really far down the line. the total chance for rain about an inch or so. and it returns to purple. at least 1.5 inches of rain. some of the highest spots could pick up to 3 to 7 inches of rain. two to three feet of snow and the high

sierra, at least one foot within the winter storm warning that goes into effect on sunday afternoon. it continues through early on wednesday. right now it's not rain, it's just fog and plenty of it. temperatures in the low to mid-50s. those numbers won't change a whole lot the rest of the night. upper 40s and the low 50s to start the day on saturday. and high temperatures before the rain arrives, only around 60 north of the golden gate. everybody else in the low to mid-60s along the coast where the temperatures will reach the upper 50s. a few degrees below average, but the warmest weather we're going to see for a while. as the rain chances go up, the temperatures go down. it will be rather raw out there on monday and tuesday. wet and cool with the highs in the 50s. again monday and tuesday definitely the wettest days of the seven-day forecast. and we will dry out on wednesday and thursday. temperatures don't warm up a whole lot. then there's another chance for showers in the forecast by the end of next week. just a chance at this point.

with crime surging in oakland, the candidates for alameda county district attorney are laying out their plans to address that important issue. kpix 5 jocelyn moran introduces us to them and an oakland resident who knowses all too well what kind of challenges await. >> are you going to class? >> yeah. >> okay, come on. >> reporter: sasha long is a school based international specialist in oakland. she also works with youth alive to help kids who are on probation out of juvenile. >> i help them stay on track, create life goals, and obtain those life goals. >> reporter: she foes firsthand what kids are going through. >> it's really sad to me. i also lost my mother to gun violence at the age of 2. and because they experienced death and loss at an early age, they don't realize the pain and hurt they're going through. >> reporter: she can relate to them and wants others to

understand them too. >> our youth needs healing. our youth need funding to stop the violence that's happening around us. our youth needs boundary and love. >> reporter: terry wiley and pamela price are running for alameda district attorney. curbing crime is top of mind. >> taylor wiley running for district attorney. hope i can count on your support. >> reporter: wiley is the alameda county chief assistant district attorney. he's got the experience. he's been working in the d.a.'s office for more than 30 years. he's been talking about getting to the root problems. he says it starts with education and schools. >> when you cannot read, you're not at a reading level in the third grade. then one, there is a high percentage of those individuals who do not graduate from high school. and those that do not graduate from high school many times find themselves in the criminal justice system. >> reporter: wiley says he will work with oakland unified to try to close those disparities.

when it comes to serious and violence crime that's happening now, the focus on repeat offenders. he prides himself on having empathy. >> i'm the youngest of 12 kids. my father passed when i was 7. so you know, i'm a product of, you know, a product of the american dream. i came from where there were probably not great expectations, coming from a single parent household due to the passing of my father. >> reporter: pamela price prides herself in bringing a new perspective, a fresh voice, who has been a part of the community. >> i'm a former foster kid. i came through the juvenile justice and the foster care system. i have never forgotten from where i came. >> i'm a survivor of domestic violence and sexual assault. and those things you learn. when you survive, you learn. >> reporter: she's a civil rights attorney casting herself
